Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with double-looped semitendinosus and gracilis tendon graft directly fixed to cortical bone: 5-year results.

Forty-three patients who had undergone an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using a doubled semitendinosus and gracilis graft were prospectively reviewed at 5-year follow-up. All had suffered subacute or chronic tears of the ligament. At surgery, the femoral tunnel was drilled first through the antero-medial portal. The correct position of the femoral and tibial guide wire was checked fluoroscopically. A cortical fixation to the bone was achieved in the femur with a Mitek anchor, directly passing the two tendons in the slot of the anchor, and in the tibia with an RCI screw, suppl

Analysis of Neuromuscular Control and Sensory and Psychological Anxiety Affecting Shock Absorption Capacity in Patients After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Patients who have undergone anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery are at high risk of re-injury and osteoarthritis due to increased impact during landing. The characteristics of patients after reconstruction surgery include significant co-contraction of the knee joint antagonistic muscles, decreased proprioception of the knee joint, and psychological anxiety. However, it is unclear whether these factors are related to shock absorption capacity during landing. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether neuromuscular control and sensory and psychological a

Recovering the regenerative potential in chronically injured nerves by using conditioning electrical stimulation.

OBJECTIVE: Chronically injured nerves pose a significant clinical challenge despite surgical management. There is no clinically feasible perioperative technique to upregulate a proregenerative environment in a chronic nerve injury. Conditioning electrical stimulation (CES) significantly improves sensorimotor recovery following acute nerve injury to the tibial and common fibular nerves. The authors' objective was to determine if CES could foster a proregenerative environment following chronically injured nerve reconstruction. METHODS: The tibial nerve of 60 Sprague Dawley rats was cut, and the

[Clinical application of biomechanic and functional anatomical findings of the knee joint].

In order to study the functional anatomy of the knee joint, careful anatomical dissections were conducted on over 130 fresh-frozen cadaveric knee specimens. We found no evidence to support the two-bundle and three-bundle theories of cruciate ligament fiber patterns. The longest fibers in the anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) measured 37 mm, and the longest in the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), 41 mm. Cruciate ligament insertions follow a transition line on tibia and femur. Usually not all the fibers of the cruciate ligaments are taut at the same time. They are progressively recruited accor

There is no difference between quadriceps- and hamstring tendon autografts in primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a 2-year patient-reported outcome study.

PURPOSE: Graft choice for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is crucial, however the optimal graft source remains a topic of controversy. The purpose of this study is to compare subjective and functional patient-reported outcomes (PRO) after single-bundle ACL reconstruction using quadriceps tendon (QT) or hamstring tendon (HT) autografts for single-bundle ACL reconstruction. We hypothesize that there is no difference in patient-reported functional outcomes after ACL reconstruction using either HT- or QT autograft. METHODS: All data were extracted from a prospectively collected AC

A new minimally invasive method for anatomic reconstruction of the lateral ankle ligaments with a Tightrope system.

BACKGROUND: Several minimally invasive anatomic reconstruction techniques of the lateral ligaments have been introduced for the treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability. However, these strategies may not always follow accurate ligament anatomic attachments, especially in the construction of the fibular bone tunnels. OBJECTIVES: This study reported a new percutaneous technique for reconstruction of the ligaments of lateral ankle anatomically with a Tightrope system. METHODS: From April 2016 to August 2016, 25 ankles of 24 patients with chronic ankle instability underwent our new percuta
