BACKGROUND: Facial papules are a feature of several clinical conditions and may present both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
AIM: To describe a grouped papular eruption on the nose and adjoining cheeks that has not been well characterized previously.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A series of consecutive patients with a papular eruption predominantly involving nose and cheeks were evaluated, treated and followed up prospectively at tertiary care centers. Demographic details, clinical features, histopathology and response to treatment were recorded.
RESULTS: There were five men and six women

Noninfectious penile lesions are classified by clinical presentation as papulosquamous (e.g., psoriasis), inflammatory (e.g., lichen sclerosus, lichen nitidus, lichen planus), vascular (e.g., angiokeratomas), or neoplastic (e.g., carcinoma in situ, invasive squamous cell carcinoma). Psoriasis presents as red or salmon-colored plaques with overlying silvery scales, often with extragenital cutaneous lesions. Lichen sclerosus presents as a phimotic, hypopigmented prepuce or glans penis with a cellophane-like texture. Lichen nitidus usually produces asymptomatic pinhead-sized, hypopigmented papule

Family physicians commonly diagnose and manage penile cutaneous lesions. Noninfectious lesions may be classified as inflammatory and papulosquamous (e.g., psoriasis, lichen sclerosus, angiokeratomas, lichen nitidus, lichen planus), or as neoplastic (e.g., carcinoma in situ, invasive squamous cell carcinoma). The clinical presentation and appearance of the lesions guide the diagnosis. Psoriasis presents as red or salmon-colored plaques with overlying scales, often with systemic lesions. Lichen sclerosus presents as a phimotic, hypopigmented prepuce or glans penis with a cellophane-like texture.

Lichen planus (LP) and lichen nitidus (LN) present with varied morphology on the palms and soles. We present four unusual cases of palmoplantar LP and LN manifesting as hyperkeratotic plaques with pits. The diagnosis was confirmed histologically. Subtle features like presence of violaceous border suggests LP and plugs within the pits suggest LN.

Lichenoid dermatoses comprise a significant proportion of dermatologic conditions. The pathophysiologic mechanisms are unclear for many such dermatoses making treatment difficult. Ongoing research into these mechanisms is allowing more directed intervention possible. This article describes some of the recent experiences in the therapy of lichen planus, lichen nitidus, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and graft versus host disease.

Papulosquamous diseases are a heterogeneous group of disorders whose etiology primarily is unknown. The nosology of these disorders is based on a descriptive morphology of clinical lesions characterized by scaly papules and plaques. The major entities in this group include psoriasis, parapsoriasis (including pityriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta), lichen planus, lichen nitidus, lichen striatus, pityriasis rosea, pityriasis rubra pilaris, seborrheic dermatitis, and the Gianotti-Crosti syndrome. Many other conditions may become papulosquamous and should be considered in the differential

Three phases of lichenoid reactions are defined: 1) the primary phase, 2) the established phase; and 3) the senescent phase. Lichen striatus is characterized by a primary pattern that may be apparent in the epidermis, the hair follicles, and rarely the sweat glands and ducts. Focal areas of established lichenoid reaction, that are indistinguishable from lichen planus, are common. They usually are confined to the tips of elongated rete ridges. Established lichenoid patterns are occasionally present in hair follicles and are indistinguishable from those seen in lichen planopilaris. Eccrine hidra

Lichen scrofulosorum is the most uncommon clinicopathologic variant of the tuberculids. Usually, the eruption appears in children and adolescents with strong immune sensitivity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis and consists of tiny follicular papules, closely resembling lichen nitidus. We report a case of lichen scrofulosorum in an adult male with active cervical scrofuloderma who developed lesions of lichen scrofulosorum mimicking clinically lichen planus. Histopathologic study demonstrated granulomas around the hair follicles, although acid-fast bacilli stains, immunohistochemical stain for myco

Immunohistochemically, the presence of lysozyme (LZ) has been detected by the antibody against human LZ in cytoplasm of cells from granulomatous and histiocyte-proliferative skin diseases. To detect LZ in these cells morphologically, I have done electron microscopic observations of the following skin diseases; sarcoidosis, lupus vulgaris, lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (LMDF), tattoo granuloma, lichen nitidus, foreign body granuloma, granuloma annulare, xanthelasma, xanthoma tuberosum, xanthoma planum, juvenile xanthogranuloma, giant cell tumor of tendon sheath, dermatofibroma, malignant f

Lichenoid dermatoses, a group of inflammatory skin conditions with characteristic clinical and histopathologic findings, range from common to rare. Classic lichen planus typically presents as pruritic, polygonal, violaceous flat-topped papules and plaques; many variants in morphology and location also exist. Other lichenoid dermatoses share similar clinical presentations and histopathologic findings. These include lichenoid drug eruption, lichen planus-like keratosis, lichen striatus, lichen nitidus, and keratosis lichenoides chronica. Epidemiologic characteristics vary among each lichenoid di

The presentation of a scaly papule or plaque on the glans penis should suggest more wide-spread papulosquamous disease. Careful examination of the remaining body surface, including the oral mucosa and nails, in almost all cases will yield clues to the correct diagnosis. Papulosquamous disease which may present as a penile lesion include psoriasis, Reiter syndrome, lichen planus, lichen nitidus, seborrheic dermatitis, secondary syphilis, fixed drug eruption, erythroplasia of Queyrat, plasma cell balanitis of Zoon, bowenoid papulosis, and discoid and lichenoid chronic dermatosis of Sulzberger an

The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiologic, clinical, and therapeutic profiles of cases of lichenoid dermatosis in Lomé, together with their outcomes. This retrospective descriptive study reviewed records of patients receiving care for lichenoid dermatosis from January 1997 to December 2016 in the dermatology departments of Lomé. In total, 959 (2.2%) cases of lichenoid dermatoses including 813 (84.8%) of lichen planus and 123 (12.8%) of lichen striatus were recorded. The mean age of the patients was 29.60 +/- 14 years and the sex ratio (M/F) was 0.7. Lichen planus was papular and

We report on a 50-year-old woman having suffered from atypically located Kyrle's disease for 2 years. Especially the palmoplantar areas were affected by keratotic erythematous papules showing the typical histologic picture of Kyrle's disease. Treatment with acitretin (initial dose 30 mg/day) resulted in almost complete remission after 6 months. A concomitant lichen nitidus remained unchanged.

Lichen nitidus is a rare dermatosis, characterized by round, skin-colored papules whose size varies between 1-2 mm and are generally asymptomatic. It does not have predilection for gender or race, affecting mainly children and young adults. Its clinical course is unpredictable, but most cases tend to spontaneously regress years after the onset of the disease. Lesions are often localized, but rare reports of disseminated disease exist.

Lichenoid eruptions are quite common in children and can result from many different origins. In most instances the precise mechanism of disease is not known, although it is usually believed to be immunologic in nature. Certain disorders are common in children, whereas others more often affect the adult population. Lichen striatus, lichen nitidus, Gianotti-Crosti syndrome, and lichen spinulosus are examples of lichenoid lesions that are more common in children than adults. Distinguishing these diseases is necessary for prediction of the course of the eruption and for optimal management. In most

Literature data analysis, providing an exact explanation of the lichen planus pathogenesis, as well as its transition into other rare forms such as Keratosis lichenoides chronica or Graham Lassueur Piccardi Little Syndrome are scant, or totally missing. The chronological course of the disease, known in the literature as lichen planus, varies. Some patients develop Lichen planus or lichen nitidus and there is no logical explanation why. It is also not clear why single patients initially develop ulcerative lesions in the area of the mucosa and only in a few of them these lesions affect the skin.

Traumatic neuromas are tumors resulting from hyperplasia of axons and nerve sheath cells after section or injury to the nervous tissue. We present a case of this tumor, confirmed by anatomopathological examination, in a male patient with history of circumcision. Knowledge of this entity is very important in achieving the differential diagnosis with other lesions that affect the genital area such as condyloma acuminata, bowenoid papulosis, lichen nitidus, sebaceous gland hyperplasia, achrochordon and pearly penile papules.
