Trust, Conflicts of Interest, and Concussion Reporting in College Football Players.

Sports medicine clinicians face conflicts of interest in providing medical care to athletes. Using a survey of college football players, this study evaluates whether athletes are aware of these conflicts of interest, whether these conflicts affect athlete trust in their health care providers, or whether conflicts or athletes' trust in stakeholders are associated with athletes' injury reporting behaviors.

Attachment and Personality Disorders Among Child Molesters: The Role of Trust.

The present study investigated multivariate associations between attachment styles and personality disorders (PDs)-and the mediating role of trust-in a sample of child molesters ( n = 84) and a matched control group from the general community ( n = 80). Among child molesters, canonical correlation analysis revealed that two variates resembling avoidant and anxious attachment dimensions were associated with PD traits. Attachment avoidance was related to schizoid, schizotypal, and avoidant PDs, with a marginal contribution of antisocial PD. Attachment anxiety was related to borderline and histri

(Dis)-Trust in transitioning ventilator-dependent children from hospital to homecare.

BACKGROUND: Scholarly work is needed to develop the conceptual and theoretical understanding of trust to nursing practice. The transition from hospital care to complex pediatric homecare involves nurses in myriad roles, including management and care provision. Complex pediatric homecare transforms children, families, professionals, and communities, but its exact implications are unclear. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: To conduct an ethical inquiry into the role and responsibilities of nurses in the qualitative experience of adults involved in the hospital-to-home transition of young, ventilator-depende

An exhaustive epistatic SNP association analysis on expanded Wellcome Trust data.

We present an approach for genome-wide association analysis with improved power on the Wellcome Trust data consisting of seven common phenotypes and shared controls. We achieved improved power by expanding the control set to include other disease cohorts, multiple races, and closely related individuals. Within this setting, we conducted exhaustive univariate and epistatic interaction association analyses. Use of the expanded control set identified more known associations with Crohn's disease and potential new biology, including several plausible epistatic interactions in several diseases. Our

Trust influences response to public health messages during a bioterrorist event.

This study builds on recent work describing African Americans' low trust in public health regarding terrorism preparedness by identifying the specific components of trust (fiduciary responsibility, honesty, competency, consistency, faith) that may influence community response to a bioterrorist attack. We used qualitative analysis of data from 75 African American adults living in Los Angeles County who participated in focus group discussions. Groups were stratified by socioeconomic status (SES; up to vs. above 200% of federal poverty guidelines) and age (18-39 years old vs. 40-65 years old). Di

A study of neonatal BCG immunization within an acute hospital trust.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis is a re-emerging problem in the United Kingdom. BCG immunization administered in the neonatal period is protective. National guidelines and locally published standards identify infants for whom BCG immunization is recommended. The study aimed to calculate the rate of identification of infants 'at risk' by parental ethnic group and/or family history of tuberculosis, to determine subsequent immunization uptake, and to describe characteristics associated with missed BCG immunization. METHODS: A retrospective audit was conducted. Demographic data were collected from a com

Injections and self-help: risk and trust in Ugandan health care.

The paper draws upon research material collected during a one year long ethnographic study on injection use and a WHO funded Injection Practices Research Project, which were both carried out during 1992/1993. The paper examines the changing trends in injection use and practices in the context of the Ugandan health system and in relation to popular views about risk and trust. Generally, people mistrust injections provided at government health institutions and prefer to gain access to injections as symbolic tokens of healing through personal contacts and private ownership of injecting equipment.

Retaining and Enhancing Trust in the Chemical Sciences: A Call for Collaborative Action.

High-quality research data are essential for reproducibility, trust, and innovation in the chemical sciences. While the FAIR principles have improved the findability and accessibility of data, intrinsic data quality, such as accuracy, completeness, and consistency, remains insufficiently addressed. This editorial calls for coordinated community action to strengthen chemical data infrastructures and to treat research data as a first-class scientific output. Building on successful models and through collaboration under organizations including CODATA and IUPAC, the chemical sciences community can

Consumer Perspectives on Trust in and Benefits of Artificial Intelligence in Health Care.

IMPORTANCE: Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve patient-centered care, yet several AI health care projects have failed due to public backlash, underscoring the importance of social license (informal public acceptance of AI in health care, grounded in trust and expectation of public benefit). How consumers conceptualize social license remains largely unknown. OBJECTIVES: To explore social license for AI in health care among consumers and to identify strategies for achieving it. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A participatory qualitative study using the comfort board m

The Invisible threshold of childbearing: an investigation of social trust and fertility intentions.

INTRODUCTION: Against the backdrop of persistently low fertility in China, understanding the psychosocial factors associated with fertility intentions has become increasingly important for both demographic research and policy development. METHODS: Drawing on nationally representative data from the 2023 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS), this study examines the associations between multidimensional social trust and fertility intentions and further explores the mediating role of subjective well-being. Building on trust theory, social trust is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct co

Religion and Social Trust in China: An Analysis Based on the Belief in Deities.

Research on the impact of religion on social trust in China has presented conflicting conclusions. Proponents of the enhancement theory posit that religious belief increases social trust, but advocates of the inhibition theory contest this view. Such discrepancies might be due to varying research samples and the limitations of surveys that rely on religious affiliations, which inadequately represent the diffused nature of Chinese religiosity. Given the prominence of diffused religious practices in China, measurement based on deities rather than affiliations can address issues such as omitted o

The empathogen 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, but not methamphetamine, increases feelings of global trust.

BACKGROUND: The empathogen and psychostimulant 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is thought to boost both subjective well-being and social connection. Although MDMA is considered to enhance social connection to a greater extent than other stimulant drugs, few studies have compared MDMA to other stimulants. In addition, previous studies have focused on social positivity effects (e.g., increased trust) for specific in-lab interaction partners without considering more generalized social positivity effects (e.g., trust in one's community). AIMS: We tested the effects of MDMA on subjective

Patients' attitudes toward artificial intelligence in dentistry and their trust in dentists.

OBJECTIVES: This study intended to evaluate patients' attitudes toward the use of AI in dental radiographic detection of occlusal caries and the impact of AI-based diagnosis on their trust in dentists. METHODS: A total of 272 completed questionnaires were included in this study. In the first part of the study, approval was obtained from the patients, and data were collected about their socio-demographic characteristics. In the second part the 11-item Dentist Trust Scale was applied. In the third and fourth parts, there were questions about two clinical scenarios, the patients' knowledge of at

Validation of the Argentine version of the epistemic trust, mistrust, and credulity questionnaire.

Epistemic trust refers to the trust in communicated knowledge, specifically an individual's ability to regard knowledge conveyed by others as meaningful, relevant to oneself, and applicable to other contexts. This area has received considerable attention in recent psychological literature, though predominantly from a theoretical perspective. The main objective of this study was to test the factorial validity of the Epistemic Trust, Mistrust, and Credulity Questionnaire (ETMCQ) on an Argentine setting. Based on two studies (Study 1, n = 1018; Study 2, n = 559), the factorial structure of the in

A survey of the training experiences and needs on Wellcome Trust PhD programmes.

BACKGROUND: Training for PhD researchers was previously identified by the Wellcome Trust funded Emerging Research Cultures project as an area for further investigation to ensure an inclusive culture which enables PhD students to become well-rounded researchers. METHODS: The Taskforce on Training conducted a survey of 35 Wellcome Trust funded PhD students and 10 programme administrators to evaluate the provision of training in eight key areas. This survey examined a number of issues, such as availability and knowledge of training, potential gaps in training, and the perceived usefulness of tra

Trusting information from friends: Adults expect it but preschoolers do not.

As adults, we might understand that beliefs often spread because people are strongly influenced by their friends, family, and other social connections. However, do we think those influences are strong enough to overrule direct evidence of a friend's unreliability? And do preschoolers expect people to show such biases toward friends and to privilege friendship over reliability? Across three experiments, we explored whether friendship influences the evaluations of trust when others learn labels for novel objects as well as personal opinions. After watching scenes involving a main character, her

The natural menstrual cycle revisited - can natural cycle be trusted.

BACKGROUND: The serum progesterone (P4) level during the luteal phase (LP) plays a crucial role in the initiation and maintenance of pregnancy. However, it is unclear whether the natural cycle consistently provides the best endocrine profile and whether mid-luteal serum P4 levels are always sufficient to support implantation and early pregnancy. The question has become more relevant in relation to fertility treatment, as more frozen embryo transfer cycles are performed in the natural cycle. Moreover, can serum hormone levels and covariates measured during the follicular phase (FP), such as Fol

A Model of Trust Processes in Borderline Personality Disorder: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Unstable relationships are a core feature of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Impairments in trust processes (i.e., appraisal and learning regarding others' trustworthiness) can subserve interpersonal problems associated with BPD, but the determinants, mechanisms, consequences, and variations in trust impairments among individuals with BPD remain poorly characterized. Thus, a better understanding of such impairments could help target interventions that address the interpersonal problems of individuals with BPD beyond emotion dysregulation, impulsivity, and aggression.
