The use of methylene blue and toluidine blue in the photodynamic treatment of onychomycosis at an ambulatory clinic in São Paulo, Brazil is reported. Local application and illumination of infected nails produced a response in 53 of 62 patients, without any pain or burning associated with the therapy.

This work investigated the degradation and detoxification of acetochlor in a soil amended with an organic fertilizer or sodium thiosulfate (STS). Over an incubation period of 28 d, the residual acetochlor was measured, soil dehydrogenase activity was determined, and major degradates were identified. A unilateral rosacea-like chronic dermatitis of the right side of the face was shown to harbor innumerable Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis. Treatment with oral metronidazole suppressed the dermatitis but did not significantly reduce the Demodex population. Treatment with topical crotamiton eliminated the Demodex and was curative. These observations support the view that D. folliculorum and D. brevis may be pathogenic when they are present in extremely large numbers.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to make a normative description of the nature and duration of genital lesions sustained during consensual sexual intercourse, using the three most commonly used techniques; visualisation using the naked eye, colposcopy and toluidine blue dye followed by colposcopy.
