Clinical comparison of patients with ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter's syndrome and psoriatic arthritis.

Between 1976 and 1989, 160 cases of seronegative spondyloarthropathy (SNSA) were admitted to the Department of Medicine at Chulalongkorn Hospital. The prevalence of idiopathic ankylosing spondylitis (IdAS) was 52 cases (32.5%), Reiter's syndrome (RS) 68 cases (42.5%), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) 28 cases (17.5%), reactive arthritis eight cases (5.0%) and Behcet's disease four cases (2.5%). Clinical comparison of the patients with IdAS, RS and PsA showed a male predominance in IdAS (90.2%), RS (97.1%) and PsA (71.4%). There was a significant difference (p < 0.01) between IdAS and PsA, and RS and

Recurrent uveitis unveiling axial spondyloarthritis: is inflammatory back pain always the main road to diagnosis? A monocentric cohort.

BACKGROUND: Nongranulomatous acute anterior uveitis (NG-AAU) is the most common extra-articular manifestation of spondyloarthritis (SpA) and may be a warning sign of previously undiagnosed axial SpA (ax-SpA). OBJECTIVE: Given the known diagnostic delay of ax-SpA, this study aimed to determine the prevalence of previously undiagnosed ax-SpA among NG-AAU patients and to characterize the clinical features of ax-SpA identified through uveitis. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. METHODS: This monocentric study included consecutive NG-AAU patients referred to a tertiary ophthalmologic center between

Hip Involvement in Pediatric Scurvy: Early Magnetic Imaging Signs.

Background: Scurvy is an uncommon and often underrecognized disease. However, conditions associated with a restrictive and/or selective diet and inadequate absorption still pose a high risk for developing vitamin C deficiency. Musculoskeletal symptoms are among the most characteristic manifestations of scurvy, often requiring radiological investigations. Objective: This study aims to describe the radiological signs of scurvy on pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in children presenting with musculoskeletal symptoms and to highlight features that may help differentiate it from other conditi

Looking beyond gut inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease.

Patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often develop one or more extraintestinal manifestations (EIM). We performed a prospective study that included 517 patients with IBD (Crohn's disease - CD, ulcerative colitis - UC or undifferentiated colitis - CN) diagnosed between 1975 and 2016 in the Northeastern region of Romania. The patients were extracted from the national database (IBD Prospect). UC cases predominated compared to CD cases (n=368 vs. n=135). Only 10 patients were diagnosed with CN. In the study group, 51 cases with IBD and EIM were identified, having a prevalence o

Effect of probiotics on clinical and immune parameters in enthesitis-related arthritis category of juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Gut microflora and dysbiosis as an environmental factor has been linked to the pathogenesis of enthesitis-related arthritis (JIA-ERA); thus, we performed a proof-of-concept study of probiotics to modulate the gut-flora and study the effects on immune and clinical parameters of children having JIA-ERA. Forty-six children with active JIA-ERA were randomized to placebo or probiotic therapy along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for 12 weeks. Patients were assessed using a six-point composite disease activity index (mJSpADA) based on morning stiffness, joint count, enthesitis co
