Silicon dioxide, sodium selenite and citric acid vaginal gel, HPV infection, and cervical preinvasive disease: a narrative review.

Cervical cancer continues to be a major public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. It is mainly caused by persistent infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). Screening has been the most effective strategy to reduce mortality, but over the last 2 decades, vaccination has emerged as an important adjunct, helping to decrease incidence and mortality. Given the natural history of HPV infection, most low-grade lesions will spontaneously resolve over time; therefore, observation is the preferred approach for low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions. Some authors have

Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, and Citric Acid Food Preservatives Trigger Apoptosis in the Male Reproductive System of Rats.

The safety of food additives has received significant attention. While individual additives used within specified limits are considered safe, examining the effects of food additives is essential, especially when they are ingested in combination or when consumption exceeds acceptable daily intake levels. In this study, the effects of three common food preservatives-sodium benzoate (SB), potassium sorbate (PS), and citric (Cit) acid-on biochemical markers and histopathology of the male reproductive system were evaluated. Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats received the no observed adverse effect

Unlocking the full potential of citric acid-synthesized carbon dots as a supercapacitor electrode material via surface functionalization.

This research paper investigates the effect of functionalizing the surfaces of citric acid-synthesized carbon dots (CDs) with hyperbranched bis(methylol)propionic acid (bis-MPA) polyester hydroxyl polymers (HBPs) on their performance as electrode materials in a supercapacitor. Two types of HBPs with 16 and 64 peripheral hydroxyl groups were used to functionalize the CDs' oxygen-enriched surface. Here, CDs were used as electrode materials for the first time in symmetric supercapacitors without a composite material, and how surface modification affects the capacitance performance of CDs was inve

Adsorption of Pb(II) and Pb(II)-citric acid on sawdust activated carbon: Kinetic and equilibrium isotherm studies.

The removal of Pb(II) and Pb(II)-citric acid (Pb(II)-CA) from aqueous solutions by sawdust activated carbon (SDAC) was investigated. The higher adsorptive removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solutions containing Pb(II)-CA than Pb(II) only was observed due to the presence of CA in the former system. The mechanism of adsorption process was studied by conducting pH as well as kinetic studies. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to study the effect of adsorbent dose, initial concentration and temperature for the removal of Pb(II) from Pb(II) only and Pb(II)-CA aqueous systems. The adsorption wa

Polyvinyl Alcohol/Lignin Composite Films Crosslinked with Citric Acid: Physicochemical Properties and Anti-Adhesive Activity Against Staphylococcus aureus.

Antibiotic-resistant infections, particularly in hospital settings, are increasingly associated with biofilm formation on biomedical devices. An effective strategy to address this problem is the development of biopolymeric films with antibacterial and anti-adhesive properties. In this work, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer, was composited with lignin (LG), a biomass-derived polymer, and crosslinked with citric acid (CA) to obtain PVA-LG/CA gels/films. Materials were prepared with fixed PVA content (10% w/v) and varying LG (6.6 and 10% w/v) and CA (1-4% w/v) contents.

Cordierite and citric acid regulate crystal structure of manganese oxide for effective selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide.

Catalyst is the key to effective selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide, and developing catalyst is always one of the hottest topics in both field of industry and academy. In order to realize an industrial application, one catalyst must grow on a specific support. However, seldom work compared the difference of catalyst growth with or without support. In this work, Mn2+ growth on cordierite (a typical commercial catalyst support) was investigated. The formed active species were detailedly characterized. As a result, orthorhombic cordierite guided Mn2+ to form orthorhombic oxide (γ-MnO

Phytase, citric acid, and 1alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol improve phytate phosphorus utilization in chicks fed a corn-soybean meal diet.

Previous research from our laboratory has shown that phytase, citric acid, and 1alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol [1alpha-(OH) D3] individually improve phytate P use in young chicks fed a P-deficient corn-soybean meal (C-SBM) diet. The current study was conducted to evaluate combinations of these additives on phytate P utilization. In 3 chick experiments, male crossbred chicks (New Hampshire x Columbian) were fed experimental diets from 8 to 21 d of age. The C-SBM basal diet used in all assays contained no supplemental P and was calculated to provide 23% CP, 0.13% nonphytate P (0.39% total P), 0.62

Sodium metabisulfite and citric acid induce bronchoconstriction via a sulfite-sensitive pathway in the isolated guinea pig lung.

Inhalation of sodium metabisulfite (MBS; 80 mM; pH 2.9 +/- 0.1) or citric acid (CA; 0.4 M; pH 2.0 +/- 0.1) aerosols induced a reduction in compliance and conductance in the isolated perfused and ventilated guinea pig lung without affecting perfusion flow. The effect was dependent on the pH of the nebulized solution since inhalation of 80 mM MBS aerosols at pH 7.4 did not induce any effect on bronchial tone. Concomitantly to the bronchoconstriction induced by MBS or CA an increased level of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP-LI) in the effluent perfusate was observed, indicating activation o

Citric Acid and Poly-glutamic Acid Promote the Phytoextraction of Cadmium and Lead in Solanum nigrum L. Grown in Compound Cd-Pb Contaminated Soils.

Phytoextraction is an efficient strategy for remediating heavy metal-contaminated soil. Chelators can improve the bioavailability of heavy metals and increase phytoextraction efficiency. However, traditional chelators have gradually been replaced due to secondary pollution. In this study, a typical organic acid (citric acid, CA) and a novel biodegradable chelator (poly-glutamic acid, PGA), were investigated using pot experiments to compare the phytoextraction efficiency of Solanum nigrum L. (a Cd (hyper)accumulator) for cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in contaminated soil. The results showed CA and

Identification of reaction products between drug substances and excipients by HPLC-SPE-NMR: ester and amide formation between citric acid and 5-aminosalicylic acid.

The reaction between the high-dose drug substance 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) and the excipient citric acid during storage of an experimental enema preparation has been studied and three isobaric reaction products, i.e., an ester and an amide with non-symmetrically substituted citric acid moieties and a symmetrical amide, were identified by combined use of HPLC-SPE-NMR and HPLC-MS. After storage for 1 week at 70 degrees C, approximately 5% of the 5-ASA present in the formulation was transformed into these impurities. Storage of the enema for 32 months at room temperature led to loss of appro

Synthesis of nitrogen-doped citric acid carbon dots and their applications in chitosan-based antimicrobial coatings for blueberry preservation.

Carbon dots (CDs) used in antimicrobial coatings for postharvest fruit preservation are often limited by insufficient surface functional groups, which can be enhanced by heteroatom doping. In this study, nitrogen-doped citric acid carbon dots (NCA-CDs) were synthesized via a hydrothermal method and incorporated into a chitosan-based coating for blueberry preservation. The NCA-CDs exhibited uniform spherical morphology (1.86 ± 0.23 nm) with abundant functional groups (-OH, -COOH, -NH), conferring excellent bioactivity. The NCA-CDs/CS film showed a DPPH· radical scavenging rate of 81.62 ± 0.23%

Bifunctional carbon dots based on L-aminopropanol and citric acid: For rapid detection of chlortetracycline and ethanol anti-counterfeiting.

Food and environmental safety concerns arising from chlortetracycline (CTC) residues, together with the frequent adulteration of ethanol fuel, have increased the demand for rapid detection and anti-counterfeiting strategies. The development of functional materials capable of both antibiotic recognition and solvent differentiation is therefore of great interest for convenient monitoring in related fields. In this work, blue-emissive carbon dots (B-CDs) were synthesized via a one-step hydrothermal method using L-aminopropanol and citric acid as precursors. The as-prepared B-CDs exhibit stable an
