PURPOSE: Septic shock is associated with a mortality of 20-40%. The white blood cell count (WBC) at hospital admission correlates with prognosis in septic shock. Here, we explore whether the trajectory of WBC after admission provides further information about outcomes. Pregnancy in essential thrombocythemia (ET) is associated with increased risk of obstetric complications. We retrospectively evaluated risk factors in 121 pregnancies in 52 ET women seen at 3 affiliate hospitals. Univariable and multivariable analyses were performed at the α = 0.10 level. Cell counts were characterized throughout pregnancy and correlated with outcomes using logistic modeling. We describe a case of a patient presenting with HIV and paracoccidioidomycosis co-infection. At the time of diagnosis total CD4+ T-cell count was 4 cells/mm3. Histopathology revealed tuberculoid granulomas, scarce CD4+ T cells, a moderate number of CD8+ cells and the absence of Foxp3+ cells. Most of the cutaneous lesions healed after two weeks of treatment with amphotericin B. After 14 months the patient is still under antiretroviral therapy and no clinical evidence of recurrence of the mycosis has been observed.

In this retrospective study, quantitative Sézary cell counts were performed at presentation on 192 patients with erythrodermic cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (E-CTCL). Per recommendation of the International Society of Cutaneous Lymphomas (ISCL), the impact on staging of using an absolute Sézary cell count of 1.0 K microL-1 or more as equivalent to lymph node involvement was investigated.
