To compare the affinity to lectin of human chorionic gonadotropins (hCG) from pregnant women and trophoblastic tumour patients, a small amount of urine was fractionated by a lentil lectin (LcH) affinity chromatography. The LcH-bound fractions were eluted with 2% mannoside solution, and each fraction was assayed for hCG activities by radioimmunoassay. A reaginic antibody has been demonstrated, by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA), in the serum of a cat infected with the microfilariae of Brugia pahangi. Recipient cats and pigs were challenged with an extract of Ascaris suum after either a four-hour or a 72-hour period of sensitisation. Hexosaminidase (Hex) C could be detected in human brains by DEAE cellulose column chromatography, when N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activity was determined at pH 5.5.
