Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) induced in rats by 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC), phenobarbital (PB) and dexamethasone (Dex) were investigated. The inducers had no effect on hepatocyte yield, viability, attachment or spreading on collagen. 3-MC induced ethoxyresorufin deethylase (EROD). We cloned three novel cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D cDNAs in the Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus). Each clone contained an open reading frame of 1500 nucleotides encoding a protein of 500 amino acids. The inducing effects of 1-nitropyrene (1-NP) on the microsomal cytochrome P-450 system were studied in rats.
