We report a case of successful argon laser synechiolysis as a non-invasive alternative for peripheral anterior synechiae release after trabeculectomy in a young patient with steroid-induced ocular hypertension. Steroid-induced ocular hypertension is a known complication of vernal keratoconjunctivitis due to prolonged treatment with steroids. In refractive conditions, augmented trabeculectomy becomes the surgery of choice in these patients. In this article, we report successful treatment of iris tissue plugging the internal ostium with an argon laser and reinstatement of aqueous flow.

BACKGROUND: Choroidal neovascularisation is known to occur following photocoagulation for choroidal melanomas. Its occurrence rate, possible causes and clinical impact were studied.

Argon laser iridotomy was performed in 123 eyes of 83 patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma. Sixty-three eyes received argon laser iridotomies with timolol pretreatment and the other 60 eyes served as controls. Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty (ALT) have been used in the treatment of open angle glaucoma since 1982. During a five-year period, 1982-1986, the annual rate of glaucoma filtering operations has decreased steadily from 65 to 8. The pressure reducing effect is good both in simple and capsular glaucoma. In secondary glaucoma ALT failed to control the intraocular pressure in about 50%. Simple and capsular glaucoma respond well to repeated ALT, but in secondary glaucoma repeated ALT seems to be useless.

This paper describes the use of a pulsed argon laser to perform iridotomies in 87 patients. Diagnosis include: primary angle closure glaucoma, narrow angle in the fellow eye of patients with primary angle glaucoma, pupillary block, and after incomplete surgical iridectomies.
