Appendiceal cystadenoma mimicking a cystic renal mass.

We report the first case of appendiceal mucinous cystadenoma associated with the kidney. A 57-year-old man with chronic renal failure presented with a right renal mass. During laparoscopic nephrectomy, frozen analysis of a tubular structure extending from the mass showed appendiceal tissue. The mass, appendix, and what was believed to be the right kidney were removed. Pathologic examination demonstrated mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix. No renal tissue was identified, but the patient refused further treatment. This case demonstrates that mucinous cystadenomas arising from retroperitoneal s

[Malignant tumors in a region of endemic nephropathy].

In villages with endemic nephropathy (EN) high incidence and mortality rates of some urinary system tumors are reported. Age-adjusted incidences of renal pelvic and ureteral neoplasms were 46/10(5) in females and 27/10(5) in males; for urinary bladder tumors these figures were 16/10(5) and 35/10(5). The frequency of parenchymal kidney tumors was similar to that reported for the country as a whole. An increased relative risk of developing urinary system tumors was observed in patients with EN and with advancing age (only in women). Smoking did not relate to the occurrence of these neoplasms. No

SYSTEMIC EFFECTS OF NON-ENDOCRINE TUMOURS.

Tumours of non-endocrine origin may exert deleterious effects by elaborating active principles which disturb body regulation. Systemic manifestations are fairly common with neoplasms of the lung, kidney, gastro-intestinal tract and thymus. The secretion of these tumours may have a known chemical structure (serotonin), may present hormone-like action (parathormone, antidiuretic hormone, insulinoid), or have well-defined biological properties (erythropoietin, gastrin-like principle). Tumours may stimulate endocrine glands by an unknown mechanism, producing disorders such as Cushing's syndrome, h

Exophytic benign mixed epithelial stromal tumour of the kidney: case report of a rare tumour entity.

BACKGROUND: Mixed epithelial and stromal tumour (MEST) represents a recently described benign composite neoplasm of the kidney, which predominantly affects perimenopausal females. Most tumours are benign, although rare malignant cases have been observed. CASE REPORT: A 47-year-old postmenopausal female presented to the urologist with flank pain. A CT scan of the abdomen showed a 30-mm-in-diameter uniform mass adjacent to the pelvis of the left kidney. Surgical exploration showed a tumour arising from the lower anterior hilus of the left kidney. The tumour could be excised by preserving the ki

Liver neoplasms in methylmalonic aciduria: An emerging complication.

Methylmalonic aciduria (MMA) is an inherited metabolic disease caused by methylmalonyl-CoA mutase deficiency. Early-onset disease usually presents with a neonatal acute metabolic acidosis, rapidly causing lethargy, coma, and death if untreated. Late-onset patients have a better prognosis but develop common long-term complications, including neurological deterioration, chronic kidney disease, pancreatitis, optic neuropathy, and chronic liver disease. Of note, oncogenesis has been reported anecdotally in organic acidurias. Here, we present three novel and two previously published cases of MMA pa

Heterotopic pancreatic tail appearing as adrenal mass in a patient with left pelvic kidney.

A computed tomography scan of a 30-year-old male patient with hematuria incidentally revealed a left pelvic kidney and a lobulated mass in the left adrenal gland concerning for neoplasm. Although laparoscopic adrenalectomy was considered, serial imaging revealed the mass to be the pancreatic tail within the vacant renal fossa. This case demonstrates that ectopia of the kidney can lead to anatomic distortions that may confound the interpretation of radiologic examinations.

An unusual cause of complete distal ureteral obstruction: giant fibroepithelial polyp.

Fibroepithelial polyp of the ureter is a rare benign neoplasm of mesodermal origin. It is an extremely rare cause of hydronephrosis in children. It usually causes partial ureteral obstruction without loss of renal function. The preferred treatment is endoscopic or surgical resection of the polyp with preservation of the renal unit. The authors present an adolescent patient with a nonfunctioning left hydronephrotic kidney caused by complete ureteral obstruction caused by a giant fibroepithelial polyp of the distal ureter. This is an extremely rare presentation and outcome of this benign uretera

SH3BGRL3 is a pancancer prognostic and immunological biomarker.

BACKGROUND: SH3 Domain Binding Glutamate Rich Protein Like 3 (SH3BGRL3) plays a crucial part in regulating tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced effects and was involved in the onset and progression of various cancers. However, its role at pan-cancer level remains unclear. METHODS: Firstly, SH3BGRL3 expression and its correlation with patients' survival, and other clinical variables were explored in our clinical cohort of 370 kidney neoplasm patients. Subsequently, differential expression analysis, competing endogenous RNA and protein-protein interaction network analysis, correlation analysis w

Eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma with TSC2 mutation: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma (ESC-RCC) is an under-recognized, emerging new entity of sporadic renal neoplasms, which is listed as a rare type of renal cell carcinoma in the 2022 WHO renal tumor classification. It is easily misdiagnosed because its characteristics are insufficiently understood. CASE PRESENTATION: We report one case of ESC-RCC, a 53-year-old female patient with a right kidney mass found during clinical examination. The patient experienced no discomforting symptoms. Computer-tomography imaging at our urinary department showed a round soft tissu

Modeling Wilms Tumor Development with Multiple Lineage Human Fetal Kidney Organoids Reveals the Cellular Origin and Specific Drivers of Tumorigenesis.

Dysregulation of kidney organogenesis can lead to the development of Wilms tumor (WT), a common pediatric kidney cancer. Although numerous mutations implicated in WT have been identified through genomic studies, the cellular origin and driver mutations in WT remain unclear due to the lack of human models that preserve the complete lineage diversity of the developing kidney. Here, we established an in vitro condition to generate 3D human fetal kidney organoids (FekOs) phenocopying aspects of in vivo renal cellular heterogeneity and complex organization. FekOs faithfully recapitulated the spatia

Schwannoma of Kidney: A Case Report of a Benign Entity With Rare Presentation.

Schwannomas are rare peripheral nerve sheath tumours involving the head, neck and extremities. Heart, lung, orbit and kidney are some of the rare sites for schwannoma involvement. Here, we present a 55-year-old patient with no specific complaints, who was detected to have a complex solid cystic mass in the lower pole of the left kidney. In contrast-enhanced computed tomography, the lesion was highly suggestive of malignancy. The patient underwent a laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. Grossly, the tumour was well-circumscribed and delineated from surrounding renal parenchyma. Microscopic examinat

Sarcomatoid Urothelial Carcinoma Arising in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) may be associated with various epithelial malignancies. The most reported ones are papillary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and clear cell RCC. Only one noninvasive urothelial carcinoma arising in the renal pelvis has been previously reported in the setting of ADPKD in the English literature. A 52-year-old patient with ADPKD and a history of renal transplant presented with a poorly differentiated sarcomatoid neoplasm in his native left polycystic kidney. A recognizable urothelial or renal cell carcinoma differentiation was not identified in the

Renal Leiomyoma in a Female Adult: A Histopathological Case Report.

Renal leiomyomas are rare benign mesenchymal tumors that arise from the smooth muscle cells in the renal capsule, renal pelvis, and the smooth muscles of vessels in the kidney. They are usually found by accident during autopsies or on different imaging modalities made on other occasions. The clinical presentation may include hematuria and abdominal or flank pain, although renal leiomyomas are most frequently asymptomatic. This case concerns a 45-year-old woman with an asymptomatic tumor mass in the left kidney, discovered incidentally on an outpatient CT scan conducted on an unrelated occasion
