Psychological Interventions Targeting Depressive Symptoms in Children and Adolescents Living in War or Conflict Affected Zones: A Scoping Review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review maps psychological and psychosocial interventions aimed at reducing depressive symptoms in children and adolescents who continue to live within war- or armed conflict–affected zones. We sought to identify which approaches are specifically designed for depressive symptoms, how they are delivered in humanitarian contexts, and where robust evidence is still lacking. RECENT FINDINGS: Twenty-one studies published between 2005 and 2025 were identified across diverse settings including Palestine, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Nepal, and Northern Uganda. Most interven

Implications of conflict on vaccination in the Sahel region.

The Sahel region is a geographical belt in Africa that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, between the Sahara Desert in the north and the Savannah in the south. It is characterised by challenging environmental crises and conflicts. This analysis highlights the potential implications of conflict on vaccination across five Sahel countries, including Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger and Sudan, from 2019 to 2023. It also presents recommendations to improve vaccination coverage in these settings. The WHO Immunisation Data Portal was used to extract data about vaccination coverage and d

Migratory Wave due to Conflicts: Risk of Increased Infection From Zoonotic Diseases.

Wars have devastating effects on all the components of the One Health approach: humans, animals, and ecosystems. Wars and the resulting migratory waves massively disrupt normal animal health services and surveillance. Among other consequences, they adversely impact the early detection, prevention, and control of animal diseases. Uncontrolled movement of animals or their undisposed carcasses, the destruction of wildlife habitats, and the increased interface between humans, wildlife, and domestic animals contribute to uncontrolled transmission and spread of zoonotic pathogens from animals to hum

The epidemiology of 32 selected communicable diseases in Iraq, 2004-2016.

BACKGROUND: The 2003 invasion of Iraq significantly undermined population health. However, there is a lack of understanding of how it undermined communicable disease control. This study was performed to assess the incidence trends of 32 communicable diseases in post-conflict Iraq. METHODS: Reported incidence data for 32 communicable diseases (2004-2016) were collected from routine reports sent to the Iraqi Ministry of Health by primary health centers, and general and tertiary hospitals. Incidence (per 100 000) was defined as the number of reported incident cases divided by the population size

Approaches to Vaccination Among Populations in Areas of Conflict.

Vaccination is an important and cost-effective disease prevention and control strategy. Despite progress in vaccine development and immunization delivery systems worldwide, populations in areas of conflict (hereafter, "conflict settings") often have limited or no access to lifesaving vaccines, leaving them at increased risk for morbidity and mortality related to vaccine-preventable disease. Without developing and refining approaches to reach and vaccinate children and other vulnerable populations in conflict settings, outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease in these settings may persist and s

Conflict-related sexual violence: a review.

Conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) is a concerning yet prevalent feature of historical and current conflict. The term encompasses any form of sexual violence associated with conflict, including rape, sexual assault and forced marriage or prostitution. Acts of CRSV have been perpetrated by both military personnel and civilians against men, women and children. The aetiology of CRSV is complex and unique to each conflict and circumstance. It may arise as a deliberate tactic of war or as opportunistic criminal acts at times of the relative lawlessness resulting from conflict. CRSV can also be

When mirrors lie: "visual capture" of arm position impairs reaching performance.

If we stand at a mirror's edge, we can see one half of our body reflected in the mirror, as if it were the other half of our body, seen "through" the mirror. We used this mirror illusion to examine the effect of conflicts between visually and proprioceptively specified arm positions on subsequent reaching movements made with the unseen right arm. When participants viewed their static left arm in the mirror (i.e., as if it were their right arm), subsequent right-arm reaching movements were affected significantly more when there was conflict between the apparent visual and the proprioceptively s

Cancer care in conflict-affected regions: a scoping review of service delivery challenges, healthcare system adaptations, and policy implications.

BACKGROUND: Armed conflicts severely disrupt cancer care delivery, destroying infrastructure and limiting access to essential diagnostics and treatments. Evidence on service challenges, adaptations, and policy implications remains fragmented. METHODS: This scoping review of four databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and CINAHL) was conducted for original peer-reviewed studies published between January 2020 and August 2025. The search focused on the effect of wars on cancer service delivery in conflict zones, and its impact on cancer care. RESULTS: Wars in conflict-affected countries like

Child trafficking in Europe: what is the paediatrician's role? : A statement by the European Academy of Paediatrics.

UNLABELLED: Child trafficking is among the most lucrative criminal activities in the world and growing rapidly. Poverty, natural disasters, armed conflicts and, in particular, migration put vulnerable children at high risk of trafficking. Accurate statistics on child trafficking are not available due to its illegal nature. Moreover, trafficking may not be consistently recorded and reported by European countries, mainly because of different perceptions as to who is considered a victim of trafficking. Around 4000-5000 children were identified as presumed victims of trafficking in European Union

Modern Conflicts as Global Health System Shocks: A Multi-level Framework.

Armed conflict remains a major determinant of population health, with consequences extending well beyond immediate mortality and injury. These effects include disruption of health systems, environmental hazards, and broader socioeconomic instability. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States represents a rapidly evolving crisis with implications not only for affected populations but also for regional and global health systems. In this perspective, we argue that conflicts occurring within strategically critical energy and trade corridors should be understood as global h

Nexus of green energy, financial inclusion, militarization, and environmental sustainability: A global perspective.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

This article investigates the dynamic impact of green energy consumption (GE), financial inclusion (FI), and military spending (MS) on environmental sustainability (ES) by utilizing a sample of 121 countries from 2003 to 2022. The dataset is divided into high-income, upper-middle income and low and lower-middle-income countries. We employed a two-step system GMM approach, which was further robust through panel Quantile and Driscoll-Kraay (D-K) regressions. The findings divulged that green energy resources benefit ES at global and all income levels because of having a significant negative impac

Progress in Personalized Psychiatric Therapy with the Example of Using Intranasal Oxytocin in PTSD Treatment.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe mental disorder that results in the frequent coexistence of other diseases, lowers patients' quality of life, and has a high annual cost of treatment. However, despite the variety of therapeutic approaches that exist, some patients still do not achieve the desired results. In addition, we may soon face an increase in the number of new PTSD cases because of the current global situation-both the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing armed conflicts. Hence, in recent years, many publications have sought a new, more personalized treatment approach. One

Renal Replacement Therapy Capability for the Treatment of Combat-Associated Acute Kidney Injury: A Historical Perspective to Plan for Future Conflicts.

Trauma-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) has affected many U.S. warfighters throughout history. We seek to provide a historical review of the epidemiology of combat-acquired AKI and to highlight the importance of adapting current renal replacement therapy (RRT) capabilities to prepare for the next armed conflict. While severe AKI was rare in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, an analysis of prior wars suggests that it will be more common in future combat operations characterized by prolonged evacuation times, limited resuscitation capabilities, and delayed aeromedical evacuation. [Epidemic situation in the Chechen Republic].

The data on the morbidity in infectious diseases in the Chechen Republic in recent years are presented. As revealed from these data, under the conditions of the crisis situation the tendency towards the deterioration of the epidemiological situation began to show from the beginning of the 1990s. The growth of morbidity in some infections was registered, the outbreaks of dangerous infections (cholera, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, typhoid fever) appeared. The armed conflicts led to the disintegration of the sphere of social services of the republic and were accompanied by the destruction of the sy

Under poverty and conflict: Well-being of children living in the east of Turkey.

Children living in armed conflict zones are often exposed to political violence and other risk factors that may be caused or exacerbated by the conflict, such as poverty and family violence. If left untreated, these experiences may cause psychological problems throughout life. This study investigated the psychological well-being of children living in the low-intensity armed conflict zone in Turkey in relation to their adverse experiences. We collected data from 409 caregivers for their children (236 girls) aged 5.5 to 18 years (mean [M] = 11.50, standard deviation [SD] = 3.65). Caregivers prov

Testing the effects of group-affirmation in active conflict: Ukrainians' trust toward Russia.

How can states with a history of recent armed conflict trust one another? Political psychology offers two competing approaches to increase trust between the publics of different countries: appealing to an overarching, common identity above the national level vs. affirming a sense of national identity. This study aims to examine the scope conditions of group-affirmation effects on trust in active conflicts by testing which group-affirmation approach increases trust towards Russia among the Ukrainian public. Distrust between Ukraine and Russia aggravates security fears and limits hope for a mean

Can trust in healthcare be restored after armed violence? Evidence from a randomized field experiment in north-eastern Nigeria.

Armed violence undermines public health not only by destroying infrastructure but also by eroding trust in government institutions, including the health system. Prior research shows that victimized individuals often withdraw from public health services, with particularly adverse consequences for child health. Whether such distrust can be restored, however, remains an open question. We address this question in northeastern Nigeria, a region heavily affected by armed violence, through a randomized field experiment embedded in a representative household survey of caregivers of young children (n =

[Evidences able to create future].

. Evidences able to create future. The text reflects on Gaza as a historical breaking point, a place where the collapse of political responsibility and the silence of states threaten the very idea of human civilization. The voices of those who resist dehumanization and demand dignity, even when official powers remain indifferent, must be preserved. A perspective inspired by a war correspondent who witnessed the unending, pervasive inhumanity of Gaza from within is proposed. Her words call for transforming compassion into responsibility, rejecting passive pity, and confronting the viewer with t

"No one wants you back, you will stay here forever": Exploring the story of the Israeli children who were held in captivity by Hamas.

BACKGROUND: Recent armed conflicts around the world have highlighted that child abduction and hostage-taking are pervasive, and of high concern for child rights, child development, and well-being. Little research exists on child hostages in specific conflict contexts. OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to examine child hostage stories conveyed by the Israeli children who were released from captivity in Gaza, post the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel. Child hostage stories, as published in Israeli media, were based on recorded interviews with the children. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING:
