Musculoskeletal Disorders and Health-Related Quality of Life Among Information Technology Professionals in the Post-Pandemic Period: A Cross-Sectional Occupational Health Study.

BACKGROUND: IT professionals face sustained ergonomic exposures, including prolonged sedentary behaviour, high screen time, and suboptimal workstation design, that intensified following pandemic-driven shifts to remote and hybrid work. These conditions predispose this occupational cohort to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and impaired health related quality of life (HRQoL); however, population-specific evidence remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To estimate 12-month MSD prevalence and regional distribution among IT professionals, compare HRQoL across MSD and non-MSD groups, and identify factors ind

Development of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Tool for Monitoring of Antimicrobial Use, Animal Disease and Treatment Outcome in Low-Income Countries.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use (AMU) is needed to understand risks and implement policies. Collecting AMU data in the context of disease prevalence and therapeutic outcomes has been suggested for improving AMU. We describe the process of developing an information and communication technology (ICT) system to monitor AMU, diseases and treatment outcomes in poultry in East Africa. METHODS: A prototype system to register drug sales in veterinary pharmacies, a mobile application for farmers to report their AMU, and a database for monitor

Using information technology to integrate tobacco use treatment in routine oncology care: Lessons learned from the U.S. Cancer Center Cessation Initiative Cancer Centers.

BACKGROUND: Cancer patients who receive evidence-based tobacco-dependence treatment are more likely to quit and remain abstinent, but tobacco treatment programs (TTPs) are not consistently offered. In 2017, the U.S. National Cancer Institute, through the Cancer Moonshot, funded the Cancer Center Cessation Initiative (C3I). C3I supports 52 cancer centers to implement and expand evidence-based tobacco treatment in routine oncology care. Integration into routine care involves the use of health information technology (IT), including modifying electronic health records and clinical workflows. Here,

Assessing the Relationship Between Health Information Technology Use and Self-Rated Health Among Adults with Chronic Low Back Pain in the United States.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the use of health information technology (HIT) among adults with chronic low back pain (CLBP) in the United States and to evaluate the relationship between HIT use and self-rated health. METHODS: The independent variable was the use of the internet to (1) fill prescriptions, (2) communicate with a healthcare provider, (3) look up health information, and (4) schedule a medical appointment. Respondents rated their health in the last 12 months as worse, about the same, or better. A Chi-square analysis was used to assess the use of HIT among those with CLBP; a logistic regres

Toward safer health care: a review strategy of FDA medical device adverse event database to identify and categorize health information technology related events.

INTRODUCTION: Health information technology (HIT) is intended to provide safer and better care to patients. However, poorly designed or implemented HIT poses a key risk to patient safety. It is essential for healthcare providers and researchers to investigate the HIT-related events. Unfortunately, the lack of HIT-related event databases in the community hinders the analysis and management of HIT-related events. OBJECTIVES: Develop a standardized process for identifying HIT-related events from a Federal Drug Administration (FDA) database in order to create an HIT exclusive database for analysi

Emerging information technologies across the autism service and prevention continuum: a narrative review of screening, diagnosis, intervention, and health equity.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a major global public-health concern, yet timely identification and support remain difficult to access for many families, especially in rural, low-resource, and otherwise underserved settings. Emerging information technologies have been proposed as tools for narrowing this service gap. These include artificial intelligence (AI), wearable sensors, and the Internet of Things, mobile health applications and digital therapeutics, telehealth, immersive virtual and augmented reality, social robotics, and large language models. This narrative review organizes the evi

Work-Related Information and Communication Technologies Use After-Hours and Nurse Work Withdrawal Behavior: A Moderated Mediation Model.

BACKGROUND: The widespread adoption of information technology made the work-related use of information and communication technologies after hours (W_ICTs) a prevalent source of occupational stress among nurses. Grounded in conservation of resources theory and the effort-recovery model, this study constructed a moderated mediation model to examine the impact of W_ICTs on nurses' work withdrawal behavior, with a specific focus on the mediating role of job burnout and the moderating role of psychological detachment. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected through an online s

Evaluating information security in reimbursement decisions for digital health technologies in Germany and Switzerland - stretching the fourth hurdle too far?

Digital health technologies (DHTs) can improve healthcare delivery but also raise concerns about data protection and cybersecurity. Germany and Switzerland take contrasting approaches to these issues in reimbursement decision-making: in Germany, the Fast-Track procedure assigns explicit responsibility to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) for evaluating data protection and cybersecurity, whereas in Switzerland no dedicated procedure exists at the reimbursement level, and these issues are treated as having been addressed at the market access stage. This study compares h

Perception of People Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia About Information and Communication Technologies for Chronic Pain Management: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain is prevalent in our society, with conditions such as fibromyalgia being notably widespread. The gold standard for aiding individuals dealing with chronic pain involves interdisciplinary approaches rooted in a biopsychosocial perspective. Regrettably, access to such care is difficult for most of the people in need. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been used as a way of overcoming access barriers (among other advantages). OBJECTIVE: This study addressed the little explored area of how individuals with fibromyalgia use and perceive different types o

Can Everyday Assistive Technologies Provide Meaningful Support to Persons With Dementia and Their Informal Caregivers? Evaluation of Collaborative Community Program.

One of the most challenging caregiving roles today is providing informal care to an individual with dementia. A new program, "AT-Home with Dementia," was created by three collaborative social service agencies to offer simple assistive technologies to persons with dementia and their informal caregivers. Staff, equipped with a traveling kit of everyday devices, offered items during home visits to enhance memory, functional activities, safety, and comfort of persons with dementia. A limited formative program review led to improvements in the new program's reach, service delivery, and data. The re

Impulsivity-Compulsivity Axis: Evidence of Its Clinical Validity to Individually Classify Subjects on the Use/Abuse of Information and Communication Technologies.

The compulsive habit model proposed by Everitt and Robbins has accumulated important empirical evidence. One of their proposals is the existence of an axis, on which each a person with a particular addiction can be located depending on the evolutionary moment of his/her addictive process. The objective of the present study is to contribute in addressing the identification of such axis, as few studies related to it have been published to date. To do so, the use/abuse of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was quantified on an initial sample of 807 subjects. Questionnaires were also

Cefiderocol for treating severe aerobic Gram-negative bacterial infections: technology evaluation to inform a novel subscription-style payment model.

BACKGROUND: To limit the use of antimicrobials without disincentivising the development of novel antimicrobials, there is interest in establishing innovative models that fund antimicrobials based on an evaluation of their value as opposed to the volumes used. The aim of this project was to evaluate the population-level health benefit of cefiderocol in the NHS in England, for the treatment of severe aerobic Gram-negative bacterial infections when used within its licensed indications. The results were used to inform the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance in support of com

Empowering Older Adults Through Values-Informed Solutions for Technology Adoption: Protocol for a Feasibility and Acceptability Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial.

BACKGROUND: Although technology usage is steadily increasing among older adults, adoption and confidence greatly lag behind their younger counterparts. Sociocultural and health disparities intersect with aging to present distinct structural and psychosocial barriers to the adoption of newer technologies. Digital health literacy interventions can improve task-specific skills, technological self-efficacy, and use frequency, but most do not systematically incorporate older adults' values and goals, which are key drivers of sustained behavior change.
