Factors associated with employment success among youths with learning disabilities.

This follow-up study examines the employment success of young adults with learning and other mild disabilities. The study questioned the employee with disabilities, his or her parents, and the employer on a number of vocationally related items. A four-factor model is advanced to explain job success. The factors include job match and accommodation, social acceptance, work attitude, and special services. Participants in a total of 41 job situations were queried with 38 completed triads (employee with mild disability, employer, family). The method of constant comparative analysis was used to anal

Employment outcomes of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury.

PURPOSE: Vocational rehabilitation (VR) is important to maximize return-to-work (RTW) outcomes for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, long-term outcomes from early provision of such services are limited, including impact on rates of RTW and whether pre-injury hours and duties are achieved. Furthermore, factors contributing to successful RTW following VR provided early and embedded within the rehabilitation team have not been thoroughly examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: RTW outcome data were extracted from clinical records of patients employed pre-injury who completed a com

Scaling Up Evidence-Based Supported Employment in the United States.

Implementing evidence-based practices has become a standard policy in U.S. behavioral health care. However, current penetration remains inadequate, and longitudinal studies of scaling up these practices are rare. This article examined the steady, 3-decade growth of individual placement and support (IPS), the evidence-based model of employment services for people with psychiatric disabilities. The number of IPS programs in the United States has increased to >1,000. Nevertheless, coverage remains limited, and challenges to further growth are substantial. Facilitators of IPS growth over the past

Evidence-Based Supported Employment for Individuals With Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a chronic and disabling psychiatric disorder, experience high rates of occupational impairment. OCD symptoms commonly affect individuals' vocational aspirations and result in disability and the need for financial support, problems that are not addressed by current clinical practice guideline recommendations for treating OCD. This Open Forum highlights the need to address occupational impairment caused by OCD and makes the case for formally evaluating whether evidence-based supported employment can help individuals with OCD find and succeed

Employment-Related Factors of Forensic Psychiatric Outpatients with Psychotic Disorders.

Analyses determined variables that were associated with accepting or declining randomization to supported-employment services. A regression model was used to determine the odds of obtaining employment. RESULTS: Of t

Addiction treatment-related employment barriers: the impact of methadone maintenance.

Employment is commonly upheld as an important outcome of addiction treatment. To explore this attribution, we assessed whether treatment enrollment predicts employment initiation among participants enrolled in a community-recruited Canadian cohort of people who inject drugs (IDU; N = 1,579). Survival analysis initially found no association between addiction treatment enrollment and employment initiation. However, when methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) was separated from other treatment modalities, non-MMT treatment positively predicted employment transitions, whereas MMT was negatively assoc

Employment of terbinafine against Pneumocystis carinii infection in rat models.

The anti-Pneumocystis carinii response of terbinafine together with that of three other compounds, trimethoprim sulphamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), atovaquone (ATQ) and albendazole (ALB), has been investigated in immunosuppressed Sprague-Dawley rats with established pneumocystosis. Drugs were administered orally (terbinafine in dosages of 40 and 80 mg/kg per day, TMP 12.5 mg/kg per day plus SMX 62.5 mg/kg per day, ATQ 100 mg/kg per day and ALB 600 mg/kg per day) to six rat groups except one which served as a control. Employment status, non-daytime work and gastric ulcer in men.

BACKGROUND: An excess risk of gastric ulcer (GU) (ICD-8: 531) has formerly been found in shift workers and ex-shiftworkers but little is known about the risk of GU associated with other forms of non-daytime work. This study deals with associations between non-daytime work and GU. METHODS: A fixed cohort of 122,116 men in occupations in which at least 20% had non-daytime work and a reference group of 593,281 men in occupations with daytime work only, was followed in the National Inpatient Register for first discharges with GU as the principal diagnosis. RESULTS: For men with daytime work only

A study on the impact of college students' employment-oriented social media use on employment anxiety: a dual mediation effect based on social capital and risk perception.

Amid pervasive digital media and fierce employment competition, social media serves as a key source of job information and professional connections for college students. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and cognitive behavioral theory, this study constructs a latent variable structural model featuring dual parallel mediators (social capital, risk perception). Based on questionnaire data from 2,008 students recruited from multiple universities across different regions of China, this study combines confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM), hierarchic

Obesity, Employment, and Economic Productivity in Europe: A Systematic Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: The economic burden that obesity places on society, both directly and indirectly, is considerable. It is acknowledged that obesity is associated with decreased economic productivity; however, the evidence examining the exact relationship between obesity and key metrics of employment in the European context remains to be consolidated. METHODS: A systematic literature review was performed to determine the association between body mass index (BMI) and employment outcomes. Searches were conducted across three electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, and Epistemonikos). Studies were el

Employment in Later Life: Its Multiple Benefits, Challenges, and Future Outlook.

Amid rapid population aging, declining fertility, and a shrinking workforce, employment in later life has become a critical issue in Japan. Older adults are no longer viewed solely as care recipients; many remain engaged in paid work, making employment a key form of social participation. This review synthesizes epidemiological evidence on the health benefits, challenges, and future directions of late-life employment, drawing on the authors' previous studies and domestic and international cohort research from a health and welfare policy perspective. Longitudinal evidence indicates that continue
