YouTube™ as an information source for larynx cancer: a systematic review of video content.

PURPOSE: The increasing availability of Internet as a health-care source causes both positive and negative effects on public health. Though reaching to information about diseases is faster and easier, the contents are not always correct and might be misleading. In our study, we aim to investigate the quality of YouTube™ videos on larynx cancer. METHODS: A YouTube™ search by using terms "throat cancer" and "larynx cancer" was done and, after eliminating the irrelevant videos, the first 200 videos were evaluated by three authors on quality, content and usefulness by using a pre-developed questi

Impact of inclusion of industry trial results registries as an information source for systematic reviews.

BackgroundClinical trial results registries may contain relevant unpublished information. Our main aim was to investigate the potential impact of the inclusion of reports from industry results registries on systematic reviews (SRs).MethodsWe identified a sample of 150 eligible SRs in PubMed via backward selection. Eligible SRs investigated randomized controlled trials of drugs and included at least 2 bibliographic databases (original search date: 11/2009). We checked whether results registries of manufacturers and/or industry associations had also been searched. If not, we searched these regis

Biopsy examination of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue: source of significant prognostic information?

Histological analysis of tumour resection for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue yields prognostic information. We analysed histological slides of biopsy and tumour resection specimens using an adapted malignancy grading score and analysed variables of neck dissections. There was moderate correlation between biopsy and tumour resection using malignancy grading scores (correlation coefficient 0.45); good agreement of tumour grade (79%), tumour depth (76%), and type of invasive front (80%), but correlation was only fair to moderate (κ=0.38, κ=0.51, and κ=0.41, respectively). Correlation

Family history information on essential tremor: potential biases related to the source of the cases.

The proportion of essential tremor (ET) cases that can be attributed to genetic factors is unknown; estimates range from 17--100%. One possible reason for this variability is that clinic and community cases may differ with regard to family history of ET. This is because clinic patients are self-selected and represent as few as 0.5% of all ET cases. Our goal was to determine whether ET cases ascertained from a clinic differed from those ascertained from a community in terms of the family history information that they provided. Subjects (57 clinic, 64 community) underwent a family history interv
