Forecasting monthly hepatitis B cases in China: a nationwide comparative study based on surveillance data.

BACKGROUND: Robust forecasting of hepatitis B trends is important for long-term surveillance and public health planning in China. However, evidence remains limited regarding how different forecasting frameworks perform when applied to a long-term national hepatitis B surveillance series under a unified out-of-sample evaluation design. METHODS: Monthly reported hepatitis B cases in China from January 2004 to December 2024 were obtained from national public surveillance databases. Data from January 2004 to December 2023 were used as the training set, whereas data from January to December 2024 w

Optimizing machine learning-based diagnosis of neurosyphilis in HIV-negative patients: a multicenter, real-world comparison of international diagnostic criteria.

Neurosyphilis continues to rise globally, yet diagnosis remains challenging, often requiring multidisciplinary expertise and multiple CSF assays that are difficult to access in resource-limited settings. We developed and compared machine-learning (ML) models tailored to six international diagnostic guidelines and built a free, web-based tool for guideline-adapted decision support. We assembled 1,648 suspected neurosyphilis cases from four centers, using Guangzhou as the training cohort and Beijing, Xiamen (China) and Seattle (USA) as external validation cohorts. Five algorithms (Random Forest,

Parameterization and prediction of environment-dependent colloid transport in saturated porous media: A physics-informed machine learning approach.

Colloid transport in porous media exhibits pronounced variability under varying solution chemistry, hydrodynamic conditions, and pore structural characteristics. Conventional advection-dispersion models typically treat transport parameters as constants, which limits their predictive capability across variable environmental conditions. This study develops a physics-informed machine learning (ML) framework to parameterize and predict colloid transport under varying environmental conditions by deriving explicit expressions for key transport parameters. Built on 98 column-scale experimental record

Explainable AI-Enhanced Ensemble Protocol Using Gradient-Boosted Models for Zero-False-Alarm Seizure Detection from EEG.

Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide, yet automated seizure detection systems either achieve moderate sensitivity with excessive false alarms or rely on uninterpretable deep networks. This study presents a patient-independent EEG-based seizure detection framework that achieved zero false alarms in 24 h with 95% sensitivity in a retrospective evaluation on a CHB-MIT pediatric cohort (n = 6 seizure-positive patients). The pipeline extracts 27 time-, frequency-, and nonlinear-domain features from 5 s windows and trains five ensemble classifiers (XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM, Extra Tre

SV-MeCa: an XGBoost-based meta-caller approach for structural variant calling from short-read data.

BACKGROUND: Calling structural variants (SVs), i.e., genomic alterations of ≥50bp, from whole genome short-read data remains challenging, as existing callers are known to lack accuracy and robustness. Therefore, meta-caller approaches combining the results of multiple standalone tools in a consensus set of reported SV calls, are widely used. Here, SV-MeCa (Structural Variant Meta-Caller) is presented, the first SV meta-caller incorporating variant-specific quality metrics from individual VCF outputs, rather than relying solely on number and combination of tools supporting consensus SV calls. A transparent AI assurance and benchmarking framework for EEG seizure detection on TUSZ seeded with a reproducible gradient-boosting ensemble.

Reliable evaluation is essential for clinically usable automated electroencephalography (EEG) seizure detection. Although the TUH EEG Seizure Corpus (TUSZ) is the de facto benchmark, studies often use non-canonical splits, mix patients across partitions, or evaluate on seizure-only segments, making results hard to compare. We release an open-source, transparent benchmark for offline binary seizure detection on TUSZ v2.0.3 that strictly follows the official Train/Dev/Eval partition and evaluates in continuous EEG. Each 60-s window (15-s stride) is mapped to expert features and classified by thr
