Curcumin, a yellow pigment in the Indian spice Turmeric (Curcuma longa), which is chemically known as diferuloylmethane, was first isolated exactly two centuries ago in 1815 by two German Scientists, Vogel and Pelletier. However, according to the pubmed database, the first study on its biological activity as an antibacterial agent was published in 1949 in Nature and the first clinical trial was reported in The Lancet in 1937. Although the current database indicates almost 9000 publications on curcumin, until 1990 there were less than 100 papers published on this nutraceutical. At the molecular

Melanoma is known as the most common malignant cutaneous cancer. Curcumin, a natural component, has been shown to have various activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, anti-biotic, anti-amyloid and anti-thrombosis. However, there is a greatest obstacle in the administration of curcumin due to its hydrophobicity and low oral bioavailability. In this study, we formulated curcumin-loaded MPEG-PLA (Curcumin/MPEG-PLA) micelles aiming to improve its solubility in aqueous solution and investigated anti-tumor effect on melanoma in vitro and in vivo. The spherical curcumin/MPEG-

AIM: Exosomes, the nano-units (<200 nm), released from diverse cell types in the extracellular body fluid, possess non-immunogenic property and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Since exosomes carry biological information from their cells of origin, we hypothesize that priming cells with potential therapeutic agents release improved cellular contents through exosomes. Curcumin possesses anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties and provides a promising treatment for cerebral diseases and therefore, the aim of the study is to establish that mouse brain endothelial cells (MBE

Obesity is characterized as an increased BMI, which is associated with the increased risk of several common cancers, including colorectal, breast, endometrial, renal, esophageal, gallbladder, melanoma, multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma and prostate cancer. The increased risk of obesity-related cancers could be mediated by insulin resistance, adipokines, obesity-related inflammatory cytokines, sex hormones, transcription factors and oxidative stress, which disrupt the balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis. The yellowish compound, curcumin (diferuloylmethane), is known to possess m

Curcumin (1,7-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,6-heptadiene-3,5-dione, Cm) is a natural compound which possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor ability. Here, phospholipid vesicles or lipid-nanospheres embedding Cm (CmVe or CmLn) were formulated to deliver Cm into tissue macrophages through intravenous injection. Cm could be solubilized in hydrophobic regions of these particles to form nanoparticle dispersions, and these formulations showed ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species as antioxidants in dispersions. At 6h after intravenous injection in rats via the tail vein (2mg

In vivo antioxidative effects of curcumin were investigated using a trichloroethylene (TCE)-induced oxidative stress model in mouse liver. Increases in the contents of peroxisome and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and decreases in GSH content of mouse liver by the TCE administration were suppressed by the pre-administration of curcumin. TCE-induced changes in the activities of antioxidative enzyme, such as Cu/Zn-SOD, catalase, glutathione reductase. glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and D-glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), were also diminished by curcumin. These results indi

Forensic identification of latent fingerprints and bloodstains is fundamental to criminal investigations, yet conventional methods often suffer from high toxicity, low sensitivity, and substrate dependency. This study aims to address these limitations by developing a novel, biocompatible, dual-function nanosuspension formulation. The nanosuspension was synthesized using the ionic gelation method, crosslinking curcumin and Dragon's blood resin within a chitosan nanoparticle matrix using sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP). Formulation optimization was systematically performed using a Box-Behnken Desi
