Multimodal intervention in 8- to 13-year-old French dyslexic readers: Study protocol for a randomized multicenter controlled crossover trial.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dyslexia, a specific and long-lasting learning disorder that prevents children from becoming efficient and fluent readers, has a severe impact on academic learning and behavior and may compromise professional and social development. Most remediation studies are based on the explicit or implicit assumption that dyslexia results from a single cause related to either impaired phonological or visual-attentional processing or impaired cross-modal integration. Yet, recent studies show that dyslexia is multifactorial and that many dyslexics have underlying deficits in severa

Study protocol: the TRAnsplant BIOpsies (TRABIO) study - a prospective, observational, multicentre cohort study to assess the treatment of kidney graft rejections.

INTRODUCTION: Despite continued efforts, long-term outcomes of kidney transplantation remain unsatisfactory. Kidney graft rejections are independent risk factors for graft failure. At the participating centres of the TRAnsplant BIOpsies study group, a common therapeutic standard has previously been defined for the treatment of graft rejections. The outcomes of this strategy will be assessed in a prospective, observational cohort study. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A total of 800 kidney transplantation patients will be enrolled who undergo a graft biopsy because of deteriorating kidney function. Pati

Levosimendan in venoarterial ECMO weaning. Rational and design of a randomized double blind multicentre trial.

AIMS: Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is increasingly being used in circulatory failure. The main indications are cardiogenic shock, post-cardiotomy cardiac failure, and refractory cardiac arrest. However, VA-ECMO weaning is particularly challenging, and weaning failure is reported to be as high as 50%, with increased related mortality. Levosimendan is a novel long acting effect inodilator used in cardiogenic shock and terminal heart failure decompensation. Levosimendan use in VA-ECMO patients seems to reduce weaning failure regardless of the initial aetiology and to

[Vitamin A in canine and feline corneal defects - Literature search reveals weak evidence supporting healing effect].

Animals with corneal injuries are frequently presented in the veterinary practice. Vitamin A has long been used in the treatment of corneal ulceration to promote corneal wound healing. However, what is the evidence basis for this approach? Is it supported by the existing literature? In order to shed light on this topic, we searched the literature for relevant articles. Only weak evidence for a clinically relevant, beneficial effect of vitamin A and its derivatives on the healing of corneal defects in dogs and cats was found in 12 articles. Studies to date have focused almost exclusively on the

Agile monitoring dashboard for clinical research studies.

BACKGROUND: Clinical trial success hinges on efficient participant recruitment and retention. However, slow accrual and attrition frequently hinder progress. To address these challenges, a novel dashboard tool with control charts has been developed to provide investigators on the multi-site study of Delirium and Neuropsychological Recovery among Emergency General Surgery Survivors (DANE study) with timely information to improve trial recruitment. METHODS: A quality monitoring Excel dashboard with control chart functionality developed by the principal investigator's (PI) group and implemented

The Use of Nano-Hydroxyapatite (NH) for Socket Preservation: Communication of an Upcoming Multicenter Study with the Presentation of a Pilot Case Report.

Background and Objectives: The use of biomaterials in dentistry is extremely common. From a commercial perspective, different types of osteoconductive and osteoinductive biomaterials are available to clinicians. In the field of osteoconductive materials, clinicians have biomaterials made of heterologous bones at their disposal, including biomaterials of bovine, porcine, and equine origins, and biomaterials of natural origin, such as corals and hydroxyapatites. In recent years, it has become possible to synthesize nano-Ha and produce scaffolds using digital information. Although a large variety

Mosunetuzumab and lymphoma: latest updates from 2022 ASH annual meeting.

Bispecific antibodies are emerging as a promising new immunotherapy modality and are actively being evaluated in clinical trials for patients with lymphoma. As the first BsAb to receive regulatory approval for lymphoma, mosunetuzumab, an antiCD20/anti-CD3 BsAb, is an exciting new option for patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) follicular lymphoma. The approval was based on results from an international, multicenter, phase 2 trial in patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) follicular lymphoma following at least 2 prior lines of systemic therapy. Mosunetuzumab demonstrated remarkable ef

Dissecting the clinical heterogeneity of early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD) is a rare but particularly devastating form of AD. Though notable for its high degree of clinical heterogeneity, EOAD is defined by the same neuropathological hallmarks underlying the more common, late-onset form of AD. In this review, we describe the various clinical syndromes associated with EOAD, including the typical amnestic phenotype as well as atypical variants affecting visuospatial, language, executive, behavioral, and motor functions. We go on to highlight advances in fluid biomarker research and describe how molecular, structural, and functiona

Clinical and Epidemiologic Characteristics and Therapeutic Management of Patients with Vibrio Infections, Bay of Biscay, France, 2001-2019.

Noncholera vibriosis is a rare, opportunistic bacterial infection caused by Vibrio spp. other than V. cholerae O1/O139 and diagnosed mainly during the hot summer months in patients after seaside activities. Detailed knowledge of circulating pathogenic strains and heterogeneities in infection outcomes and disease dynamics may help in patient management. We conducted a multicenter case-series study documenting Vibrio infections in 67 patients from 8 hospitals in the Bay of Biscay, France, over a 19-year period. Infections were mainly caused by V. alginolyticus (34%), V. parahaemolyticus (30%), n

Collaborative hand surgery clinical research without sharing individual patient data; proof of principle study.

High-quality research in hand surgery is increasingly important. A vital component is national and international multicenter collaborative research because of better generalizability and larger sample sizes. However, sharing patient data between centers can be hampered by regulations and privacy issues or reluctance to share patient data. Therefore, in this paper, we illustrate an approach for collaborative clinical research without sharing patient data while obtaining similar outcomes. To illustrate that this collaborative clinical research approach without sharing patient data leads to simil

Promise of Physiological Profiling to Prevent Stroke in People of African Ancestry: Prototyping Ghana.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Worldwide, compared to other racial/ethnic groups, individuals of African ancestry have an excessively higher burden of hypertension-related morbidities, especially stroke. Identifying modifiable biological targets that contribute to these disparities could improve global stroke outcomes. In this scoping review, we discuss how pathological perturbations in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone pathways could be harnessed via physiological profiling for the purposes of improving blood pressure control for stroke prevention among people of African ancestry. RECENT FINDINGS: Trans

Alternatives in the treatment of memory loss in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

The pathophysiology, symptomatology, and treatment of memory loss in patients with Alzheimer's disease are described. Alzheimer's disease is characterized by cerebral cortical atrophy, neuronal loss, neurofibrillary tangles, and neuritic plaques. The primary neuropharmacologic defect involves reduced activity of the enzyme choline acetyltransferase, causing reduced synthesis of acetylcholine (ACh). Other neurotransmitters known to be compromised in patients with Alzheimer's disease include norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, and somatostatin. Initially components of short-term memory and imme
