AIM: Lymphocytes are exceptional among somatic cells as these cells can induce telomerase enzyme after antigen stimulation to compensate chromosomal loss during rapid cell division. Activation of telomerase in lymphocytes needs CD28 signal, which simultaneously costimulates T cells during activation. 4-1BB of tumor necrosis factor superfamily also has been shown to costimulate T cells. Herein, we investigated changes in telomerase activity of lymphocytes during longitudinal cultures when T cells costimulated by CD80 or 4-1BB ligand or both molecules in conjunction with anti-CD3 stimulation.

OBJECTIVE: To further define the immunological tissular modifications in premature ovarian failure (POF).
METHOD: The patient was followed up for premature ovarian failure and mild endometriosis associated with serum antiovarian antibodies. A laparoscopic ovarian biopsy was decided on to analyze the tissue and support the onset of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunohistochemistry was performed using monoclonal antibodies directed against T cell membrane markers, as well as activation molecules, to define the composition of the cellular infiltrate and the consequences on ovarian tissue.

We measured telomerase activity (TA) in bone marrow samples from 214 patients with CLL and correlated it with patients' characteristics and survival. Two complementary experimental methods have been used to examine mitogen-induced transmembrane conductances in human B cells using the Daudi cell line as a model for human B cell activation. Activity of short-lived suppressor lymphocytes was studied in 26 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Of these, 14 patients had diverse systemic manifestations: rheumatoid nodules, polyneuropathy. Sjögren's syndrome, and Felty's syndrome. It was established that attenuation of the suppressor activity in rheumatoid arthritis is characteristic of patients with systemic manifestations, who show a high level of circulating immune complexes of rheumatoid factors.
