Prosthodontic planning in patients with temporomandibular disorders and/or bruxism: A systematic review.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The presence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and/or bruxism signs and symptoms may present multifaceted concerns for the prosthodontist. PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the relationship between prosthetic rehabilitation and TMDs and bruxism. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Three research questions were identified based on different clinical scenarios. Should prosthodontics be used to treat TMD and/or bruxism? Can prosthodontics cause TMDs and/or bruxism? How can prosthodontics be performed (for prosthetic reasons) in patients with TMDs and/or

[Non-celiac gluten sensitivity: a critical review of current evidence].

Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) is an emerging disorder characterized by intestinal and extra-intestinal symptoms related to the ingestion of gluten-containing food in non-celiac patients. Its prevalence has been estimated to be six to ten-times higher than that of celiac disease (CD). A gluten-free diet is the most widely recommended therapy, but the causative agent remains unknown and there are no consensus diagnostic criteria. Recent studies on NCGS have included patients with possibly overlooked minor CD and diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome without self-reported gluten in

Understanding Post Entry Sorting of Adenovirus Capsids; A Chance to Change Vaccine Vector Properties.

Adenovirus vector-based genetic vaccines have emerged as a powerful strategy against the SARS-CoV-2 health crisis. This success is not unexpected because adenoviruses combine many desirable features of a genetic vaccine. They are highly immunogenic and have a low and well characterized pathogenic profile paired with technological approachability. Ongoing efforts to improve adenovirus-vaccine vectors include the use of rare serotypes and non-human adenoviruses. In this review, we focus on the viral capsid and how the choice of genotypes influences the uptake and subsequent subcellular sorting.

The efficacy of ischemic conditioning in the prevention of gastroesophageal anastomotic complications: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The blood supply to the gastric conduit is thought to be the most crucial factor affecting the healing of the gastroesophageal anastomosis. By selective ligation or embolization of gastric vessels, ischemic conditioning (IC) could promote the hypertrophy and neovascularization of the remaining gastric vessels. So that it could help the stomach adapt to the decline of blood supply before esophagectomy. However, the safety and efficacy of the technique still needs to be proved. Several new studies on this topic have been published recently. We conduct this meta-analysis to update the

Adapting on-the-go in NYC: Ongoing implementation strategy and cultural adaptations of Problem Management Plus (PM+), a non-clinician delivered mental health intervention.

INTRODUCTION: Mental health service utilization remains disproportionately low among racial and ethnic minority populations, due to structural barriers and a lack of culturally responsive mental health programming in community settings. Adapting both intervention content and implementation strategies is essential to improving the fit and effectiveness of task-shared mental health interventions, yet most adaptation research focuses on pre-implementation changes rather than ongoing adjustments throughout a program's lifecycle. This paper examines adaptations to Problem Management Plus (PM+), a t

Caffeine effects on cardiovascular and neuroendocrine responses to acute psychosocial stress and their relationship to level of habitual caffeine consumption.

The effects of a moderate dose of caffeine on cardiovascular and neuroendocrine stress reactivity were examined in 25 healthy male subjects selected as habitual or light consumers of caffeine. Measurements were taken under resting conditions before and after administration of caffeine (3.5 mg/kg) or placebo, during a stressful laboratory task, and in a post-stress recovery period. Caffeine elevated blood pressure and plasma norepinephrine levels at rest, effects which added significantly to the effects of stress. Caffeine potentiated stress-related increases in plasma epinephrine and cortisol

Recent advances in managing and understanding pyoderma gangrenosum.

Pyoderma Gangrenosum (PG) is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis with multiple different clinical presentations and associated comorbidities. PG has historically been a challenging disorder to diagnose, leading to the development of new diagnostic criteria rather than the traditional approach of a diagnosis of exclusion. The pathophysiology is thought to involve both innate and adaptive immune system dysregulation, neutrophilic abnormalities, environmental, and genetic factors. As of today, no gold standard therapy exists for the treatment of PG, and the literature is restricted to mainly case repo

Sex differences in the pharmacology of itch therapies-a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Chronic itch is the most common skin-related condition, associated with a high psychosocial and economic burden. In recent years, increasing evidence of sex differences in the perception, clinical presentation and treatment requirements of itch points towards potential benefits when using sex-adapted therapies. It is well-known that body composition, absorption, metabolism, elimination and adverse drug reactions (ADRs) differ between sexes, but only little is known about the impact of sex in the pharmacology of itch treatments, which could help to rationalise sex-adapted treatment

Brothers Building Brothers by Breaking Barriers: Protocol for a Pilot Trial of a Telehealth Social Capital Intervention for Young Black Sexual Minority Men Living With HIV.

BACKGROUND: Young Black sexual minority men are disproportionately affected by HIV, especially in the Southern United States. To address this, we developed Brothers Building Brothers by Breaking Barriers (B6) intervention with a goal of enhancing social capital and engagement in care among young Black sexual minority men living with HIV. However, we encountered challenges to feasibility in recruiting and engaging for an in-person intervention. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are to iteratively adapt the original B6 intervention for telehealth delivery (Phase 1), and pilot test the int

Personalised health education against health damage of COVID-19 epidemic in the elderly Hungarian population (PROACTIVE-19): protocol of an adaptive randomised controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Early reports indicate that COVID-19 may require intensive care unit (ICU) admission in 5-26% and overall mortality can rise to 11% of the recognised cases, particularly affecting the elderly. There is a lack of evidence-based targeted pharmacological therapy for its prevention and treatment. We aim to compare the effects of a World Health Organization recommendation-based education and a personalised complex preventive lifestyle intervention package (based on the same WHO recommendation) on the outcomes of the COVID-19. METHODS: PROACTIVE-19 is a pragmatic, randomised controlled

Expert Perspectives on Next Generation Health Guidelines: How to Integrate RWE in EBM.

Integrating real-world evidence (RWE) into evidence-based medicine (EBM) enhances healthcare decision-making. RWE provides insights into the real-world effectiveness and safety of therapies and health technologies, filling gaps that clinical trials may leave. EBM, which concentrates on therapeutic issues, depends on rigorous evaluation of evidence, including data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and RWE. Combining evidence from RCTs and RWE when forming recommendations offers a comprehensive understanding of benefits and risks by considering their strengths, limitations, and standardiz

Can magnetic resonance imaging replace conventional computerized tomography for follow-up of patients with testicular cancer? A systematic review.

PURPOSE: Follow-up protocols for patients with testicular cancer (TC) have significantly reduced the number of cross-sectional imaging studies to reduce radiation exposure. At present, it is unclear whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could replace conventional computerized tomography (CT) imaging. The objective of this study is to summarize the scientific evidence on this topic and to review guideline recommendations with regard to the use of MRI. METHODS: A systematic literature review was performed searching Medline and Cochrane databases for prospective studies on patients with TC in

The Cytokines of Asthma.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease associated with type 2 cytokines interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-5, and IL-13, which promote airway eosinophilia, mucus overproduction, bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR), and immunogloubulin E (IgE) synthesis. However, only half of asthma patients exhibit signs of an exacerbated Type 2 response. "Type 2-low" asthma has different immune features: airway neutrophilia, obesity-related systemic inflammation, or in some cases, few signs of immune activation. Here, we review the cytokine networks driving asthma, placing these in cellular context and incorpo

Italian guidelines for the diagnosis and management of colonic diverticulosis and diverticular disease.

Colonic diverticulosis and diverticular disease are among the most common gastrointestinal disorders encountered in clinical practice. These Italian guidelines focus on the diagnosis and management of diverticulosis and diverticular disease in the adult population, providing practical and evidence-based recommendations for clinicians. Experts from five Italian scientific societies, constituting a multidisciplinary panel, conducted a comprehensive review of meta-analyses, systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, and observational studies to formulate 14 PICO questions. The assessment o

Applying the ADAPT-ITT framework to adapt a lifestyle Redesign® occupational therapy intervention for diabetic foot ulcer self-management.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) affect approximately 25% of people with diabetes and are associated with decreased quality of life, high healthcare costs, recurrent wounds, and amputation risk. Standard DFU care emphasizes offloading to promote healing; however, adherence is often poor due to behavioral, psychosocial, and everyday life challenges. These gaps highlight the need for person-centered interventions that support DFU self-management within daily routines. PURPOSE: To systematically adapt a Lifestyle Redesign® occupational therapy intervention (LR-OT) for DFU self-management
