Liposarcomas are soft-tissue tumors usually located in the lower extremities and the retroperitoneum. We describe the case of a woman with this neoplasm and a prior familial history of lipoma. Skin, lung and pancreatic metastasis and systemic signs developed quickly. Clinical aspects and the main tools for diagnosing these neoplasms are described.

The authors describe a case of malignant neoplasm of the mediastinum affecting the S.V.C. and the right lung. Radical removal of the neoplasm involved a right pneumonectomy and resection of the S.V.C. Replacement of the latter with a prosthesis in K Dacron double velour was successful--a success which has lasted 5 months to date.

Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS), traditionally used for non-melanoma skin cancers, has been used for some cases of melanoma. There are multiple reports of gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma in bearded dragons (Pogona spp), but other types of alimentary neoplasia are rarely reported. In a retrospective study, we identified 51 cases of neoplasia, including gastric (n = 26), oral (n = 18), intestinal (n = 13), oesophageal (n = 3) and cloacal (n = 2) neoplasms. Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm arising from the salivary glands. It accounts for 10-15% of all salivary gland neoplasms, representing 1-2% of malignant neoplasms of the head and neck. It is characterized by slow growth, diffuse invasion and potential to produce distant metastases, mainly to the lungs and bone. We present a case of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the base of tongue treated with ultrasound guided transcutaneous interstitial photodynamic therapy (PDT) as a salvage treatment.

Between 1964 and 1986, 19 patients underwent resection of both a primary lung cancer and the associated brain metastasis. We report a rare case of 9-month-old girl who presented with a choking episode and was found to have an incidental finding of a lung cyst and iron deficiency anemia leading to the diagnosis of pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) and a jejunal hamartoma. Our patient is the eighth that has been reported with the association of PPB with jejunal hamartoma and the first one in the radiological literature. Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) is classified into pathologically different types. These types are sometimes distinguishable by fetal lung MRI and are usually observed as higher-signal lesions on T2-weighted images than normal lung. We describe a case of unusual CPAM resembling neoplasms, with a lower signal than is found in normal lung. Histopathology showed a large number of mucogenic cells but found no evidence that could explain this feature on fetal MRI. An unusual low-signal mass associated with a pulmonary cyst in fetal lung on MRI may suggest an unusual type 1 CPAM.

The results of an extension of follow up (1976 to 1989) of a cohort of workers employed for at least one year between 1 January 1950 and 31 December 1975 at eight oil refineries in Britain are reported. The fine gauge Chiba needle was evaluated in percutaneous aspiration biopsy in 20 patients with suspected malignant lung neoplasm. Adequate aspirate can be obtained with one biopsy. A confident cytological diagnosis of malignancy was made in 19 out of 20 patients. Most of the patients were elderly. Nine patients developed pneumothoraces which were small and asymptomatic. The needle is easy to handle and very acceptable to patients. Between December 1986 and January 1978, 68 patients with bone metastases were analyzed to evaluate the effect of radiation for the relief of pain. Mammary analog secretory carcinoma is a primary salivary gland neoplasm with histologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular features identical to those of secretory carcinoma of the breast. Similar neoplasms have now been reported to occur in various nonmammary sites including the parotid gland, submandibular gland, sinuses, lip, skin, thyroid gland, and lung. We report, to our knowledge, the first example of a primary vulvar neoplasm with pathologic features identical to secretory carcinoma of the breast and an ETV6-NTRK3 fusion.
