OBJECTIVES: Influenza infection is associated with substantial maternal morbidity and mortality during pregnancy; however, influenza vaccination uptake remains low. Physician's recommendations have been identified as one of the key determinants of vaccination rates. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of physician's recommendation on influenza vaccination rates among pregnant women and to examine factors associated with vaccination behaviour.
METHODS: This prospective observational study included 356 pregnant women aged 18-50 years with a gestational age of ≥12 weeks who were rece

BACKGROUND: Despite the introduction in 2017 of mandatory vaccination for the hexavalent and the measles-mumps-rubella-varicella vaccines, childhood vaccination coverage in Sicily (Italy) remains below the recommended and safety threshold of 95%. A catch-up vaccination intervention was implemented for the pediatric population of the 2022-2023 birth cohorts residing in a health district of Palermo (Bagheria) where in 2024, 24-month coverage for polio and measles was 77.29% and 77.62%, respectively.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study with a before-after component was conducted between June 2025 a

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: Influenza is a disease that affects a large part of the world's population annually, with major health, social and economic impacts. Active immunisation practices have always been recommended to counter influenza, especially for people at risk. The recommendations of major health agencies strongly advise influenza vaccination for all healthcare workers, mostly for those in contact with at-risk or immunocompromised individuals. Yet, the influenza vaccination coverage among healthcare workers remains rather low worldwide. This review explore barriers and the facil

A number of states, starting with California, have recently removed all non-medical exemptions from their laws requiring vaccinations for schoolchildren. California was also one of the earliest states to include a broad non-medical, or personal, belief exemption in its modern immunization law, which it did with a 1961 law mandating polio vaccination for school enrollment, Assembly Bill 1940 (AB 1940). This paper examines the history of AB 1940's exemption clause as a case study for shedding light on the little-examined history of the personal belief exemption to vaccination in the United State

BACKGROUND: In the late 1990s, in the context of renewed concerns of an influenza pandemic, countries such as Ghana and Malawi established plans for the deployment of vaccines and vaccination strategies. A new pandemic was declared in mid-June 2009, and by April 2011, Ghana and Malawi vaccinated 10% of the population. We examine the public health policy perspectives on vaccination as a means to prevent the spread of infection under post pandemic conditions.
METHODS: In-depth interviews were conducted with 46 policymakers (Ghana, n = 24; Malawi, n = 22), identified through snowballing sampling

BACKGROUND: A 70% vaccination rate against COVID-19 in the general population was required for re-opening Phuket tourist industry. However, prior to this research, 39.61% of older people remained unvaccinated. This study aimed to examine perceptions and intentions around COVID-19 vaccination amongst older people and to explore the reasons and factors influencing their decisions to receive or refuse vaccination.
METHODS: This was a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. We conducted an online survey and semi-structured qualitative interview with a subsample. Multinomial l

The incidence of COVID-19 infection in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is similar to that in the general population, but the mortality rate is much higher. COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended for PAH/CTEPH patients. The aim of our cross-sectional study was to identify reasons why PAH/CTEPH patients refused vaccination against COVID-19. Moreover, we assessed the safety profile of approved COVID-19 vaccines in PAH/CTEPH patients. We examined 261 patients (164 PAH patients and 97CTEPH patients) with a median ag

OBJECTIVE: To model the dimensionality of understanding refusal to be vaccinated against smallpox.
METHOD: The Smallpox Vaccination Choice Questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of students. Through a series of factor analyses, responses were subjected to a statistical evaluation of the underlying factor structure of potential influences on choice.
RESULTS: The analyses suggest 5 dimensions: knowledge, perceptions of risk and worry, psychological distress, general beliefs about vaccines, and age.
CONCLUSION: This model will be used to help identify targets of intervention to

INTRODUCTION: Measles, mumps, and rubella incidence decreased drastically following vaccination programs' implementation. However, measles and mumps' resurgence was recently reported, outbreaks still occur, and challenges remain to control these diseases.
AREAS COVERED: This qualitative narrative review provides an objective appraisal of the literature regarding current challenges in controlling measles, mumps, rubella infections, and interventions to address them.
EXPERT OPINION: While vaccines against measles, mumps, and rubella (including trivalent vaccines) are widely used and effective,

OBJECTIVES: Acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination is attributable to sociodemographic factors and their complex interactions. Attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccines in the United States are changing frequently, especially since the launch of the vaccines and as the United States faces a third wave of the pandemic. Our primary objective was to determine the relative influence of sociodemographic predictors on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance. The secondary objectives were to understand the reasons behind vaccine refusal and compare COVID-19 vaccine acceptance with influenza vaccine uptake.
STUDY DESIGN:

In 2016, Sanofi Pasteur (S-P) experienced a manufacturing disruption of YF-Vax, the only U.S.-licensed yellow fever vaccine depleting the U.S. supply by mid-2017. Sanofi Pasteur received approval to import Stamaril, S-P's French-manufactured yellow fever vaccine, for use in 260 U.S. civilian clinics under an Expanded Access Program (EAP). The CDC also broadened its yellow fever vaccination indication in early 2018. Our objective was to assess usage at participating Global TravEpiNet (GTEN) clinics, a U.S. CDC-supported national consortium of clinical sites that administer vaccines, during this

BACKGROUND: Patients with haematological or oncological malignancies are at increased risk of severe infections. Vaccination is a key preventive strategy and is recommended by National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs). Yet, vaccination rates in this population remain improvable. This project aimed to evaluate and enhance vaccine uptake in cancer patients.
METHODS: We conducted a pre- and post-observational study at the University Hospital Cologne in Germany to assess vaccination status over a 1.5-year intervention. Relevant infections included COVID-19, influenza, herpes zoster

INTRODUCTION: Women with HIV face a significantly elevated risk of developing anal cancer (AC). However, data about screening (S) implementation in clinical practice and women's acceptability are still scarce.
METHODS: Since October 2022 our clinic implemented anal cancer screening (ACS) using anal HPV-DNA/cytology for women with HIV. Women with at least one positive result from these tests were referred for a high-resolution anoscopy (HRA). We collected demographic and clinical data, ACS adherence rates and reasons for refusal. Multivariable analyses were conducted to identify factors associ

Hospitalization for vaccine-preventable infections may influence parental vaccination attitudes, but comparative data for influenza and COVID-19 are limited. We conducted a multicenter observational study of unvaccinated children hospitalized with influenza or COVID-19 in Poland. We collected clinical data and parental survey data assessing vaccination regret, future vaccination intentions, willingness to encourage others, interest in vaccination reminders, reasons for non-vaccination, and sources of influence. Parents of influenza-hospitalized children reported greater regret over non-vaccina

In Italy, like in other countries, issues still exist regarding how to reach high vaccine coverage and several countries have considered policies to increase vaccine uptake. In the present study, we focused on people who have a favorable attitude towards vaccination. In March-April 2021, we asked a representative sample of Italian participants (N = 1,530) to assess to what extent they would support the adoption of a COVID-19 vaccination certificate, excluding unvaccinated people from participating in public and cultural events. Furthermore, as the vaccination coverage increases, severe forms o

The introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in Nigeria in October 2023 aimed to vaccinate over 16 million adolescent girls through mass vaccination campaigns in schools, communities, and public places. Despite this initiative, many girls remain unvaccinated, particularly in some of the states included in the first phase of the rollout. Little is known about the perspectives of parents and caregivers who consent on behalf of their daughters regarding the HPV vaccine. This paper presents a qualitative study protocol and research design to explore what informed parents and caregive

INTRODUCTION: Despite the target set by WHO, Africa still falls short when it comes to individuals' use of COVID-19 vaccines. There is a similar pattern of low vaccine usage for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and yellow fever (YF).
AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The objective of our study is to compare the awareness, attitude, and uptake of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD), COVID-19, HBV, and YF, between a rural and an urban community in Nigeria.
METHODOLOGY: The study was a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out between January 2022 and December 2022 in a rural community, Okada, and an urban comm

BACKGROUND: A vaccine against serogroup B Neisseria meningitidis, major cause of bacterial meningitis in children and adults, has recently been developed. In a context of an increasing parental mistrust against vaccinations, understanding the reason for their choices is crucial in order to improve immunization coverage. Our study aimed at evaluating parental attitudes and perceptions towards serogroup B meningococcal invasive disease vaccination.
METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted in different French independent-practice medical offices (general practitioners and paediat
