Target-induced oxygen vacancy on the etching WO3 photoanode for in-situ amplified photoelectrochemical immunoassay.

Sluggish charge transfer and rapid electron-hole recombination severely limit the analytical performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunoassays. This work presented a PEC immunosensing strategy that employed a target-induced enzyme-catalyzed reaction to in-situ generate oxygen vacancy (Ov) for amplifying the photocurrent detection of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Concretely, ascorbic acid-2-phosphate (AAP) was catalyzed to produce ascorbic acid (AA) by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in the presence of CEA. The generated AA could serve as a reducing agent to introduce oxygen vacancy (Ov) into

CuS@Ag Heterostructure-based Surface Plasmonic Coupling Electrochemiluminescence Sensor for Glioma miRNA-124-3p Detection.

As an emerging class of extended crystalline organic materials, covalent organic framework (COF)-based aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIE-gen) exhibited encouraging emissive properties. In this work, 4',4'',4‴,4‴'-(1,1,2,2-Ethenetetrayl)tetra(4-biphenylcarbaldehyde) (ETBC) as AIEgen was used to prepare AIE-COF (ET-COF-COOH) luminescent nanoprobe. ETBC and 1,3,5-Tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TAPB) had an extended π electronic system that allowed electron delocalization and overlapping transport. Because AIEgen-ETBC served as the luminescence center of ET-COF-COOH, the ET-COF-COOH possess

Ultrasensitive detection of doxycycline enabled by oxygen vacancy modulated TiO2 nanotubes.

TiO2 nanotubes rich in oxygen vacancies (Ov), which were successfully fabricated on Ti foils, were used as the working electrode of a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor. The TiO2 nanotube electrode optimized with abundant Ov demonstrated a remarkable photocurrent density of 1.03 mA/cm2, which is approximately 2.9 times higher than that of the TiO2 nanotube electrode. When applied to the detection of DOC, this electrode exhibited a wide linear detection range spanning from 0.1 to 100 μM and achieved an exceptionally low detection limit of 0.043 μM with a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. Furthermore,

Peptide cleavage-mediated photoelectrochemical signal on-off via CuS electronic extinguisher for PSA detection.

In this work, a peptide-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was constructed based on CdTe/TiO2 sensitized structure as electrode and CuS nanocrystals as signal amplifier for the ultrasensitive detection of protein. After peptide was fixed to the CdTe/TiO2 electrode surface, the double-helix DNA (dsDNA) was immobilized at the end of the peptide and used as a carrier to immobilize the doxorubicin-copper sulfide nanocrystals (Dox-CuS) conjugates. As a proof of concept, prostate specific antigen (PSA) has been chosen as the model. In absence of PSA, CuS nanocrystals could consume electron d

Intracellular Helicobacter pylori in gastric epithelial progenitors.

Helicobacter pylori is generally viewed as an extracellular pathogen. We have analyzed the tropism of H. pylori clinical isolates in a gnotobiotic transgenic mouse model of human chronic atrophic gastritis, a preneoplastic condition. These mice lack acid-producing parietal cells and have an amplified population of dividing gastric epithelial progenitors (GEPs) that express NeuAc alpha 2,3Gal beta 1,4-glycans recognized by H. pylori adhesins. Scanning confocal and transmission electron microscopic studies of stomachs that had been colonized for 1 month or 1 year revealed intracellular bacterial

Negative Quantum Capacitance-Driven Photonic Synapse with Ultralow Energy Consumption and Year-Scale Retention.

Emerging neuromorphic systems demand devices that seamlessly integrate sensing, memory, and computing in a single element to overcome the energy and latency constraints inherent to conventional architectures. Here, we introduce a two-dimensional van der Waals photonic synapse (MoS2/h-BN/WTe2/h-BN) with the Weyl semimetal (WTe2) employed as the floating gate. As the Fermi level is set near the Weyl nodes by a minute charge tunneling, the enhanced electron-electron correlation triggers the negative carrier compressibility and finally results in the negative quantum capacitance effect. This quant

Nanocatalytic Mitochondrial Oxidative Stress Amplification and Mitophagy Disruption for Efficient Tumor Catalytic Therapy.

Despite its attractive therapeutic potentials, nanocatalytic cancer therapy faces substantial challenges in delivery efficiency and target specificity. Organelle-targeted approaches, particularly those focusing on mitochondria, offer enhanced therapeutic precision. In this study, we have developed a mitochondria-targeted nanotherapeutic platform based on ultrasmall cobalt single-atom nanocatalysts functionalized with triphenylphosphine (TPP) and co-loaded with chloroquine (CQ) (Co-SA-TPP@CQ) for enhanced tumor catalytic therapy. Following precise mitochondrial localization, the nanocatalysts c

Morphological and molecular evidence of Linognathus vituli infestation in yaks from Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, China.

Louse infestations pose a serious threat to yak production, affecting animal health and causing substantial economic losses. However, until now there has been limited information available regarding yak lice infestations. Herein, we collected lice samples from Ganzi Tibetan yaks and amplified the nuclear small subunit ribosomal 18S and mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) genes for evolutionary and phylogenetic analyses. Stereoscopic and scanning electron microscope observations showed high morphological similarity between the yak lice and the cattle sucking louse Linognathus vi

Asymmetrically Coordinated Cu Single-Atom Nanozyme to Accelerate Inflammation and Immune Homeostasis Modulation in Acute Myocardial Infarction.

Single-atom nanozymes (SANs), characterized by tunable electronic properties and optimized atomic utilization efficiency, have attracted considerable attention for biomedical applications. Despite significant progress, their catalytic performance remains inferior to that of natural enzymes, largely attributable to symmetric coordination and an electronic structure. Herein, we successfully engineer a bromine (Br) doping copper (Cu)-based SAN with asymmetric coordination (Cu-BrN3/SAN@M), which exhibits higher catalytic performances compared to its symmetric counterpart, Cu-N4/SAN@M. The high ele

Dopant-Strengthened S-Scheme Heterointerfaces in Mo-TiO2/Sb2S3 Nanotubes Enable Built-In Field-Driven Charge Channels for Efficient Visible-Light Mineralization of Aromatic VOCs.

Efficient photocatalytic mineralization of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is fundamentally constrained by limited visible-light harvesting, rapid charge recombination, and high kinetic barriers associated with aromatic ring cleavage. Herein, it is reported that a Mo-doped TiO2/Sb2S3 nanotube (Mo-TiO2/Sb2S3) S-scheme heterojunction in which dopant-induced electronic modulation and interfacial built-in electric field (BIEF) engineering operate cooperatively to enable directional charge transport and accelerated oxidation kinetics. Spin Hall and spin Nernst effects in Th-based compounds: anab initiostudy of electron-phonon topology.

The efficient generation and manipulation of spin currents via the spin Hall effect (SHE) has motivated extensive efforts to discover materials with enhanced SHE. Meanwhile, its thermoelectric counterpart, the spin Nernst effect (SNE), has attracted growing interest for spin-caloritronic applications. In this work, we provide key insights from a systematicab initioinvestigation of the electronic and phononic topology, alongside the SHE and SNE, in the Th-based compounds ThAsS, ThAsSe, and ThSbSe. With the exclusion of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), the electronic band structures of these compounds

The structural effect of high intensity ultrasound on peritoneal tissue: a potential vehicle for targeting peritoneal metastases.

BACKGROUND: High-intensity ultrasound (HIUS) has been increasingly investigated as a possible tool in the treatment of multiple tumor entities. However, there is only little knowledge on the effect of HIUS on the peritoneum. This preliminary study aims to investigate HIUS' potential for altering the peritoneal surface and potentially improving current treatments for peritoneal metastases. For this purpose, HIUS' qualitative and quantitative structural effects on the peritoneal tissue were analyzed by means of light, fluorescence and electron microscopy. METHODS: Proportional sections were cut

Reverse barrier layer and interfacial M-O bond reinforcement in an S-scheme high-entropy oxide heterojunction for efficient photo-assisted lithium-oxygen batteries.

Lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs), as a promising next-generation high-energy-density system, are fundamentally limited by sluggish oxygen reduction (ORR) and oxygen evolution (OER) kinetics, resulting in high overpotentials and poor cycling stability. Herein, a p-type high-entropy spinel oxide (FeCoNiMnZnCrO x , HEO) was integrated with n-type photoactive TiO2 to construct an S-scheme heterojunction cathode (HEO@TiO2). At the heterointerface, Ti-O-M bonds (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Zn, Cr) enhance electron transport through Ti-induced electronic modulation and strengthen orbital hybridization between

Unlocking oxidase-mimicking activity in S-block calcium through single-atom engineering for synergistic peroxymonosulfate activation and detection.

S-block elements are conventionally considered catalytically inert for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation due to their lack of accessible d-orbital electrons, while rapid PMS detection during its activation remains challenging. Herein, we overcome these limitations by engineering a single-atom calcium catalyst (Ca-NC) with a Ca-N4 coordination structure, which exhibits unprecedented oxidase-mimicking activity for dual activation of molecular oxygen (O2) and PMS. Experimental and theoretical investigations reveal that nitrogen coordination partially populates the previously vacant Ca d-orbitals

Self-Confinement of Relativistic Pair Beams in Magnetized Interstellar Plasmas: The Case of Pulsar X-Ray Filaments.

The observation of filamentary x-ray structures near bow-shock pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe)-such as the Guitar, Lighthouse, and PSR J2030+4415 nebulae-and of slow-diffusion regions around pulsars like Geminga, Monogem, and PSR J0622+3749, challenges the standard picture of cosmic-ray transport in the interstellar medium, implying a diffusion coefficient 2 orders of magnitude smaller than the Galactic average. The suppressed diffusion can be attributed to self-generated magnetic turbulence driven, via the nonresonant streaming instability, by electron-positron pairs escaping the PWNe. This instab

Metabolic trade-offs in Desulfosporosus meridiei: dose-dependent FeS nanoparticles modulate extracellular electron transfer and gene expression for mineral transformation.

Biogenic ferrous sulfide nanoparticles (FeS NPs) regulate sulfate (SO42-)-reducing bacteria (SRB)-driven iron/sulfur cycling in SO42--rich anaerobic environments, yet their dose-dependent impacts on SRB metabolism remain unclear. This study revealed how FeS NPs dose modulates Desulfosporosus meridiei (a model SRB) in reducing schwertmannite (Sch). SRB preferentially reduced Fe(III) over SO42- in Sch via FeS NPs-mediated extracellular electron transfer (EET). At low FeS doses (0-6 mM), the dsr gene expression (sulfur metabolism) associated with mineral transformation increased despite a decline

Initial development of an electronic testis rigidity tester.

We aimed to develop our previously presented mechanical device, the Testis Rigidity Tester (TRT), into an electronic system (Electronic Testis Rigidity Tester, ETRT) by applying tactile imaging, which has been used successfully with other solid organs. A measuring device, located at the front end of the ETRT incorporates a tactile sensor comprising an array of microsensors. By application of a predetermined deformation of 2 mm, increased pressure alters linearly the resistance of each microsensor, producing changes of voltage. These signals were amplified, filtered, and digitized, and then pro
