A rare complication, 5-oxoproline-induced high anion gap metabolic acidosis (HAGMA) is associated with chronic acetaminophen use, predominantly reported in outpatient settings. When cells with surface-bound diphtheria toxin were exposed to pH 4.5, the toxin became shielded against lactoperoxidase-catalyzed radioiodination, indicating that the toxin was inserted into the membrane. In this article, the degradation of 4, 4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene) diphenol (bisphenol AF, BPAF) by ozone was studied and toxicity of the degradation products was evaluated. Kinetic studies showed that acidic conditions were more conducive to the ozone degradation of BPAF than alkaline conditions. The conjugate N,N-dimethyl curcumin analogue fluorophore dye 1 has been synthesized and its performance as a sensor was demonstrated. As a fluoride and cyanide sensor it enabled visual detection, and showed changes in UV-vis and fluorescence spectra in the presence of fluoride and cyanide ions in aqueous medium. The Job's plot indicated that the formation of a complex between dye-1 fluoride ions has a 1 : 1 stoichiometric ratio.

The proton-coupled folate transporter (PCFT) plays a key role in intestinal folate absorption, and loss-of-function mutations in the gene encoding this transporter are the molecular basis for hereditary folate malabsorption. The bacterial pathogen Brucella suis encodes two carbonic anhydrases (CAs, EC 4.2.1.1) belonging to the β-class, bsCA1 and bsCA2, which are crucial for its life cycle. Deoxygenation of alligator red blood cells (RBCs) caused binding of two HCO3- equivalents per hemoglobin (Hb) tetramer at physiological pH.
