BACKGROUND: Malignant melanoma (MM) often shows multiple chemo-resistance, leading to poor prognosis of the patients. Therapeutic anti-cancer vaccination may be a feasible way to prolong the survival of patients. BACKGROUND: There is strong evidence to suggest that alopecia areata (AA) is a tissue-specific, T cell-mediated autoimmune disease, which is usually characterized by patchy areas of hair loss on the scalp. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) is a known B-cell autoantigen in patients with autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1 (APS1) associated with the presence of AA. BACKGROUND: Distinguishing benign nodal nevus from metastatic melanoma can be diagnostically challenging, with important clinical consequences. Recently, the loss of epigenetic marker, 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) expression by immunohistochemistry has been found in melanomas and atypical melanocytic neoplasms.

Six cases are reported of an osteoclast-rich tumor of the gastrointestinal tract that should be segregated from GIST. Five of the cases were located in the small bowel and one in the stomach. BACKGROUND: Metastatic melanoma in sentinel lymph nodes is often elusive to detect with morphology alone. Per American Joint Committee on Cancer staging guidelines, a single atypical melanocyte in lymph node qualifies as metastasis, whether identified by morphology or immunohistochemistry, but single cell staining must be convincing. PURPOSE: Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA4) blockade with CP-675,206, a fully human anti-CTLA4 monoclonal antibody, may break peripheral immunologic tolerance leading to effective immune responses to cancer in humans. A phase I trial was conducted to test the safety of CP-675,206.

Melanocytic lesions with lichenoid regression may mimic a benign lichenoid keratosis (BLK) histologically. A total of 336 BLKs were reviewed and deeper sections obtained to determine the frequency of this phenomenon. Two cases (0.6%) showed at least 1 melanocytic nest or junctional multinucleated melanocyte (starburst melanocyte) on deeper sections confirmed by MART-1 immunostaining.
