This study reports the reading of 11 Arabic-speaking individuals with letter position dyslexia (LPD), and the effect of letter form on their reading errors. LPD is a peripheral dyslexia caused by a selective deficit to letter position encoding in the orthographic-visual analyzer, which results in migration of letters within words, primarily of middle letters. The Arabic orthography is especially interesting for the study of LPD because Arabic letters have different forms in different positions in the word. AIMS: To determine the prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease among the 1.5 million Arab residents in Israel who represent 20% of the total population.
METHODS: Family physicians in all Arab towns and villages were contacted to obtain information on patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Relevant clinical data were retrieved and updated to December 31, 2009.

METHODS: We analyzed hospital-based published studies on neonatal sepsis in eight Arabic countries documenting etiological pathogens and onset of sepsis published between 1990 and 2009.

PURPOSE: To analyze craniomaxillofacial injuries in selected hospitals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study of craniomaxillofacial injuries treated in 3 major hospitals in the UAE. Patient files were retrieved, reviewed, and analyzed. The main analysis outcome measures were the patients' name, age, and gender and the injuries' time, site, type, treatment and outcome.

The National Congenital Anomalies Register is a population-based register covering all births in the United Arab Emirates. We evaluated the progress of the register and determined the prevalence of congenital anomalies (CAs) and associated maternal and neonatal risk factors. OBJECTIVE: Dyslexia is a specific language-based disorder of constitutional origin, characterized by difficulties in phonological processing. The Arabic language differs in many aspects from foreign languages and the few previously designed Arabic tests for assessment of dyslexia did not pay attention to phonological awareness problems. A retrospective study on facial fractures was carried out in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Tawam Hospital (Al Ain, United Arab Emirates) between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 2001. Over a period of 7 years, among 175 boys under the age of 16 years with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), 16 (9%) developed 28 episodes of scrotal swelling that was unilateral in 26 (93%) and bilateral in 2 (7%). The febrile episodes encountered in our pediatric oncology unit over a 2-year period were reviewed. A total of 138 febrile episodes were recorded in 59 patients (29 with leukemia and 30 with a solid tumor).
