Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with persistent cognitive and emotional disturbances linked to hippocampal dysfunction, oxidative stress, and impaired neuroplasticity. Gallic acid, a naturally occurring polyphenol, possesses antioxidant and neuroprotective properties, but its effects in trauma-related disorders remain incompletely understood. Male Wistar rats were subjected to single prolonged stress (SPS) to induce PTSD-like phenotypes and, beginning 24 h after SPS, received gallic acid (10 or 100 mg/kg) or saline for 14 days. Anxiety-like behavior, fear extinction, and sp

The in-situ remediation of recalcitrant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in heavily contaminated coking plant soils is severely constrained by the classic Fenton process, which fails to generate hydroxyl radicals (•OH) efficiently at circumneutral pH due to catalyst deactivation. Here, we demonstrate that this critical bottleneck can be overcome by harnessing gallic acid (GA), a natural polyphenol, to engineer a self-sustaining catalytic cycle. Our optimized Fe(III)/GA/H2O2 system achieved a remarkable 99.4% degradation of high-concentration PAHs (2149.69 mg/kg) in authentic aged soil w

This study evaluates the combined antibacterial activity (AA) of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and UV-C light-activated gallic acid (AGA) against two common enteropathogens (Escherichia coli and S. Typhimurium) in terms of microbial growth and survival during gastrointestinal simulation (GS). The LAB were selected based on their capacity to ferment soy and whey concentrates in monoculture and co-culture. The resulting LAB-fermented medium (LABF) was evaluated for its antibacterial properties against enteropathogens and combined with AGA to determine its effects during the GS. Results indicated th

Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a critical condition leading to severe neurological deficits. Inflammation, driven by microglial polarization, plays a significant role in the progression of I/R injury. Gallic acid (GA), a natural polyphenol, has been recognized for its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Male mice subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) were treated with GA. Neurological deficits, infarct size, and brain edema were assessed to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of GA. In vitro, oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) models w

When the barrier function of the skin tissue is destroyed, the burn wound is prone to bacterial infection and difficult to repair during the healing process. Therefore, there is an urgent need to design functional dressing materials to promote burn wound repairing. In this research, injectable hydrogel with mussel-inspired tissue adhesion was fabricated from dopamine grafted oxidized pectin (OP-DA) and hydrazide terminated polyethylene oxide (PEO-AH) as dressing material for burn wounds. The catechol moiety on the grafted dopamine (DA) enhanced the tissue adhesion of hydrogel and the wound sea

Kidney stones, which have high prevalence and recurrence rates, often cause severe oxidative damage and inflammation. The ultrasmall hydrodynamic diameter of nanoparticles is crucial for their enrichment in the kidneys to exert biological activity. However, integrating crystallization inhibition and therapeutic functions into a single ultrasmall nanoparticle is challenging. A novel ultrasmall iron (Fe)-gallic acid (Ga) metal-phenolic networks (Fe-Ga MPNs) is developed for treating calcium oxalate (CaOx) nephropathies. These MPNs can specifically adsorb on the high-energy ( 1 ¯ 01 $\bar{1}01$

Gallic acid (GA) is a type of polyphenolic compound that can be found in a range of fruits, vegetables, and tea. Although it has been confirmed it improves non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), it is still unknown whether GA can improve the occurrence of NAFLD by increasing the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) accumulation and alleviating cholesterol metabolism disorders. Therefore, the present study explored the effect of GA on LDLR and its mechanism of action. The findings indicated that the increase in LDLR accumulation in HepG2 cells induced by GA was associated with the stimul

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder globally, with no effective treatment available yet. A crucial pathological hallmark of AD is the accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, which is deteriorated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and neuroinflammation in AD progression. Thus, alleviation of ROS and inflammation has become a potential therapeutic strategy in many studies. Herein, we reported ultrasmall coordination polymer nanoparticles formed by ferric ions and gallic acid (Fe-GA CPNs), which owned antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties for A

Infertility resulting from reproductive deficiency can be stressful. Exposure to aflatoxin B1, a dietary mycotoxin prevalent in improperly stored grains, is reported to elicit reproductive insufficiencies and infertility. We, therefore, examined the likely beneficial effect of gallic acid (GA) a phytochemical, recognized to exhibit in vitro and in vivo pharmacological bioactivities against oxidative stress and related inflammatory damages in rats, since AFB1 toxicities are predicated on oxidative epoxide formation, in a bid to proffer new evidence to advance the field of nutriceutical applicat

The healing activity of gallic acid enriched ethanolic extract (GAE) of Phyllanthus emblica fruits (amla) against the indomethacin-induced gastric ulceration in mice was investigated. The activity was correlated with the ability of GAE to alter the cyclooxygenase- (COX-) dependent healing pathways. Histology of the stomach tissues revealed maximum ulceration on the 3rd day after indomethacin (18 mg/kg, single dose) administration that was associated with significant increase in inflammatory factors, namely, mucosal myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and inducible nitric oxide synthase (i-NOS) expr

Cholecalciferol (VDC), a vital form of vitamin D, is essential for maintaining calcium-phosphorus balance, promoting bone health, and regulating the immune system; however, its therapeutic potential is limited by low oral bioavailability and poor aqueous solubility. To address these issues, a multifunctional nanoparticle (NPS) was developed: VDC was first encapsulated in β-cyclodextrin (βCD) to form a stable βCD/VDC inclusion complex, improving solubility and physicochemical stability, and then coated with gallic acid (GA) to yield the core-shell nanovehicle GA/βCD/VDC-NPS, which leverages GA'
