PURPOSE: Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder disproportionately experience voiding dysfunction and persistent nocturnal enuresis due to a combination of sphincter and detrusor overactivity and nocturnal polyuria. The different treatment approaches to nocturnal enuresis often fail in these patients. Therefore, we performed a prospective study to compare the efficacy of combination therapy with desmopressin and oxybutynin vs the tricyclic antidepressant imipramine in patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who have nocturnal enuresis.

To achieve dryness in children who suffer from persistent bedwetting, it is important to find out which factors play a role in their bedwetting and why previous treatment has failed. The use of a micturition diary is essential. The child's problems and needs have to be identified and treated individually. The enuresis alarm, with the proper guidance, is the preferred form of initial treatment. Desmopressin is particularly suitable in cases of nocturnal polyuria or if the use of the alarm is unfeasible. If the alarm does not have any effect within two weeks or if a rapid result is important, a

BACKGROUND: The aim of our study was to evaluate the difficulty in emotion regulation, depression and anxiety levels of mothers with a child diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to mothers of the non- T1DM control group.
METHODS: Our study included 72 adolescents followed up with T1DM and 72 healthy adolescents and their mothers. Psychiatric evaluation of children was performed according to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria. All mothers were administered the `Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-16)` and the `Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HAD)`.

A 20-year-old man noticed enuresis since the age of 18 years. He was also pointed out gait unsteadiness by his friends. Neurologic examination revealed spastic tetraparesis with mild cerebellar ataxia. The cerebrospinal fluid had mild pleocytosis containing neutrophils and brain magnetic resonance imaging showed mild pontocerebellar atrophy. Urodynamic study revealed uninhibited bladder and detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia. The diagnosis of neuro-Behçet's disease was made by the past history of recurrent genital and aphthous ulcers and positive HLA-B51. The frequency of enuresis was reduced by t

Drug therapy for incontinence and enuresis has met with varying degrees of success. Currently, there is no medication available that specifically targets the lower urinary tract without having untoward effects elsewhere in the body. Patients with urge incontinence are the most difficult group to treat. The agents most commonly used to treat urge incontinence, i.e. anticholinergics, musculotropics and tricyclic antidepressants, are limited in their effectiveness and have anticholinergic adverse effects. Other medications with theoretical treatment potential such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammator

Bedwetting is present in 5 to 7% of children aged 7 to 8 years. The history of the disorder and the examination of the child are of main importance. This is usually the first step to identify nocturnal enuresis, bladder or urethral instability and other voiding dysfunctions. Therapeutic failure is often related to an inadequate analysis of the disorder. For nocturnal enuresis, the best results are obtained with alarms and/or desmopressine; bladder instability usually requires oxybutinine chlorydrate and urethral instability can be treated with biofeedback therapy. The management of other voidi

Clinical and urodynamic findings in 50 children with normal neurologic examination and: enuresis (n = 5), vesical incontinence (n = 2), recurrent urinary tract infection (n = 10) or association of these abnormalities (n = 33) are described. Renal ultrasonography showed bilateral hydronephrosis in a girl with hypotonic bladder. Reflux nephropathy was detected in two children with vesical hyperactivity and in one patient with hypotonic bladder. Vesical residue was evident in 5 patients with hyperactive bladder. Increased bladder capacity occurred in two children with hypotonic response. Vesical

Our study was designed to develop a customisable, wearable, and comfortable medical device - the text so-called "MyPAD" that monitors the fullness of the bladder, triggering an alarm indicating the need to void, in order to prevent badwetting - i.e., treating Nocturnal Enuresis (NE) at the text pre-void stage using miniaturised mechatronics with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The developed features include: multiple bespoke ultrasound (US) probes for sensing, a bespoke electronic device housing custom US electronics for signal processing, a bedside alarm box for processing the echoed pulses and

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate whether the efficacy of desmopressin differs between patients with and without nocturnal polyuria.
METHODS: A total of 65 treatment-naïve children with monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis were enrolled (45 boys; median age 8.9 years). Patients received desmopressin as their first-line treatment. Four different standards were used (Akashi and Hoashi >0.9 mL/kg/sleeping hour; Hamano >[age + 2] × 25 × 130% mL; the International Children's Continence Society >[age + 1] × 30 × 130% mL; and Rittig >[age + 9] × 20 mL) to assess nocturnal polyuria. Pheochromocytoma is a rare, catecholamine secreting tumor arising from chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla and it is responsible for 0.5-2% of pediatric hypertension cases. We hereby present a case of a 13-year-old girl with obesity, excessive hypertension, prediabetes and secondary nocturnal enuresis, who was eventually diagnosed with pheochromocytoma. Most symptoms significantly improved after treating the tumor. We suggest that this diagnosis should be considered in pediatric patients presenting with similar symptoms.

BACKGROUND: In our experience, secondary enuresis nocturna is a common complaint among children after a motor vehicle accident. However, as these children are often brought for examination as part of an insurance compensation claim, this complaint is not always reliable.
OBJECTIVE: To describe a series of children in whom secondary enuresis occurred after a motor vehicle accident.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Five children were brought to our clinic for evaluation of secondary nocturnal enuresis. Review of past history revealed a car accident preceding the onset of the enuresis. All but one had addi

Bladder control is a developmental process which is determined by somatic, individual psychological and psychosocial factors. It depends on the maturation of bladder capacity and of adequate neuromuscular coordination, on the quantity of urine and on appropriate recognition of bladder expansion. The latter especially is clearly correlated to healthy individuation and psychosocial integration of the child. Statistically, 80-90% of children have successfully developed bladder control at the age of 4-6 years. In the remaining 10 or 20% who do not attain dryness during daytime or at night, wetting

BACKGROUND: Primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) is a multifactorial condition associated with disturbances in neurodevelopmental maturation, sleep regulation, and lower urinary tract function. This study aimed to characterize neurobehavioral, sleep-related, neurophysiological, and lower urinary tract comorbidities in children with PNE and to compare these findings with those of age-matched hospital-based controls without nocturnal enuresis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative study included 128 children with PNE and 30 age-matched controls without nocturnal enuresis or daytime

Closed dysraphism is a rare but complex neurological disorder that can manifest as neurological deterioration secondary to an inherently tethered spinal cord. Spina bifida occulta is a spectrum of abnormalities ranging from lack of fusion of the vertebral arch without other associated abnormalities sometimes. An uro-neurological assessment is essential as this malformation may present urinary symptoms as the only urinary symptoms without other obvious neurological abnormalities. Spinal cord MRI is useful for diagnosing and determining the morphology of the pathology in young children with this

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine symptom severity, posture, and balance of children with primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) and compare to a healthy control group.
METHODS: Thirty-five children with PMNE and 34 healthy children were included in this study. Physical and sociodemographic characteristics of the children were recorded. Symptom severity was assessed with a Vancouver Non-Neurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction/Dysfunctional Elimination Syndrome Questionnaire (NLUTD/DES), a four-day bladder diary and a seven-day bowel diary. Standing postural alignment was asse

INTRODUCTION: The case history is the primary tool when investigating the enuretic child. To further determine whether nocturnal polyuria or detrusor overactivity is present, a full voiding chart, is the method of choice. However, there is no robust evidence that daytime voiding chart data actually do predict nocturnal detrusor function.
AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of anamnestic data and the voiding chart in the treatment of children with therapy-resistant enuresis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The patients all suffered from enuresis resistant to first-line therapy

Pheochromocytoma is a rare tumor which is infrequent in children. Although the clinical presentation in children can be atypical, the classic symptoms are headache, sweating and tachycardia. Hypertension is often a constant sign in most patients. There are few cases in literature reporting pheochromocytoma presented with polyuria. We present a 13-year-old girl who came to the Pediatric Nephrologist due to a year of evolution of secondary enuresis. When her blood pressure was taken, she was above the 99th percentile that corresponds to her age and her height that is why she was admitted for tre
