Diagnosing Schwannoma in the Wrist: a Challenging Case of Intraneural Ganglion Cyst Mimicry and a Review of Literature.

Schwannoma can rarely mimic an intraneural ganglion cyst clinically and radiographically. This is a rare case report of a wrist schwannoma mimicking an intraneural ganglion cyst. The surgery was successful, and the histopathological report confirmed the diagnosis of benign schwannoma. After two years of follow-up, the patient is still symptom-free.

Cubital tunnel syndrome associated with previous ganglion cyst excision in the elbow: a case report.

Cubital tunnel syndrome refers to compression neuropathy caused by pressure on the ulnar nerve pathway around the elbow. A 63-year-old male patient visited the clinic complaining of decreased sensation and weakness in his left ring finger and little finger, stating that the symptoms first began 6 months prior. He had undergone surgery to remove a ganglion cyst from his left elbow joint about 5 years prior in Mongolia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cystic mass located at the previous surgical site, which was compressing the ulnar nerve within the cubital tunnel. Ulnar nerve decompressio

Differentiation of ulnar neuropathy at the wrist due to ganglion cyst from ulnar neuropathy at the elbow.

OBJECTIVE: Here, we aimed to describe the clinical, electrodiagnostic (EDx) and ultrasonographic (US) findings in a series of patients with ulnar neuropathy at the wrist (UNW) due to compression by a ganglion cyst. We also sought features that differentiate UNW from ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (UNE). METHODS: We reviewed electronic medical records of consecutive patients with UNW caused by ganglion cysts. We compared their clinical, EDx and US findings to findings in our previously reported prospective series of UNE patients. RESULTS: We identified 10 patients with UNW caused by ganglion c

Intramuscular Ganglion Cyst of the Flexor Hallucis Brevis Secondary to Muscle Tear: A Case Report.

In the current study, we present a case of an intramuscular ganglion cyst in the flexor hallucis brevis muscle (FHB) that arose secondary to a muscle tear. Through this study, we propose a possible aetiology for the development of intramuscular ganglionic cysts. A 50-year-old woman presented with acute pain and swelling over the right mid-plantar area after prolonged kneeling for scrubbing floors. Ultrasonography examination performed at 5 days after the onset of symptoms revealed a partial tear of the right FHB. Follow-up evaluations were conducted, with magnetic resonance imaging and ultraso

Peroneal neuropathy caused by an extraneural ganglion cyst in the supracondylar area of the femur: A case report.

RATIONALE: Peroneal neuropathy is the most common type of peripheral neuropathy in the lower extremities. The peroneal nerve is usually compressed at the lateral aspect of the fibular head. Compression by ganglion cysts are one of the numerous underlying etiologies for peroneal nerve neuropathy and are most frequently located around the fibular neck and proximal tibiofibular joint. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an extraneural ganglion cyst located at the level of the distal thigh that resulted in compressive peroneal neuropathy. PATIENT CONCERNS: We report a case o

Long-Term Functional Outcome After Surgical Treatment of Peroneal Intraneural Ganglion Cyst.

BACKGROUND: Intraneural ganglia are benign mucinous cystic formations that originate within the epineurium of peripheral nerves. Different treatments have been recommended, with an overall satisfactory outcome. In this paper, we aim to evaluate the long-term outcomes of surgical treatment of peroneal intraneural ganglia by reviewing our local institutional experience. METHODS: We performed a case series review of peroneal intraneural ganglia surgical treatment performed by the senior author. Demographic and surgical details were abstracted from the medical record for each patient. Electrodiag

Compressive peroneal neuropathy by an intraneural ganglion cyst combined with L5 radiculopathy: A case report.

RATIONALE: Most cases of foot drop are known to result from lower motor neuron pathologies, particularly lumbar radiculopathy and peripheral neuropathy, including common peroneal neuropathy. To improve the prognosis of foot drop, it is important to quickly and accurately diagnose the etiology and provide appropriate treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 65-year-old female patient with a history of L4-5 intervertebral disc herniation presented with right foot drop that had developed 1 month previously. DIAGNOSIS: Electrodiagnostic examination revealed common peroneal neuropathy combined with L5 radi

Temporomandibular Joint Ganglion Cyst: A Unique Case of Complete Resolution Following Subtotal Excision.

Ganglion cysts of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are a rare entity. Most often, ganglions present in anatomic regions, such as the hand, wrist, knee, foot, or ankle. Ganglion cysts are pseudocysts characterized by a fibrous connective tissue lining that lacks synovial cells and contains a thick gelatinous material. The etiology remains unclear, but might involve myxoid degeneration or softening of the collagen and connective tissue after long-term irritation and trauma. Ganglion cysts of the TMJ most commonly present as a swelling in the preauricular region, produce limited or no pain, and

Surgical treatment of temporomandibular disorder in a 24-year-old male patient with ganglion cyst.

Ganglion cysts are common pseudocystic masses, whereas those arising from the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are rare entities. We report a case of ganglion cyst of the right TMJ with symptomatic bilateral TMJ internal derangement in a 24-year-old man. Disk repositioning using bone anchors and excision of the ganglion cyst were performed. A unique characteristic of inflammatory infiltrates was revealed in the specimen, and the relationship between these 2 distinct entities and probable pathogenesis of infectious involvement are discussed.

Inferior paralabral ganglion cyst of the shoulder with labral tear -- a rare cause of shoulder pain.

INTRODUCTION: Paralabral ganglion cysts of the shoulder are rare, and their pathogenesis is similar to that of meniscal cysts. The paralabral cysts are most frequently reported along the posterior, superior, and anterior aspects of the glenohumeral joint and are uncommon inferiorly to the joint. These cysts rarely become evident clinically, unless they cause compression of surrounding structures, i.e. nerve. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report a retrospective series of five patients with inferior paralabral ganglion cysts of the shoulder without compression of the surrounding nerve which were tre

Intradural extraneural bilobate ganglion cyst of the atlanto-occipital joint compressing the hypoglossal nerve.

Ganglion cysts (ganglia) are benign lesions of the soft tissue arising in the periarticular space. We present a 54-year-old woman with a 5-month history of headache and weakness of the tongue with deviation to the left side who had a rare extraneural intradural bilobate ganglion cyst of the atlanto-occipital joint compressing the hypoglossal nerve. An MRI showed a bilobate cystic lesion in the premedullary cistern on the left side at the level of the hypoglossal canal. This lesion was removed using a lateral suboccipital approach in the semi-sitting position with removal of the C1 hemiarch. Th

An osteoid osteoma coexisting with a ganglion cyst in the fifth metatarsal head: A rare case report.

Osteoid osteoma is a small, benign, but intensely painful bone tumor that usually arises in the diaphysis or metaphysis of long bones such as the femur, tibia, or humerus. Its occurrence in the metatarsal bones is exceedingly rare. Even more unusual is its coexistence with a ganglion cyst, a benign cystic lesion commonly seen around joints or tendon sheaths. The overlapping symptoms of these 2 entities can mask the typical presentation of osteoid osteoma and make diagnosis challenging. We describe a 70-year-old man who presented with nocturnal pain localized to the head of the fifth metatarsal
