Farm-related trauma occurs in more than 25,000 children per year with almost 300 patients dying from these preventable injuries. The incidence of associated farm-machinery injuries and fatalities is increasing at an alarming rate with the majority occurring in young boys during the summer months. We report on the treatment of a 39 year old patient who suffered from subtotal amputation of the middle foot area after fall from tall height. He was treated by an arthrodesis between ventral tibia and distal Chopart-joint which was carried out as late-primary care. Therefore calcaneus and talus were totally and os cuboideum and os scaphoideum were partially removed. This form of arthrodesis is a rare indication. AIM: To identify the social health factors impacting workers' longer recovery times affected by occupational accidents.
METHODS: A qualitative systematic review of the academic literature in English was carried out. A total of 4,409 articles were identified, applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 22 articles were selected.
RESULTS: The aging of the working population is a relevant issue for occupational health; after 45 years of age, workers require significantly longer recovery after an occupational accident.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral neuropathy affects about 50% of the diabetic population. The manifestations range from pain, numbness, paresthesia and ulceration in the extremities and it is the major cause of non-traumatic amputations. Currently there is no effective treatment for peripheral neuropathy. With the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes and associated complications reaching epidemic levels, there is a critical need for finding a treatment to preserve nerve function.
