Remineralization of bovine incisor root lesions in vitro: the role of the collagenous matrix.

This study deals with the role of collagen in the remineralization of bovine incisor root lesions. The degradability of the collagenous matrix after in vitro remineralization was also investigated. The root surfaces were exposed to 0.1 M acetic acid, pH 4.0, to produce erosive lesions or to 0.1 M lactic acid, 0.2 mM methane hydroxy diphosphonate, pH 5.0, to produce subsurface lesions. After demineralization, the roots were subjected to remineralization, with or without prior treatment with a bacterial collagenase to remove accessible collagen. Remineralization was carried out in solutions with

Promising potential effects of resveratrol on oral and dental health maintenance: a comprehensive review.

Resveratrol (RV-3, 5, 4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a natural compound found in plants like red grapes, berries, and peanuts, with promising effects on dental health. It helps strengthen tooth enamel by promoting remineralization, making the teeth more resistant to decay caused by acid-producing bacteria. RV also shields dentin, a vulnerable layer beneath the enamel, from erosion and sensitivity. Its anti-inflammatory properties can reduce inflammation associated with dental conditions such as pulpitis and endodontic diseases. Moreover, RV's antimicrobial activity inhibits the growth of bacteria i

Comparison of Mast Cell Count in Oral Epithelial Dysplasia and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Dentin bonding with etch-and-rinse adhesives involves demineralizing the 5-8µm of the surface dentin to create micro space for resin infiltration. The presence of continuous fluid movement in dentin tubules and positive pulpal pressure prevents complete water replacement by resin monomers. This results in areas of demineralized dentin, which contain collagen fibers without resin infiltration. The exposed collage fibers are subjected to enzymatic degradation leading to less durable hybrid layer. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralizing effect

Biomimetic Effect of Saliva on Human Tooth Enamel: A Scanning Electron Microscopic Study.

Introduction: Due to the presence of ion reservoir, saliva may facilitate enamel remineralization and neutralize pH of acidic beverage leads to prevent enamel demineralization. Saliva substitute/artificial saliva has been developed in subsequent years and may differ in physical properties, function, or pH level from 5.0 to 7.3. Objectives: To evaluate the biomimetic effect of saliva (neutralization) on tooth enamel exposed to carbonated beverage (pH 2.44) and to observe therapeutic capability (remineralization) of artificial saliva over previously eroded (grade 3 and grade 5) enamel surface. Three-dimensional observation and analysis of remineralization in dentinal caries lesions.

The remineralization mechanism in dental caries lesions is not completely understood. This study reports on ultrastructural and chemical changes observed within arrested caries lesions. Carious human teeth were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and focused-ion-beam (FIB)-SEM. The crystals detected in the caries lesions were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), along with chemical element mapping using energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS)-STEM. FIB-SEM 3D reconstructions revealed a severely damaged dentin surface abundantly covered by bacteria. Although the d

Amorphous calcium phosphates for tooth mineralization.

The destruction of tooth structure through caries and erosive processes is due to two types of acidic challenges that affect the tooth in different ways. Acidic attack by cariogenic bacteria initially produces subsurface lesions that weaken the enamel and, if left unchecked, can progress through the enamel and dentin and eventually into the pulpal cavity. Erosive attack by acidic foods and beverages removes mineral from the surface of enamel and initially causes dulling and loss of tooth luster; if left unchecked, it can progress to a more severe loss of enamel thickness and contour. This arti

Remineralization of human dentine in vitro.

In this paper the in vitro remineralization of human dentine with 0, 0.5, 2 and 10 ppm F in the remineralization solution is presented and analyzed by microradiography. Furthermore, the remineralization data of human and bovine dentine are quantitatively compared. The main results of this paper are: (1) the efficacy of human (and bovine) remineralization is about proportional to the square root of the F level in the remineralizing solution, and (2) the amount of mineral effectively deposited in the dentine is most likely controlled by the diffusion of fluoride into the tissue. This study shows

Is It Possible to Remineralise Hypomineralised Enamel Lesions in Patients with Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation?

Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) is characterized with reduced enamel mineral quantity, especially in the calcium and phosphate content, with increases in the carbonate and protein contents. Albumin is the main protein that accumulates pre-eruptively, leading to defective initiation of mineralisation. Other oral-fluid proteins are found in cases of posteruptive enamel surface breakdown. Most of the lesions extend through the full thickness of enamel. Due to the lower mineral quantity and increased carbon and protein content, MIH teeth are more prone to fractures once exposed to masticati
