Self-enhancement-based perfusion mapping with contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for PAD assessment.

We developed an automatic self-enhancement-based perfusion mapping (SEPM) method to relatively map the microvascular perfusion level in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) into four categories: hyper-enhanced, isoenhanced, hypo-enhanced, and non-enhanced. These regions are identified based on the relative enhancement from the local pre-contrast arrival frame. We hypothesized that the signal intensity and change in signal intensity of skeletal calf muscles over a course of approximately 10 min of dynamic CE-MRI are measures of perfusion abnormalities that are of importance in

Accounting for nonspecific enhancement in neuronal tract tracing using manganese enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

Manganese enhanced MRI (MEMRI) is an emerging technique for tracing neuronal pathways in vivo. However, manganese may leak into blood vessels or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) after local injection and can be circulated to and taken up by brain regions that may not have connections to the targeted pathways. Comparing enhancement time courses after intranasal injection with intravenous infusion of MnCl(2) in rats, the early enhancements in the pituitary gland (Pit) and hippocampus indicate the contrasts in those regions in the olfactory tract-tracing experiment were caused by such systemic effects.

Optic Nerve Root Enhancement in Gadolinium-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Rathke's Cleft Cyst.

BACKGROUND: Although most patients with Rathke's cleft cysts (RCCs) remain asymptomatic throughout their lives, visual impairment in RCCs usually indicates surgical interventions, including endoscopic drainage of the cyst. We report a case of RCC with unique findings in the optic nerve root (ONR) by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). CASE DESCRIPTION: A 58-year-old man admitted to our hospital complained of progressive left visual impairment. Preoperative computed tomography MRI revealed a suprasellar cystic lesion that extended anteriorly, and the bilateral ONRs were lateralized with the cyst

ResNet-based image inpainting method for enhancing the imaging speed of single molecule localization microscopy.

Single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) is a mainstream method in the field of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy that can achieve a spatial resolution of 20∼30 nm through a simple optical system. SMLM usually requires thousands of raw images to reconstruct a super-resolution image, and thus suffers from a slow imaging speed. Recently, several methods based on image inpainting have been developed to enhance the imaging speed of SMLM. However, these image inpainting methods may also produce erroneous local features (or called image artifacts), for example, incorrectly joined or spl

[Contrast-enhanced Ultrasound in Diagnostic Imaging of Muscle Injuries: Perfusion Imaging in the Early Arterial Phase].

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound is a standard procedure widely used in the diagnostic investigation of muscle injuries and widely described in the literature. Its advantages include rapid availability, cost effectiveness and the possibility to perform a real-time dynamic examination with the highest possible spatial resolution. In the diagnostic work-up of minor lesions (muscle stiffness, muscle strain), plain ultrasound has so far been inferior to MRI. The case presented by us is an example of the possibilities offered by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in the imaging of muscle injuries compared w

Present and future status of flexible spectral imaging color enhancement and blue laser imaging technology.

The usefulness of flexible spectral imaging color enhancement (FICE) has been reported for evaluating the esophagus, stomach, and small and large intestine. Higher contrast is shown between cancer and the surrounding mucosa in the esophagus and stomach and may facilitate the detection of gastric cancers missed by white light imaging alone. The surface patterns of gastric mucosa are clearly visualized in non-malignant areas but are irregular and blurred in malignant areas, leading to clear demarcation. Capsule endoscopy with FICE detects angiodysplasia and erosions of the small intestine. The s

In-Depth optimization and characterization of prostatic and penile vessel imaging with Ferumoxytol-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) arises from impairment of the vascular supply to the penis and requires reliable quantitative imaging for diagnosis, management, and longitudinal monitoring, particularly after pelvic surgery or radiotherapy. Penile Doppler ultrasound is a manual examination and subject to substantial inter-observer variability in both acquisition and interpretation. PURPOSE: To develop and optimize a Ferumoxytol-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) protocol for noninvasive, high-resolution imaging of prostatic and penile vasculature, and to design a

Case Report: Image-enhanced endoscopic characteristics of gastric amyloidosis with narrow-band imaging comparison.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) amyloidosis is a rare disorder with nonspecific clinical and endoscopic features, often leading to misdiagnosis. Timely recognition is crucial to prevent diagnostic delays and systemic complications. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-old male initially presented with upper respiratory symptoms, and chest computed tomography (CT) performed for pneumonia evaluation incidentally revealed esophageal wall thickening. The first endoscopy showed diffuse redness with loss of the regular arrangement of collecting venules in the gastric body, and the findings were initially

Fourier-plane spatial frequency modulation imaging: enhanced resolution imaging with a single, ultrashort pulse.

Single-shot spatial frequency-resolved imaging (SPIFI) is demonstrated for the first time, to our knowledge, using only a single 30 fs pulse. Earlier single-shot SPIFI configurations integrated a train of laser pulses, operated in an image plane conjugate to the object plane, and required a 2D detector. Here, a single pulse is selected, the data are collected in the Fourier plane, and the signal can be captured with 1D detection. The resultant improvement in spatial frequency support, characteristic of single-shot SPIFI, is shown to be conserved in this new architecture, to our knowledge. This

Enhancing dental caries classification in CBCT images by using image processing and self-supervised learning.

Diagnosing dental caries poses a significant challenge in dentistry, necessitating precise and early detection for effective management. This study utilizes Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) tasks to improve the classification of dental caries in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images, employing the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS). Faced with the challenge of scarce annotated medical images, our research employs SSL to utilize unlabeled data, thereby improving model performance. We have developed a pipeline incorporating unlabeled data extraction from CBCT exams

Multi-sequence generative adversarial network: better generation for enhanced magnetic resonance imaging images.

INTRODUCTION: MRI is one of the commonly used diagnostic methods in clinical practice, especially in brain diseases. There are many sequences in MRI, but T1CE images can only be obtained by using contrast agents. Many patients (such as cancer patients) must undergo alignment of multiple MRI sequences for diagnosis, especially the contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance sequence. However, some patients such as pregnant women, children, etc. find it difficult to use contrast agents to obtain enhanced sequences, and contrast agents have many adverse reactions, which can pose a significant risk. Precision image-guided colonic surgery: proof of concept for enhanced preoperative and intraoperative vascular imaging.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal surgery has benefited from advances in precision medicine such as total mesorectal resection, and recently, mesocolon resection, fluorescent perfusion imaging, and fluorescent node mapping. However, these advances fail to address the variable quality of mesocolon dissection and the directed extent of vascular dissection (including high ligation) or pre-resection anastomotic perfusion mapping, thereby impacting anastomotic leaks. We propose a new paradigm of precision image-directed colorectal surgery involving 3D preoperative resection modeling and intraoperative fluoros
