This research is aimed at analyzing existing plugging compositions and developing a new plugging composition based on phenol-formaldehyde resin. This paper presents the results of studies of a hardening composition based on phenol-formaldehyde resin for repair and insulation work in wells. The plugging composition consists of two parts: Component "A" (resin and additives) and Component "B" (hardener). A resol-type water-soluble phenol-formaldehyde resin was selected for testing. The resin was additionally modified with special additives to improve performance properties. A mixture of acids was

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of temporary cementation and subsequent bonding on the durability during in-vitro aging-simulation and fracture force of resin-based composite crowns.
METHODS: Identical molar crowns (n=48, n=8 per group) were milled from resin-based composites and temporarily cemented and finally bonded to human molars. To simulate temporary application, crowns were cemented either with zinc-oxide-eugenol-cement (Tempbond) or with eugenol free zinc-oxide-cement (Tempbond NE). For a first simulation of a long-term provisional clinical application, thermal cycling, and mec

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the marginal microleakage of Activa Kids BioActive-Restorative used with an adhesive bonding agent (AB+) and compare it with the microleakage of a traditional composite resin (CR), a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), and Activa Kids BioActive-Restorative placed without the use of an adhesive bonding agent (AB-). Standard Class I cavities were prepared in 200 extracted, caries-free permanent molars, which were then restored with 1 of the 4 restorative materials (n = 50 each). The restored teeth were thermocycled for 500 cycles, alte

In recent years, dental resin materials have become increasingly popular for cavity filling. However, these materials can shrink during polymerization, leading to microleakages that enable bacteria to erode tooth tissue and cause secondary caries. As a result, there is great clinical demand for the development of antibacterial resins. The principle of antibacterial resin includes contact killing and filler-release killing of bacteria. For contact killing, quaternary ammonium salts (QACs) and antibacterial peptides (AMPs) can be added. For filler-release killing, chlorhexidine (CHX) and nanopar

BACKGROUND: Traditionally, amalgam has been used for filling cavities in posterior teeth, and it continues to be the restorative material of choice in some low- and middle-income countries due to its effectiveness and relatively low cost. However, there are concerns over the use of amalgam restorations (fillings) with regard to mercury release in the body and the environmental impact of mercury disposal. Dental composite resin materials are an aesthetic alternative to amalgam, and their mechanical properties have developed sufficiently to make them suitable for restoring posterior teeth. Never

The loss of anterior teeth can be painful for patients, both psychologically and socially. In recent years, fiber-reinforced composite resins (FRCs) have gained increasing acceptance in mainstream prosthodontics as viable alternatives to alloy-based restorations. A combination of good esthetics and fracture toughness validates their use in a diverse range of clinical applications. In this study, a bridge was constructed with hybrid composite resin placed around a resin-impregnated, plasma-etched, polyalkene fiber bonded to the abutment tooth enamel using the acid-etch technique. This method of

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis, derived from a previous short-term (7-day) assessment, that the absence of conventional pulp protection is not responsible for long-term pulp complications of composite resin restorations with self-etching adhesives.
METHODS: All 150 patients who received the restorations with self-etching adhesives were recalled at least 2 years after the placement of restorations. Of the 47 patients (31%) who responded, 106 restorations aged from 2.2 to 6.5 years were examined for tooth sensitivity and pulp vitality regarding long-term pulp complications. The results were

Clinicians are increasingly being called on to satisfy the restorative demands of patients who request tooth-colored restorations but are unable to afford an optimum indirect restorative option. Consequently, in clinical practice, the limits of the direct posterior resin composite technique are being stretched. There is a need for techniques that will satisfy the complex variables of clinical practice and allow for successful utilization of posterior resin composite in large cavity preparations. The objective of this article is to explain the rationale behind the materials and techniques invol

Light-cured opaque resins were prepared using four types of monomer liquids and titanium dioxide powder. This study investigated the relationship between the monomer composition and the physical properties of light-cured opaque resin. Depth of cure, KHN, residual monomer eluent, and bond strength between the opaque resin and cobalt-chromium alloy were measured. The physical properties of triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA)-based compositions were superior to those of methyl methacrylate (MMA)-based compositions. Viscosity of the opaque resin's liquid monomer was enhanced by 1,6-bis(metha

A light-cured opaque resin was prepared with 4-(2-methacryloxyethoxycarbonyl) phthalic anhydride (4-META), bifunctional methacrylates, and titanium dioxide (TiO2). The relation between monomer composition and bond strength was examined with seven methacrylate monomers. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) was useful as a solvent of 4-META. However, it was not sufficiently cured by photo-initiator. The bond strength of a triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA)-based composition was superior to other monomer-based compositions after repeated thermocycles. 1,6-bis(methacryloxy-2-ethoxycarbonyl-amino)-2,4,

Background Color stability is a critical property for the long-term success of aesthetic composite restorations. Recently introduced single-shade composite resins, such as Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental, Tokyo, Japan) and Vittra APS Unique (FGM Dental Group, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil), exhibit a chameleon effect that enhances shade matching. However, their resistance to staining from commonly consumed beverages remains inadequately explored. Aim The aim of this in vitro study was to comparatively evaluate the effect of different commonly consumed beverages on the color stability of two si

To evaluate the degree of conversion (DC), surface hardness (SH), and flexural strength (FS) of resin-based core build-up materials. Core build-up materials used were: MultiCore Flow (MCF); Activa (ACT); Core-X Flow (CXF); and everX flow (EVX), and DC, SH and FS were measured. An increase of DC was identified for all materials post-cure, except for EVX. The DC change percentage ranged from 5%-33%, and EVX was displayed the greatest DC rate. All materials displayed an SH increase after 30 days and the greatest increase was observed in ACT. At 1 h, the SH of EVX and CXF was different from the ot
