Tooth loss and cancer risk: a dose-response meta analysis of prospective cohort studies.

Conflicting results to identify the relationship between tooth loss and cancer risk. Therefore, a dose-response meta-analysis was performed to clarify and quantitative assessed the correlation between tooth loss and cancer risk. Up to March 2017, 25 observational epidemiological studies were included in current meta-analysis. Tooth loss was significantly associated with a higher risk of cancer. Additionally, tooth loss was associated with significantly a higher risk of esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, head and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreas cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, bla

Relationship between tooth loss and mortality in 80-year-old Japanese community-dwelling subjects.

BACKGROUND: Findings from several studies suggest associations between tooth loss and health outcomes, including malnutrition, poor quality of life, and mortality, in older individuals. However, limited information is available regarding whether those associations remain true in very elderly subjects after adequately considering confounding factors such as sex and smoking status. Herein, we determined whether the number of teeth in 80-year-old subjects is an independent predictor of mortality. METHODS: We initially contacted 1282 80-year-old community-dwelling individuals born in 1917, of who

Motor axon loss is associated with hand dysfunction in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 1a.

BACKGROUND: Charcot Marie Tooth type 1a (CMT1a) is a primarily demyelinating neuropathy, characterized by slowly progressive muscle weakness, atrophy, and sensory loss, and is most pronounced in both feet and hands. There is increasing evidence that muscle weakness is determined by motor axonal dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: To investigate in patients with CMT1a whether motor axon loss, as estimated with motor unit number estimation (MUNE) and compound muscle action potential (CMAP), is related to hand function and manual dexterity. METHODS: Hand function, manual dexterity, and axon loss were studi

[Dental tours de force 6. Autotransplantation in case of agenesis or traumatic tooth loss].

Autotransplantation of a tooth is probably the most natural method to replace a missing or lost tooth. This treatment has been performed successfully already for more than twenty years. The prognosis of a transplanted tooth is determined by tooth type, stage of root formation at the time of transplantation, surgical technique used, and duration and way of splinting. Determining the optimal stage of root formation of the tooth is very important in planning the autotransplantation. If the transplantation is carried out successfully, the transplanted tooth behaves at its new location just like be

Risk indicators for future clinical attachment loss in adult periodontitis. Tooth and site variables.

In an earlier report, we examined the relationship of patient-derived clinical and epidemiological variables to the risk for future clinical attachment loss (CAL) in chronic adult periodontitis. We determined that the extent of the patient's existing periodontal disease as measured by mean attachment loss (MAL) and the patient's age were the most important patient-derived risk indicators for CAL among those factors evaluated. In this study, we examined the tooth and site variables that were associated with CAL. Seventy-five patients with chronic adult periodontitis were followed for 6 months.

Evaluation of the Stress Induced in Tooth, Periodontal Ligament & Alveolar Bone with Varying Degrees of Bone Loss During Various Types of Orthodontic Tooth Movements.

INTRODUCTION: The force applied on to a tooth with periodontal bone loss may generate different magnitude and pattern of stresses in the periodontium when compared to a tooth with no bone loss & under the same force system. The intensity of the forces and moment to force ratios needed to be applied during an Orthodontic treatment must be adapted to obtain the same movement as in a tooth with a healthy periodontal support. AIM: Evaluation and assessment of the stress distribution during various types of Orthodontic tooth movement on application of Orthodontic force, at various levels of alveol

Are Area-Level Socioeconomic Factors Associated with Dental Caries and Tooth Loss? A Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: Area-level socioeconomic factors are within the social determinants of health, encompassing conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age, which influence health beyond individual characteristics. This review examined the association between area-level socioeconomic factors and dental caries and tooth loss. The hypothesis was that individuals residing in more socioeconomically deprived areas experience higher odds of dental caries and tooth loss, independent of individual socioeconomic status. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Embase,

Tooth loss from the perspective of studies employing a life course approach: a systematic review.

The life course approach scrutinizes factors that shape the development of diseases over time. Tooth loss, which is influenced by social, behavioral and biological factors, can occur at various stages of life and tends to become more prevalent in later years. This systematic review examined the influence of socioeconomic, psychosocial, biological and behavioral adversities in life on the likelihood of tooth loss. Searches were conducted in the Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Ovid, PsycINFO, Scopus and LILACS databases. Reference management was performed using EndNote online. The risk of bias w

Association between tooth loss and depression mediated by lifestyle and Inflammation- a cross-sectional investigation.

BACKGROUND: Depression and tooth loss are associated with the occurrence of systemic disease or the progression of multi-factorial disease, and both are considered important public health issues by World Health Organization (WHO). Previous research just suggested that tooth loss can generate psychological stress, low self-esteem, anxiety and other emotional disturbances. However, the precise correlation and underlying mechanisms between depression and tooth loss remains poorly understood. Consequently, we aim to explore the association between depression and tooth loss through a cross-section

Tooth loss is associated with an increased risk of hypertension: A nationwide population-based cohort study.

Tooth loss is closely associated with suboptimal oral care. Suboptimal oral care can facilitate local infections. These can lead to systemic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction, which are important pathological mechanisms of hypertension. The aim of this study was to investigate the link between tooth loss and the risk of hypertension. From the national health insurance system-health screening cohort in Korea, 19,680 participants who underwent three or more health examinations, including blood pressure measurements, between January 2003 and December 2008, without any history or diagnosis

Facilitation of Bone Healing Processes Based on the Developmental Function of Meox2 in Tooth Loss Lesion.

In the present study, we examined the bone healing capacity of Meox2, a homeobox gene that plays essential roles in the differentiation of a range of developing tissues, and identified its putative function in palatogenesis. We applied the knocking down of Meox2 in human periodontal ligament fibroblasts to examine the osteogenic potential of Meox2. Additionally, we applied in vivo periodontitis induced experiment to reveal the possible application of Meox2 knockdown for 1 and 2 weeks in bone healing processes. We examined the detailed histomorphological changes using Masson's trichrome stainin
