The effects of iron deficiency on the absorption of different dietary sources of iron were studied, together with the interactions between iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, copper and zinc in the jejunum-ileum of control and iron-deficient rats. A culture medium circulated through the rat heart and supplemented with insulin, transferrin and nerve growth factor leads to a massive proliferation of neurite outgrowth from neurons of peripheral sympathetic ganglia of the chick embryo. The distribution of DNP groups in various tissues of guinea-pigs following intravenous injection of DNBSO3Na was investigated by an immunofluorescent method using FITC-labelled anti-DNP antibody. BACKGROUND: 2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP) is a known uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation that clinically results in hyperthermia, tachycardia, tachypnea, and metabolic acidosis. Overdoses of DNP are often fatal and there is no specific reversal therapy. Dantrolene interferes with calcium release in skeletal muscle and is traditionally used to treat malignant hyperthermia. In this report, we describe a method for the quantitative determination of carbon dioxide production rates of mammalian cells. Custom-made, reusable, optically clear plugs are used to seal the wells of a 24-well plate. These plugs prevent the loss of CO2 produced by the mammalian cells cultured in bicarbonate-free medium.
