We report the case of a 31-year-old woman who presented with epigastric pain and weight loss. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a submucosal mass in the distal antrum and pylorus. Endoscopic biopsy of the mass was nondiagnostic. A CT scan confirmed a 3.0-cm mass in the posterior wall of the distal antrum. She underwent laparoscopic resection of the distal antrum and pylorus with end-to-end gastroduodenostomy. Pathologic examination showed an adenomyoma of the antrum and pylorus. BACKGROUND: Traumatic duodenal injuries in children are rare, and few studies have documented duodenal injuries in children, especially in Australasia. This study assessed the mechanism, investigations, management and outcomes of children (aged <16 years) with duodenal injuries.

We present the case of a premature baby who was born with the following conditions: an extensive atresia from the first part of the duodenum to the mid small bowel; malrotation of the distal part, in volvulus and in an "apple peel" configuration; no connection of the bile ducts to the bowel; and presence of a type II choledochal cyst. To our knowledge, this is the first case in which a combination of these anomalies is reported. A brief review of the relevant literature is also presented.

BACKGROUND: A survey on the practice of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery in pediatric surgical departments in Germany is presented.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to all 71 pediatric surgical departments in Germany (population 82 million). Fifty institutions (70%) took part in the survey that mainly included data for the year 2004: spectrum of minimally invasive operations, quantity of procedures, conversions, major complications, number of performing surgeons and residents.
