6-Chloro-1,2,3-benzothiadiazole (6-Cl-BTD) is an effective inhibitor of NADH oxidase (site I) but not of succinate oxidase in beef heart submitochondrial particles. For NADH oxidase activity maximal inhibition (80-85%) was achieved at 0.75mM 6-Cl-BTD. A similar level of inhibition was also observed (half maximal inhibitory concentration 0.5mM) towards NADH-duroquinone reductase; NADH-juglone reductase was slightly inhibited (23%) at 0.5mM 6-Cl-BTD while NADH-ferricyanide reductase was unaffected. We report the case of an infant with hypoglycemia, progressive lactic acidosis, an increased serum lactate/pyruvate ratio, and elevated plasma alanine, who had a moderate to profound decrease in the ability of mitochondria from four organs to oxidize pyruvate, malate plus glutamate, citrate, and other NAD+-linked respiratory substrates. The paper reports hemodynamic and biochemical findings in 76 patients with acute myocardial infarction on the basis of which the patients were treated with either peripheral vasodilators (sodium nitroprusside) or beta-blockers (obsidan). Changes in hemodynamic patterns and myocardial metabolism in response to treatment are described. It is concluded that careful hemodynamic and metabolic monitoring is essential in the management of acute myocardial infarction, particularly, where agents affecting the spread of necrotic areas are administered.

Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) as a mono-infusion was administered to 51 patients for periods of a few hours. A further group of 19 patients received SNP for periods of several days as a combination solution of SNP mixed with sodium thiosulphate. A chelation-assisted palladium-catalyzed cascade bromination/cyanation reaction of 2-arylpyridine and 1-arylpyrazole C-H bonds has been developed. Notably, the reaction employs K(3)[Fe(CN)(6)] as a safe and nontoxic cyanide source, providing aromatic nitriles in moderate to good yields in one-pot. The procedure tolerates methoxy, chloro, fluoro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, and carbomethoxy groups.
