Improving Performance of Devanagari Script Input-Based P300 Speller Using Deep Learning.

The performance of an existing Devanagari script (DS) input-based P300 speller with conventional machine learning techniques suffers from low information transfer rate (ITR). This occurs due to its required large size of display, i.e., 8 × 8 row-column (RC) paradigm which exhibits issues like crowding effect, adjacency, fatigue, task difficulty, and required large number of trials for character recognition. For P300 detection, deep learning algorithms have shown the state of art performance compared to the conventional machine learning algorithms in the recent past. Therefore, authors have bee

Machine learning driven QSPR analysis of anti-blood cancer drugs using graph invariants.

The quantitative description of drug molecules through their molecular structures is central to computational studies of drugs. This paper presents a machine learning-driven quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) model linking graph-based structural descriptors to the physicochemical properties of anti-blood cancer drugs. A dataset of 13, anti-blood cancer drug molecules was characterized using six degree-based topological indices: the first Zagreb, second Zagreb, Sombor, reduced Sombor, harmonic, and Randić indices. These graph-derived descriptors were used as molecular features

Introducing enzymatic cleavage features and transfer learning realizes accurate peptide half-life prediction across species and organs.

Peptide drugs are becoming star drug agents with high efficiency and selectivity which open up new therapeutic avenues for various diseases. However, the sensitivity to hydrolase and the relatively short half-life have severely hindered their development. In this study, a new generation artificial intelligence-based system for accurate prediction of peptide half-life was proposed, which realized the half-life prediction of both natural and modified peptides and successfully bridged the evaluation possibility between two important species (human, mouse) and two organs (blood, intestine). Load-Decomposition Learning Enhances Ground Reaction Force Estimation Using IMUs.

Accurate estimation of ground reaction forces (GRFs) is fundamental to gait analysis and supports functional gait assessment, surgical planning, and rehabilitation. We propose a physics-learning hybrid framework that combines linked-segment dynamics with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to estimate vertical GRFs (vGRFs) from seven inertial measurement units (IMUs). The learning module produces an unconstrained allocation variable that decomposes the physics-derived net force into limb-specific vGRFs. The framework was systematically evaluated against machine learning-based baseli

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease from functional rs-fMRI images based on deep learning networks and transfer learning approach.

Exploiting deep learning methods to accelerate the analysis of medical images and the interpretation of pathology results for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has recently attracted great attention. However, challenges like sub-optimal classifiers and poor image representation hinder their effectiveness. Computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) can improve performance by classifying patterns. Despite the drawbacks of deep networks such as Visual Geometric Group (VGG), including long processing times and performance issues due to data distribution, many CADx systems still rely on VGG classifi

Differentiation of Myositis-Induced Models of Bacterial Infection and Inflammation with T2-Weighted, CEST, and DCE-MRI.

We used T2 relaxation, chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess whether bacterial infection can be differentiated from inflammation in a myositis-induced mouse model. We measured the T2 relaxation time constants, %CEST at 5 saturation frequencies, and area under the curve (AUC) from DCE-MRI after maltose injection from infected, inflamed, and normal muscle tissue models. We applied principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce dimensionality of entire CEST spectra and DCE signal evolutions, which were analyzed u

Innovative methodology for flexible monitoring of various bioprocesses by using pre-existing Raman data coupled with automated transfer learning technique.

This study introduces an innovative approach for the flexible monitoring of bioprocesses using Raman spectroscopy coupled with automated transfer learning. Traditional Raman spectroscopy requires extensive process-specific calibration, limiting its transferability across different conditions. To address this, we developed an automated method that utilizes the dynamic orthogonal projection (DOP) algorithm to use pre-existing chemometric models built from one process ("Input Process") to monitor a distinct process ("Target Process") which lacked its own Raman models. These new processes conditio

Multivariate and Online Transfer Learning With Uncertainty Quantification.

Untreated periodontitis causes inflammation within the supporting tissue of the teeth and can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Modeling periodontal outcomes is beneficial as they are difficult and time-consuming to measure, but disparities in representation between demographic groups must be considered. There may not be enough participants to build group-specific models, and it can be ineffective, and even dangerous, to apply a model to participants in an underrepresented group if demographic differences were not considered during training. We propose an extension to the RECaST Bayesian transfer

Praxis-BGM: clustering of omics data using semi-supervised transfer learning for Gaussian mixture models via natural-gradient variational inference.

MOTIVATION: High-dimensional omics data are typically measured on limited sample sizes, which challenges model-based clustering methods such as Gaussian mixture models (GMMs), often leading to instability and poor generalization under complex mixture structures. To address these limitations, we developed Praxis-BGM, a natural-gradient variational inference framework for GMMs. Praxis-BGM enables semi-supervised transfer learning by incorporating an informative prior GMM estimated from large-scale reference data with robust cluster structures. The prior model can encode cluster-specific means, c
