PURPOSE: This study investigated the usefulness of ultrasonography in medical examinations for detecting elbow injuries, especially capitellar osteochondritis dissecans, among young baseball players.
METHODS: Players with current or previous elbow joint pain were enrolled. Medical examinations (range of motion, tenderness, and stress tests) were performed with (2012-2016) or without (2007-2011) ultrasonography. Players with abnormal examination results were advised to undergo additional examinations at a local orthopedic clinic. Differences in the rates of capitellar osteochondritis dissecans

BACKGROUND: Supracondylar humerus fractures are very common in pediatric populations. In cases of dislocated fractures, closed reduction and percutaneous K‑wire fixation is recommended. Initially, 10-16 % of the patients also present lesion of the ulnar nerve as well as median nerve palsy in 6.4% and radial nerve palsy in 2.6 % of cases, respectively.
METHOD: We present the case of a 10-year-old boy with a dislocation of the elbow and fracture of the medial epicondyle. After closed reduction and K‑wire fixation from medial, he presents a median nerve palsy. That a lesion of the ulnar nerve is

PURPOSE: Radiographic arthrosis is a common sequela of elbow trauma. Few studies have addressed risk factors for radiographic arthrosis after elbow injury, especially in the long term. Data from multiple long-term follow-up studies of patients with surgically treated elbow fractures provided us with an opportunity to assess risk factors for long-term radiographic arthrosis after elbow injury.
METHODS: During a 5-year period, we obtained radiographs during a research-specific evaluation of 139 patients (81 men and 58 women) 10 or more years (median, 19.5 y; range, 10-34 y) after surgical treat

BACKGROUND: Clinical aspects, such as the long-term results after circular external fixation and functional rehabilitation after high-energy injuries of the elbow joint, have not received sufficient attention in the literature.
METHODS: Fourteen patients with high-energy elbow injuries were treated in our hospital over the last 15 years with a circular external fixation frame. The mechanism of injury was blast in eight patients, gunshot wounds in two, motor vehicle crash in two, and fall from height in two. Twelve patients had high-energy open periarticular fractures, nine had Gustillo-Anders

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: With an increase in single-sport specialization, elbow injuries have become increasingly common in the pediatric and adolescent population. Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the capitellum frequently requires intervention yet can be difficult to treat given high patient activity demands. The purpose of this paper is to review treatment options, understand failure rates, and provide strategies for successful revision surgery.
RECENT FINDINGS: Patients at high risk for the development of this condition are involved in high-demand upper extremity activity such as baseball or

BACKGROUND: Sideswipe injuries of elbow often poses significant functional loss resulting from devastating injuries involving osseoligamentous structures as well as multilevel soft tissue injuries around the elbow. Inspite of treatment, no conscientious treatment opinion is available in the literature to provide optimum functional outcome. The objective of this study is to evaluate the results of prosthetic replacement of old healed sideswipe injuries of elbow with gross dysfunctional disabilities resulting from loss of bones and muscles around the joint.

OBJECTIVES: To compare physical impairments and patient-reported outcomes in patients after simple and complex elbow injuries who were treated with radial head arthroplasty.
DESIGN: Prospective.
SETTING: Quaternary upper extremity referral hospital.
PATIENTS/PARTICIPANTS: 148 patients with isolated elbow trauma and no previous injury to the elbow were prospectively enrolled after radial head arthroplasty for an acute unreconstructable fracture. Injury patterns were classified as simple or complex based on the presence or absence of associated elbow fractures and/or dislocation.

In children, traumatic elbow dislocations usually occur after the epiphysis has closed and with associated radial head and neck fractures and osteochondral fragments. The fragments are also usually interposed in the joint restricting complete congruent joint motion. We report on 3 children with traumatic elbow fracture-dislocation with associated radial head and neck injuries treated with open reduction and stabilisation. All patients achieved good outcomes and returned to pre-injury level of activities.

Overuse injuries of the shoulder and elbow are common in the skeletally immature throwing athlete. This review goes beyond describing the classic imaging findings of Little League shoulder and elbow and probes deeper into new insights suggesting a unifying etiology of metaphyseal or metaphyseal equivalent injury as the cause of many of the bony lesions described. Injury patterns change depending on the athlete's skeletal maturation, and the spectrum of abnormalities is reviewed.

OBJECTIVE: Pediatric elbow trauma is challenging because of the complex nature of the growing skeleton. The objectives of this article are to review the anatomy and radiographic landmarks and to discuss common acute and chronic injuries sustained.
CONCLUSION: Radiographic evaluation of elbow trauma in the acute setting requires a firm understanding of developmental anatomy, radiographic landmarks, and the common injury patterns. Both radiography and MRI are vital tools for diagnosing chronic elbow overuse injuries in adolescent athletes.

Fractures and luxations with persistent instability of the elbow are severe injuries often followed by arthrofibrosis. The need for prolonged immobilization results in shortage of the ligaments and shrinking of the capsule. Treatment with dynamic hinged external fixation offers an option of protected early mobilization providing better results and avoiding stiffness and instability. In a retrospective study 22 patients with complex injuries of the elbow were evaluated with respect to the range of motion and subjective parameters (DASH score, DASH disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand).

Lateral compression injuries of the elbow typically occur in throwing athletes and gymnasts. In the preadolescent and adolescent patient, these injuries predominantly include Panner's disease and osteochondritis dissecans. Panner's disease, an osteochondrosis of the capitellum, is a rare disorder that usually affects the dominant extremity in individuals younger than age 10 years. Symptomatic management of Panner's disease consisting of reduction of stressful activities of the elbow is usually sufficient to allow resolution. Although a prolonged period is required for healing, most patients de
