Leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV), also known as hypersensitivity vasculitis is a small vessel inflammatory disease which mainly involves the postcapillary venules. A 17-year-old girl developed palpable purpura over lower limbs and acute allergic interstitial nephritis 5 days after exposure to ceftriaxone. An 80-yr-old man developed acute hepatitis shortly after ingesting oral ceftriaxone. Although the transaminases gradually returned to baseline after withholding the beta lactam antibiotic, there was a gradual increase in serum bilirubin and a decrease in hemoglobin concentration caused by an autoimmune hemolytic anemia and erythroblastocytopenia. These responded to systemic steroids and immunoglobulins. Despite the widespread use of these agents this triad of side effects has not previously been reported in connection with beta lactam antibiotics.

OBJECTIVES: To establish testing and treatment recommendations for a ceftriaxone once-daily dose regimen for systemic infections with Cutibacterium acnes.
METHODS: A review of the literature and a retrospective evaluation of patients diagnosed with C. acnes spondylodiscitis and treated with ceftriaxone were performed. A 78-year-old man had been undergoing treatment with Cefamezin for pyogenic spondylitis.
