OBJECTIVE: The aim of our retrospective study was to correlate the intraoperative frozen section (FS) and permanent section (PS) diagnosis among patients with early-stage endometrial cancer (FIGO Stage I).
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of clinical data. A set of 63 women were operated by the technique of laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (LAVH with BSO). BACKGROUND: Sentinel node biopsy is a standard diagnostic component for the treatment of patients with a primary mammary carcinoma. OBJECTIVE: To prospectively evaluate in a blinded fashion the accuracy of frozen section in endometrial cancer.
METHODS: Sixty patients with endometrial cancer or complex atypical hyperplasia were consecutively enrolled. Intraoperatively, a frozen section was obtained, processed, and stored for interpretation by blinded pathologists. Final pathologic diagnosis was conducted in the usual fashion with the pathologists blinded to frozen results. Histologic grade and myometrial invasion on frozen section was correlated with final pathology.
RESULTS: Median age was 61 years (range, 39-82 years).

BACKGROUND: Intraoperative frozen sections (FS) of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) can be used to detect metastatic disease, allowing immediate axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). However, pathological inconsistency in the SLNs diagnosis is sometimes encountered when the results of FS and permanent sections are compared. A prospective study is presented of frozen section examinations (FS) performed in parallel with 265 consecutive sentinel lymph node procedures (SLNP) over a 20-month period. The final pathological study included immunohistochemistry (IHC) for keratin if the haematoxylin-eosin (HE)-stained section was tumour free. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNB) and frozen section (FS) may help to validate pre- and intraoperatively dignity of thyroid nodules. Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare, rapidly progressing soft-tissue infection. Early clinical recognition is difficult, and there is often a fatal delay in appropriate treatment. Experiences with frozen sections performed on 556 consecutive breast biopsies were reviewed. There were no false positive reports among the 145 (26%) lesions interpreted as carcinoma. Among 381 (68.6%) biopsies in which no carcinoma was found on frozen section, eight proved to contain carcinoma in other areas. Very well-differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma is a rare subtype that is often overlooked because of minimal cytological atypia and ill-defined gross findings.
