The effect of Lippia Citriodora (LC) extract on cardiometabolic risk factors: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic disorders are a growing public health concern worldwide. Lippia citriodora (LC), a polyphenol-rich medicinal plant, has been suggested to offer metabolic benefits due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and lipid-modulating properties. However, the clinical evidence regarding its efficacy remains inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effects of LC extract supplementation on key cardiometabolic risk factors in adults. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted through June 2025 in original databases. Randomized

Description of Moniliella guaraniorum sp. nov., Moniliella tapajorum sp. nov. and Moniliella boundymillsiae sp. nov., three yeast species from tropical forest bioregions.

Three novel Moniliella species are proposed based on 16 yeast isolates collected from flowers, exudates and tree bark in tropical forest bioregions of Brazil and Australia. Barcode sequences of these yeasts showed that they represent distinct species of Moniliella. The first species, represented by two isolates, is phylogenetically related to Moniliella byzovii. The two species differ in the sequences of the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit of the rRNA gene by 34 nucleotide substitutions and 4 indels. The second species, represented by three isolates, is related to Moniliella carnis, from wh

Impact of Replicated Biomimetic Microstructures on the Wettability of Injection-Molded Polymer Surfaces.

This article evaluates the influence of replicated natural structures, produced by micro-machining, on the wettability of plastic parts made from hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer materials under various temperature and pressure conditions. Although many studies have focused on biomimetic surface design, the effect of specific processing parameters on the accurate replication of natural topologies and their resulting wettability has been only partially explored. This study addresses this gap by systematically analyzing the effect of melt temperature and packing pressure on the functional rep

Effect of ventricular fibrillation on infarct size after myocardial infarction: a translational study.

Ventricular fibrillation (VF)-induced cardiac arrest frequently complicates ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Although larger infarct sizes (IS) correlate with a higher risk of VF, the influence of VF itself on IS has remained poorly investigated. To address this knowledge gap, we analyzed the effect of VF on IS in patients and two experimental models. From a prospective cohort, 30 STEMI patients with VF were matched 1:2 with STEMI patients without VF on the common determinants of IS. The primary endpoint was IS, assessed using the 48-h area under the curve (AUC) for troponin

Effect of the aqueous extract of Justicia insularis T. Anders (Acanthaceae) on ovarian folliculogenesis and fertility of female rats.

Justicia insularis T. Anders (Acanthaceae) is a medicinal plant whose leaves and those of three other plants are mixed for the preparation of a concoction used to improve fertility and to reduce labour pains in women of the Western Region of Cameroon. Previous studies have demonstrated the inducing potential on ovarian folliculogenesis and steroidogenesis of the aqueous extract of the leaf mixture (ADHJ) of four medicinal plants (Aloe buettneri, Dicliptera verticillata, Hibiscus macranthus and Justicia insularis) among which the later represented the highest proportion. This study was aimed at

Cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen mapping on admission MRI may predict penumbral tissue fate in acute stroke patients treated successfully with thrombectomy.

PURPOSE: Infarct growth occurs in most patients despite successful thrombectomy. We evaluated whether a dynamic susceptibility-contrast (DSC) perfusion-MRI surrogate of the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) improves prediction of tissue fate within perfusion-diffusion mismatch regions after successful thrombectomy. METHODS: In this retrospective analysis of the prospective HIBISCUS-STROKE registry, we included anterior-circulation stroke patients with admission DSC perfusion MRI, recanalization (mTICI ≥ 2b) after thrombectomy, and day-6T2-FLAIR MRI. Admission DSC-derived CMRO2, cerebr

Anti-TNF Therapies Promote a Proximal-to-Distal Healing Pattern in Moderate-to-Severe Ulcerative Colitis.

BACKGROUND: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the colonic mucosa, extending proximally from the rectum. However, the segmental pattern of healing in UC remains unclear. Endoscopic improvement (EI), a key therapeutic endpoint, is typically assessed using the Mayo endoscopic score (MES), which scores the worst affected area and may miss partial/segmental healing. This study evaluates healing patterns in UC and compares conventional MES with a 3-segment MES approach for detecting treatment effects in clinical trials. METHODS: A post hoc analysis of HIBISCUS I/II and GA

Expression Profiling and Characterization of HcTGA5 Gene in Kenaf Under Hormonal Treatments and Its Association with Resistance to Root-Knot Nematode.

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.), a member of the Malvaceae family, has gained increasing research interest owing to its therapeutic attributes. Among pathogens affecting tropical kenaf cultivation, Meloidogyne enterolobii is the most economically destructive disease, causing severe yield loss and quality deterioration. Consequently, the identification of M. enterolobii-resistant kenaf germplasms and the elucidation of the underlying molecular pathways are primary objectives for plant breeders. In this study, the gene encoding a TGA-like protein associated with root-knot nematode resistance was

Antibacterial activity of hexane and methanol fractions of some selected plants against Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Besides adenovirus, pneumonia can also be caused by bacteria. One of the most common bacteria causing the pneumonia is Klebsiella pneumoniae. Currently, treatment by antibiotics has been widely used. Nevertheless, the increasing failure of existing antibiotics because of antibiotic resistance resulted by bacterial pathogens has become a serious problem to human health. Hence, there is a need for a new antibacterial potential agent against K. pneumoniae as an alternative treatment to the pneumonia to prevent the risk of a severe pneumonia for both healthy people and those already infected with

Heavy metal, microbial and pesticides residue contaminations are limiting the potential consumption of green leafy vegetables in Ghana: An overview.

Green leafy vegetables (such as cocoyam (Colocasia spp) leaves, spinach (Spinach spp), amaranths (Amaranthus spp), roselle leaves (Hibiscus spp), and lettuce (Lactuca spp)) form a major part of Ghanaian meals providing essential vitamin such as A, B and C and minerals including iron and calcium as well as essential bioactive compounds. However, the practices involved in the production, distribution and handling of these nutrient rich vegetables, by most value chain actors in Ghana, unfortunately pre-dispose them to contamination with pathogens, heavy metals and pesticides residues. These have
