OBJECTIVE: Evaluation of the perfusion and viability of the femoral head after fracture of the femoral neck is important because the outcome of conservative treatment or joint-preserving surgery is adversely affected by the development of capital osteonecrosis. PURPOSE: This trial was designed to evaluate strategies to improve the efficacy of a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody (mCC49) against tumor-associated glycoprotein-72 (TAG-72) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aims of this study were to determine: safety and maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of (90)Y-mCC49 in combination with interferon alpha2beta (IFN); whether calcium disodium versonate (EDTA) or diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (DTPA) could reduce myelosuppression; and safety and MTD of paclitaxel (Taxol) in combination with (90)Y-mCC49.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an unusual malignant primary skin tumor, having a high incidence of local recurrent, and regional and distant metastasis. Due to its capacity to express somatostatin receptors, it can be detected in vivo with 111In-pentetreotide scintigraphy (Ostreoscan). We present a case of a MCC whose scintigraphy revealed regional metastases of a primary frontal cutaneous tumor that had been removed previously. The results verified a good correlation with clinical, radiological an histopathological findings.

To examine the atypical presentation of tuberculous spondylitis we evaluated seven cases seen in our hospitals during a five-year period (1989-1994) with procedures including MR imaging and CT scan. Three of the seven cases showed collapse of the single vertebral bodies with relatively spared disk spaces. Posterior elements were also involved on MR imaging in three cases, but the involvement of adjacent disks and vertebral bodies militated against metastases.

Ten patients with Ramsay Hunt syndrome underwent magnetic resonance (MR) scans. In many examinations, abnormal enhancement of the 7th nerve in the internal acoustic meatal segment through the mastoid segment was observed. Out of seven patients with cochlear and/or vestibular symptoms, only one showed abnormal enhancement of the 8th nerve, in addition to the 7th. OBJECTIVE: Damage to the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is an important secondary mechanism that occurs following traumatic brain injury (TBI) and may provide a potential therapeutic target to improve patient outcome.
