A systematic review and meta-analysis of educational games for the intervention of school bullying.

Bullying harms learning and wellbeing, and schools increasingly use digital games as part of their response. This PRISMA-guided systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized 34 studies on educational games for school bullying and cyberbullying intervention. Ten randomized trials passed risk-of-bias screening; nine contributed continuous outcomes to the primary meta-analysis. The pooled effect was small and statistically significant (Hedges' g = 0.14, 95% CI [0.02, 0.26]) and remained stable across sensitivity analyses. Effects were observed at immediate post-intervention assessment and tende

Defender, Passive, and Pro-Bully: Exploring Bystanders' Intentions toward Cyberbullying.

Objective: The present study examines the usefulness of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) in explaining three distinct responses to cyberbullying among adolescents: defending, pro-bully, and passive intentions. A model was constructed to assess intentions, including control variables (gender, age, cyberbullying victimization, and perpetration experiences), social norms (family, friends, and teachers), attitude toward helping cyberbullying victims, perceived behavioral control, and empathy. Method: Data were collected from 2,539 students aged 11 to 18 years (M = 14.07, SD = 1.39) across eigh

Bullying Victimization and Complex Trauma: A Systematic Review of CPTSD and DTD Symptoms.

A meta-analysis published in 2015 demonstrated a significant association between bullying victimization (BV) in school and workplace settings and the onset of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. However, a recent theoretical review showed that the consequences of BV are much more complex than the traditional PTSD criteria. The authors argue that two potential diagnoses ought to be considered in the context of BV: developmental trauma disorder (DTD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). This systematic review aims to synthesize the results regarding the relationship be

Bullying experiences of youth with neuromuscular disorders and their well-being: A survey study.

PURPOSE: Bullying is a widespread problem in Canada and throughout the world. Children and youth with chronic illnesses or physical disabilities are more likely to be targets of bullying of all kinds. However, there is a paucity of research about bullying involving youth with neuromuscular disorders. The study aimed to assess the prevalence of bullying in youth with neuromuscular disorders and how bullying rates impact their quality of life and well-being. METHODS: An online survey was administered at a single timepoint to youth with a neuromuscular disorder. The survey captured data about de

Meta-analysis of the relationship between bullying and depressive symptoms in children and adolescents.

Childhood and adolescence are critical periods for physical and mental development; thus, they are high-risk periods for the occurrence of mental disorders. The purpose of this study was to systematically evaluate the association between bullying and depressive symptoms in children and adolescents. We searched the PubMed, MEDLINE and other databases to identify studies related to bullying behavior and depressive symptoms in children and adolescents. A total of 31 studies were included, with a total sample size of 133,688 people. The results of the meta-analysis showed that the risk of depressi

[School bullying and group violence: How to occupy a place in the group by exclusion].

The prevalence of school bullying (a deliberate, repeated act of verbal, physical or relational/social aggression occurring in a situation of inequality, including cyberbullying) is high in France (10 %) as well as in other countries like the United States (more than 40 % of school children have experienced harassment at some point in their school cursus). This frequency varies by country, source of observation, school, class, and age of children. Self-questionnaires where children have to self-identify as harassing or being harassed involve a clear bias of underevaluation (even for harassed c

Bullying among medical and nonmedical students at a university in Eastern Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Many medical students, junior doctors, and other health-care professionals have been affected by the negative experience of bullying. Research is scarce on bullying experienced by medical and nonmedical students in Saudi Arabia unlike what is found in Western countries. It is unclear whether being a nonmedical student modifies the risk of being bullied. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study included 400 university students using convenient sampling. The sample comprised 295 students who responded and were stratified into medical (n = 176) and nonmedical (n = 119) groups.

Differences in the early stages of social information processing for adolescents involved in bullying.

Bullying victimization has commonly been associated with deficiencies in social information processing (SIP). In contrast, findings regarding bullying perpetration are mixed, with some researchers claiming that bullies may have superior SIP abilities than victimized or uninvolved youth. This study investigated the effects of bullying and victimization on early SIP; specifically the recognition and interpretation of social information. In stage 1, 2,782 adolescents (11-16 years) were screened for bullying involvement, and in stage 2, 723 of these participants (mean age = 13.95) were assessed on

Bullying victimisation and paranoid ideation in people at ultra high risk for psychosis.

BACKGROUND: Bullying victimisation has been suggested to contribute to paranoid ideation in general population samples and recent evidence found that individuals with an ultra high risk (UHR) for psychosis are twice as likely to have been bullied than controls. AIMS: This study sought to examine whether a history of bullying would be associated with higher levels of paranoid ideation in individuals with an UHR and in healthy controls (HCs). METHOD: The study included 64 UHR and 43 HC participants. Following the baseline assessment, participants entered a Virtual Reality (VR) London Undergrou

Bullies at work: the impact of horizontal hostility in the hospital setting and intent to leave.

The phenomenon of bullying or peer incivility in nursing is not new or confined to nurses. Behaviors consistent with horizontal hostility (HH) range from overt behavioral manifestations such as infighting among nurses; sabotage (where pertinent information is intentionally withheld); passive-aggressive behavior; eye rolling in response to a question; or verbal remarks that are snide, rude, and demeaning, to more covert behaviors including failure to respect confidences and privacy. Horizontal hostility can lead to profound and long-lasting effects, including diminished productivity and increas
