Gonorrhea cluster detection in Manitoba, Canada: Spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal analysis.

In Canada, Gonorrhea infection ranks as the second most prevalent sexually transmitted infection. In 2018, Manitoba reported an incidence rate three times greater than the national average. This study aims to investigate the spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal patterns of Gonorrhea infection in Manitoba, using individual-level laboratory-confirmed administrative data provided by Manitoba Health from 2000 to 2016. Age and sex patterns indicate that females are affected by infections at younger ages compared to males. Moreover, there is an increase in repeated infections in 2016, accounting f

Personality and gender prototypes for predicting health: a multilevel and cluster analysis.

Prior studies have identified that mentally healthy people tend to share common characteristics and common ways of coping with stressful life events; they show similar patterns of behavior and more flexible and adaptive social roles. The objectives of the study are to assess the influence of personality factors on gender roles and mental health, to identify personality patterns along with gender roles, and to assess the influence of the patterns identified on mental health. Data collection from a sample of 795 university students was carried out during 2019. Multilevel analyses tested the asso

Multimorbidity in Heart Failure: Leveraging Cluster Analysis to Guide Tailored Treatment Strategies.

REVIEW PURPOSE: This review summarises key findings on treatment effects within phenotypical clusters of patients with heart failure (HF), making a distinction between patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). FINDINGS: Treatment response differed among clusters; ACE inhibitors were beneficial in all HFrEF phenotypes, while only some studies show similar beneficial prognostic effects in HFpEF patients. Beta-blockers had favourable effects in all HFrEF patients but not in HFpEF phenotypes and tended to worsen prognosis in older, cardiorenal patien

Cluster analysis of transcriptomic datasets to identify endotypes of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

BACKGROUND: Considerable clinical heterogeneity in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) suggests the existence of multiple disease endotypes. Identifying these endotypes would improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of IPF and could allow for a biomarker-driven personalised medicine approach. We aimed to identify clinically distinct groups of patients with IPF that could represent distinct disease endotypes. METHODS: We co-normalised, pooled and clustered three publicly available blood transcriptomic datasets (total 220 IPF cases). We compared clinical traits across clusters and used gen

Comparative analysis of the Colistin resistance-regulating gene cluster in Klebsiella species.

CrrAB two-component regulatory system is associated with colistin resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae. Recently, some K. pneumoniae isolates lacking crrAB genes have been identified. In this study, we investigated the distribution and structural variation of the crrBAC-kexD cluster. To evaluate the structural variation of the crrBAC-kexD cluster, we explored 59 clinical K. pneumoniae isolates from Korea, and 508 whole genomes of K. pneumoniae and other strains of Klebsiella sp. Significant structural variations in crrBAC-kexD and its surrounding regions were identified among K. pneumoniae geno

Classification of atopic dermatitis phenotypes according to allergic sensitization by cluster analysis.

A cluster study to classify atopic dermatitis (AD) phenotypes into subgroups is required to better understand and manage the disease owing to the heterogeneity of its clinical features. This study aimed to identify the phenotypic subgroups of childhood AD according to allergic sensitization. In 258 children with AD, hierarchical cluster analysis based on specific immunoglobulin (Ig) E sensitization revealed four distinct clusters. Cluster A (n = 71) revealed no IgE sensitization, whereas cluster B (n = 28) showed sensitization to egg white only. Cluster B was highly associated with early-onset

Food Addiction in Eating Disorders: A Cluster Analysis Approach and Treatment Outcome.

BACKGROUND: A first approach of a phenotypic characterization of food addiction (FA) found three clusters (dysfunctional, moderate and functional). Based on this previous classification, the aim of the present study is to explore treatment responses in the sample diagnosed with Eating Disorder(ED) of different FA profiles. METHODS: The sample was composed of 157 ED patients with FA positive, 90 with bulimia nervosa (BN), 36 with binge eating disorder (BED), and 31 with other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED). Different clinical variables and outcome indicators were evaluated. RES

Motor and psychiatric features in idiopathic blepharospasm: A data-driven cluster analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic blepharospasm is a clinically heterogeneous dystonia also characterized by non motor symptoms. METHODS: We used a k-means cluster analysis to assess 188 patients with idiopathic blepharospasm in order to identify relatively homogeneous subpopulations of patients, using a set of motor and psychiatric variables to generate the cluster solution. RESULTS: Blepharospasm patients reached higher scores on scales assessing depressive- and anxiety-related disorders than healthy/disease controls. Cluster analysis suggested the existence of three groups of patients that differe

Identification of knee osteoarthritis disability phenotypes regarding activity limitation: a cluster analysis.

BACKGROUND: Studies have reported the subtypes of individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA) attempting to cluster this heterogonous condition. Activity limitations are commonly used to set goals in knee OA management and better identify subgroups based on level of disability in this patient population. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify those activity limitations which could classify the disability phenotypes of knee OA. The phenotypes were also validated by comparing impairments and participation restrictions. METHODS: Participants comprised individuals with symptomatic k

Hierarchical Cluster Analysis of Semicircular Canal and Otolith Deficits in Bilateral Vestibulopathy.

BACKGROUND: Gait imbalance and oscillopsia are frequent complaints of bilateral vestibular loss (BLV). Video-head-impulse testing (vHIT) of all six semicircular canals (SCCs) has demonstrated varying involvement of the different canals. Sparing of anterior-canal function has been linked to aminoglycoside-related vestibulopathy and Menière's disease. We hypothesized that utricular and saccular impairment [assessed by vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs)] may be disease-specific also, possibly facilitating the differential diagnosis. METHODS: We searched our vHIT database (n = 3,271) f

Cluster analysis describes constellations of cardiac anomalies presenting in spinal anomaly patients.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac anomalies are prevalent in patients with bony spinal anomalies. Prior studies evaluating incidences of bony congenital anomalies of the spine are limited. The Kids' Inpatient Database (KID) yields national discharge estimates of rare pediatric conditions like congenital disorders. This study utilized cluster analysis to study patterns of concurrent vertebral anomalies, anal atresia, cardiac malformations, trachea-esophageal fistula, renal dysplasia, and limb anomalies (VACTERL anomalies) co-occurring in patients with spinal congenital anomalies. METHODS: Retrospective revi

Analysis of Asperger Syndrome Using Genetic-Evolutionary Random Support Vector Machine Cluster.

Asperger syndrome (AS) is subtype of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Diagnosis and pathological analysis of AS through resting-state fMRI data is one of the hot topics in brain science. We employed a new model called the genetic-evolutionary random Support Vector Machine cluster (GE-RSVMC) to classify AS and normal people, and search for lesions. The model innovatively integrates the methods of the cluster and genetic evolution to improve the performance of the model. We randomly selected samples and sample features to construct GE-RSVMC, and then used the cluster to classify and extract lesio
