Bioreactivity of divalent bimetallic vanadyl and zinc complexes bis-oxalyldihydrazone ligand against microbial and human cancer series. ctDNA interaction mode.

Two novel divalent bimetallic complexes were constructed from the complexation of O=V4+ and Zn2+ ions (VOL and ZnL), respectively, with diisatin oxalyldihydrazone ligand (H2L). Various spectroscopic tools were used to confirm their chemical structures (FT-IR, NMR, EI-Mass, and electronic spectra), besides, elemental analyses and conductivity features. To estimate the role of divalent metal ions in their coordination compound for developing their bio-reactivity, the free ligand H2Lox, and its complexes (VOL and ZnL) were employed spectroscopic investigations against the growth of some microbial

Nitrogen Sources Reshape Microbial Community Assembly and Interaction Networks to Regulate Straw Decomposition and Carbon Release in Cropland Soils of the North China Plain.

The decomposition of crop residue is indispensable for carbon (C) cycling in agricultural ecosystems, and nitrogen (N) application has a pronounced effect on this by regulating the C/N ratio and microbial growth strategy. This study investigated how different inorganic and organic nitrogen sources interact with soil properties to regulate straw decomposition, nutrient release, microbial community assembly, and microbial interaction networks across typical cropland soils of the North China Plain. Five treatments, i.e., no N addition, urea, calcium nitrate, yeast derivatives, and glutamate, were

Meta-omics profiling of the gut-lung axis illuminates metabolic networks and host-microbial interactions associated with elevated lung elastance in a murine model of obese allergic asthma.

Obesity and associated changes to the gut microbiome worsen airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness in asthma. Obesogenic host-microbial metabolomes have altered production of metabolites that may influence lung function and inflammatory responses in asthma. To understand the interplay of the gut microbiome, metabolism, and host inflammation in obesity-associated asthma, we used a multi-omics approach to profile the gut-lung axis in the setting of allergic airway disease and diet-induced obesity. We evaluated an immunomodulator, nitro-oleic acid (NO2-OA), as a host- and microbial-targeted

High-Throughput Chip Assay for Investigating Escherichia coli Interaction with the Blood-Brain Barrier Using Microbial and Human Proteome Microarrays (Dual-Microarray Technology).

Bacterial meningitis in neonates and infants is an acute lethal disease and occurs in response to microbial exploitation of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), resulting in the intracranial inflammation. Several pathogens, such as Escherichia coli ( E. coli), can cause this devastating disease; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms by which these pathogens exploit the BBB remain incompletely understood. To identify important players on both the pathogen and host sides that govern the E. coli-BBB cell interactions, we took advantage of the E. coli and human proteome microarrays (i.e., HuProt)

Investigation of the intervention mechanism of total flavonoids of Polygonum divaricatum L. on MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease mice based on the interaction between metabolomics and gut microbial diversity.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder, and much evidence has shown that the diversity of gut flora is related to its pathogenesis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism of action of total flavonoids of Polygonum divaricatum L. (TFP) on PD treatment from the perspective of gut microbiology and metabolomics. In this study, the MPTP-induced mouse model was used to evaluate the therapeutic potential of TFP in PD. The main components of TFP were quantified by the LC-MS/MS technique. Following TFP treatment, we evaluated motor function in PD mic

Postbiotics from Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation stabilize rumen solids microbiota and promote microbial network interactions and diversity of hub taxa during grain-based subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) challenges in lactating dairy cows.

BACKGROUND: High-yielding dairy cows are commonly fed high-grain rations. However, this can cause subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA), a metabolic disorder in dairy cows that is usually accompanied by dysbiosis of the rumen microbiome. Postbiotics that contain functional metabolites provide a competitive niche for influential members of the rumen microbiome, may stabilize and promote their populations, and, therefore, may attenuate the adverse effects of SARA. METHODS: This study used a total of 32 rumen-cannulated lactating dairy cows, which were randomly assigned into four treatments: no SCFP

Profiling of the Conjunctival Bacterial Microbiota Reveals the Feasibility of Utilizing a Microbiome-Based Machine Learning Model to Differentially Diagnose Microbial Keratitis and the Core Components of the Conjunctival Bacterial Interaction Network.

Both healthy and diseased human ocular surfaces possess their own microbiota. If allowed, opportunistic pathogens within the ocular microbiota may cause microbial keratitis (MK). However, the nonpathogenic component of the ocular microbiota has been proven to undermine the performance of culture, the gold standard of the etiological diagnosis for MK. As the conjunctival bacterial microbiota generates unique alterations with various oculopathies, this study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of distinguishing MK using machine learning based on the characteristics of the conjunctival bacterial mi

Gut-microbiota-microglia-brain interactions in Alzheimer's disease: knowledge-based, multi-dimensional characterization.

BACKGROUND: Interactions between the gut microbiota, microglia, and aging may modulate Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis but the precise nature of such interactions is not known. METHODS: We developed an integrated multi-dimensional, knowledge-driven, systems approach to identify interactions among microbial metabolites, microglia, and AD. Publicly available datasets were repurposed to create a multi-dimensional knowledge-driven pipeline consisting of an integrated network of microbial metabolite-gene-pathway-phenotype (MGPPN) consisting of 34,509 nodes (216 microbial metabolites, 22,982

Enhanced Endophytic Colonization of Flavobacterium Promotes Plant Resistance to Fusarium Wilt.

Microbial taxa in the soil microbiome with specific ecological functions play crucial roles in plant health. Flavobacterium is found closely associated with physiological functions that promote plant growth and enhance disease resistance. While cooperative interactions mediated by metabolite exchange can stabilize microbial consortia, the specific interactions between these consortia and plants remain understudied, particularly regarding their application in plant disease control. Here, we isolate a natural microbial consortium comprising Achromobacter, Flavobacterium, and Bacillus strains fro

Mechanisms of dental plaque formation.

Much effort has been placed on elucidating the diverse mechanisms of microbial adhesion to tooth surfaces. Both specific and non-specific types of adhesion have been envisaged. Pioneer colonizers represent a selected part of the oral microflora, and it has been assumed that specific adhesin-receptor interactions between the microbial surface and the pellicle account for this specificity. Whereas microbial adhesion to tooth surfaces is a general prerequisite for initiation of plaque formation, microbial multiplication is probably the dominant feature in the build-up of dental plaque. Local envi

The impact of the Fungus-Host-Microbiota interplay upon Candida albicans infections: current knowledge and new perspectives.

Candida albicans is a major fungal pathogen of humans. It exists as a commensal in the oral cavity, gut or genital tract of most individuals, constrained by the local microbiota, epithelial barriers and immune defences. Their perturbation can lead to fungal outgrowth and the development of mucosal infections such as oropharyngeal or vulvovaginal candidiasis, and patients with compromised immunity are susceptible to life-threatening systemic infections. The importance of the interplay between fungus, host and microbiota in driving the transition from C. albicans commensalism to pathogenicity is

A review of methods for the inference and experimental confirmation of microbial association networks in cheese.

Interactions among microorganisms deeply affect the dynamics of cheese microbial communities and, as a consequence, multiple aspects of cheese quality, from the production of metabolites affecting the taste, aroma and flavour, to body, texture and colour. Understanding and exploiting interactions among beneficial or detrimental microorganisms is therefore key to managing cheese quality. This is true for the simplest systems (fresh cheeses produced from pasteurized milk using defined starters) and the more so for complex, dynamic systems, like surface ripened cheese produced from raw milk, in w

Investigating GERMs: how genotype, environment, and rhizosphere microbiome interactions underlie heat response in maize and sorghum.

Plant responses to heat stress emerge from interactions among host genotype, environment, and the rhizosphere microbiome, yet most studies examine these components in isolation. We applied the Genotype × Environment × Rhizosphere Microbiomes (GERMs) framework to test how host-microbe coordination contributes to heat tolerance in cereal crops Zea mays and Sorghum bicolor. We analyzed maize and sorghum grown under optimal and heat-stressed conditions across contrasting soil treatments using integrated plant-microbial metatranscriptomics. Host and microbial gene expression profiles were jointly a

Integrative microbiomics in bronchiectasis exacerbations.

Bronchiectasis, a progressive chronic airway disease, is characterized by microbial colonization and infection. We present an approach to the multi-biome that integrates bacterial, viral and fungal communities in bronchiectasis through weighted similarity network fusion ( https://integrative-microbiomics.ntu.edu.sg ). Patients at greatest risk of exacerbation have less complex microbial co-occurrence networks, reduced diversity and a higher degree of antagonistic interactions in their airway microbiome. Furthermore, longitudinal interactome dynamics reveals microbial antagonism during exacerba

MIMEco: multi-objective metabolic modeling to predict and explain pairwise interactions.

UNLABELLED: Genome-scale metabolic models provide a mechanistic framework for quantitatively exploring an organism's physiology and its interactions with the environment. However, their use in microbial community modeling has been limited since it usually relies on community-wide objective functions or the integration of community abundance data. Nevertheless, predicting microbial interactions is crucial for understanding ecosystem dynamics and thus requires dedicated methods. Here, we introduce Metabolic Interaction Modeling in Ecosystems (MIMEco), an open-source Python package that predicts
