Renoduodenal fistula after transcatheter embolization of renal angiomyolipoma.

Transcatheter embolization of renal angiomyolipomas is a routinely performed, nephron-sparing procedure with a favorable safety profile. Complications from this procedure are typically minor in severity, with postembolization syndrome the most common minor complication. Abscess formation is a recognized but uncommon major complication of this procedure and is presumably due to superinfection of the infarcted tissue after arterial embolization. In this case report, we describe the formation of a renoduodenal fistula after embolization of an angiomyolipoma, complicated by intracranial abscess fo

Unilateral simultaneous renal oncocytoma and angiomyolipoma: case report.

A rare case of synchronous angiomyolipoma and oncocytoma in the same kidney of a 70 year old man is presented. A left renal mass was found incidentally by ultrasound. Computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 1,3 cm mass in the mid-portion of the left kidney, whereas on the lower pole of the same kidney, a 3,3 cm mass was also revealed, consistent with angiomyolipoma. A working diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma was made. A radical nephrectomy was performed. Microscopically, the tumor of the lower pole was found to be an angiomyolipoma, whereas the mid-portion tumor was

Wunderlich's syndrome with hepatic angiomyolipoma in tuberous sclerosis.

We present a patient of tuberous sclerosis complex with bilateral renal angiomyolipoma and hepatic angiomyolipoma with spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage from right angiomyolipoma (Wunderlich's syndrome). Nephron preserving approach was tried but the right kidney could not be salvaged. Hepatic angiomyolipoma was managed conservatively. Wunderlich's syndrome has been found in around 10% of cases of renal angiomyolipomas. Hepatic Angiomyolipoma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm of the liver which is rarely reported in literature.

[Spontaneous rupture of renal angiomyolipoma: a case report].

A 55-year-old woman presented with sudden right lower abdominal pain. Computed tomography demonstrated retroperitoneal hematoma associated with minus-density area, diagnosed as spontaneous rupture of angiomyolipoma. Super-selective transarterial embolization was performed, but anemia and right abdominal pain became worse in spite of conservative therapy including transfusion, indicating re-rupture of the renal tumor. Although partial nephrectomy was planned, right nephrectomy was finally performed because of massive intraoperative bleeding. Accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment are required

Malignant transformation of renal angiomyolipoma: a case report.

We report a case of renal angiomyolipoma (AML) with malignant transformation. A 28-year-old woman developed large bilateral renal masses 5 months before admission to our hospital. She was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis when she was 4 years old. Total nephrectomy of the left kidney was performed, but she died during the operation. Although the focal region of the resected tumor had the appearance of a classic AML, most of the lesion showed a diffuse proliferation of atypical epithelioid cells resembling that in renal cell carcinoma. The epithelioid cells had extremely pleomorphic and hyperch

Hepatic angiomyolipoma: a clinicopathologic study of 10 cases.

OBJECTIVE: To study the clinicopathologic features of hepatic angiomyolipoma (AML) and to investigate the feasibility of a new antibody-A103 as a diagnostic aid for AML. METHODS: Ten cases of AML were retrieved from hospital records and analyzed morphologically. Immunohistochemistry was performed on paraffin-embedded tissues with a panel of antibodies, including antibody-A103. RESULTS: There were eight women and two men, with ages ranging from 38-58 years (median 45.7). Clinically, nine cases were asymptomatic and found by imaging techniques. None of the patients had associated tuberous scle

[Renal angiomyolipoma. Diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging].

Owing to the wider use of ultrasonography, renal angiomyolipoma is now diagnosed with increasing frequency. Within a few months, 10 female patients were explored by ultrasounds, computerized tomography and nuclear magnetic resonance (Magniscan 5,000, 0.5 Tesla). At ultrasonography the lesion was hyperechogenic in 9 cases and heterogenic in 1 case. At computerized tomography 7 patients had a strongly hypodense lesion and 3 had a lesion of slightly positive density. At magnetic resonance imaging the lesion produced a characteristically loud signal similar to that of fatty tissues. In practice, u

Prevalence of Renal Angiomyolipomas and Spontaneous Bleeding Related to Angiomyolipomas in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Patients in France and Norway-a Questionnaire Study.

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of renal angiomyolipomas (AMLs) and AML-related bleedings among patients with tuberous sclerosis complex and to gather information about associated treatments. METHODS: A questionnaire survey was undertaken by the French Reference Centre for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and distributed through university hospitals and the patients' association (2009-2011). The questionnaire was then distributed to patients registered by the Norwegian National Centre for Rare Epilepsy-Related Disorders (2013-2014). Risk of bleeding was estimated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. RE

A case of large renal angiomyolipoma resulted in hydronephrosis.

INTRODUCTION: Renal angiomyolipoma is one of the members of the perivascular epithelioid cell (PEC) tumour family. It has a characteristic triphasic morphology featuring varying proportions of dysmorphic blood vessels, smooth muscle cells, and mature adipose tissue. Large angiomyolipomas pose a risk of haemorrhagic complications. CASE REPORT: A 47-year-old woman presented with right abdominal pain for 2 months, and radiological investigation revealed a 14.2 cm renal mass causing hydronephrosis. The symptoms persisted after arterial embolisation and hence, nephrectomy was performed. The excise

Angiomyolipoma of the kidney-Clinicopathological analysis of 52 cases.

The renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign tumor characteristically composed of fat, smooth muscle tissue, and vessels. We collected AMLs from our nephrectomy database, reclassified them according to their histological appearance, recorded the demographic, clinical, and pathological parameters, and compared them with oncocytoma (RO) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Immunohistochemistry was ordered in 41 cases. In 2224 nephrectomies, we found 52 AMLs with a 53 mm median size. The mean age was 52.76. Forty-eight tumors were sporadic, while four were hereditary. The revision resulted in 31 classic

Spectrum of Presentations and Management Strategies in Renal Angiomyolipoma.

Renal angiomyolipoma (rAML) occurs rarely sporadically but is commonly encountered in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex and lymphangioleiomyomatosis. rAML is a rare entity, not seen regularly in daily practice; however, is commonly encountered and diagnosed by clinicians who approach and treat kidney masses. Basic knowledge of this entity is necessary to recognize that despite being benign, these tumors can rarely cause deadly complications such as hemorrhage or severe renal dysfunction or may have malignant components associated with them.

Complex Arterial Pathology of Angiomyolipomas of Tuberous Sclerosis.

Based on observations at angiography, it was hypothesized that angiomyolipomas (AMLs) associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) have a more robust parasitic blood supply and require more complex embolization involving lower order vessels compared with the non-TSC patients' AMLs. This was a retrospective review of 71 patients who underwent angiography and embolization for renal AML at multiple centers within a single health system. All of the patients with TSC (11/11) were found to have "complex" tumor vascular supply. Of the patients with sporadic AML, 51/60 (85%) had "simple" tumor vas

Embolization of an angiomyolipoma in a crossed fused renal ectopia.

Crossed fused ectopic kidney represents a rare congenital malformation, and development of an angiomyolipoma (AML) in a crossed fused ectopia is even rarer. There is no clear association between both entities. However, approximately half of crossed fused renal ectopic patients may develop infections, obstruction and/or nephrolithiasis. Nevertheless, they are very rarely associated with carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of AML in crossed fused renal ectopia. In this report, we present a patient with a left renal angiomyolipoma in a crossed fused renal ectopia managed by emboli
