Intrinsic neural timescale abnormalities reveal molecular and neuromodulatory basis of concomitant exotropia.

BACKGROUND: Concomitant exotropia (CE) is a prevalent strabismic disorder characterized by outward ocular deviation and impaired binocular vision. While structural and functional brain abnormalities have been reported in CE, the temporal dynamics of intrinsic neural timescale remain largely unexplored. METHODS: This study employed a multimodal framework combining resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI), transcriptomic data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas (AHBA), and neurotransmitter receptor density maps to investigate alterations in intrinsic neural timescales (INT) in CE. A total of 87 part

[Early and late occurring consecutive exotropia following a medial rectus faden operation].

UNLABELLED: The main advantage of the bilateral medial rectus faden operation (posterior fixation suture) for the treatment of essential infantile esotropia is the low occurrence of delayed consecutive exotropia. Nevertheless, this unwanted complication also occasionally occurs after a faden operation. PATIENTS: All patients operated on between 1988 and 1997 for subsequent exotropia following bimedial faden operations without recessions were included in this study. Surgery for exotropia consisted of uni- or bilateral lateral rectus muscle recession or in removing the faden with or without res

Nasal loop myopexy for management of exotropia-hypotropia complex associated with high myopia.

INTRODUCTION: Exotropia-hypotropia complex is an uncommon phenomenon associated with high myopia. However, some literature reports cases of the exotropia-hypotropia complex where residual hypotropia is managed through a secondary surgery following the conventional recession-resection of the lateral rectus (LR) and medial rectus (MR). Nasal Loop myopexy as a primary surgical procedure for the management of exotropia-hypotropia complex has been rarely reported in the literature. METHODS: A 24-year-old male with unilateral high myopia presented with a large angle exotropia-hypotropia complex wit

Results of large (8-9 mm) bilateral lateral rectus muscle recessions for exotropia.

PURPOSE: Commonly recommended maximum lateral rectus muscle recession for exotropia ranges from as little as 7 mm to as much as 11 mm. Published studies on recessions of 8 mm or more are scarce. Many ophthalmic surgeons still avoid recessions larger than 7 mm because of the fear of creating abduction deficits and surgical overcorrections. Therefore, we sought to determine the incidence of clinically detectable abduction deficits and their correlation with early surgical overcorrection in exotropic patients who had undergone large 8 to 9 mm lateral rectus muscle recessions.
