Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare condition characterized by the presence of multiple angiomatic lesions of the skin. These are associated with similar lesions in other organs, namely in the gastrointestinal tract, causing anemia through chronic bleeding. We describe the case of a 72-year-old woman with microcytic anemia. A barium study revealed irregular lacunae in the distal esophagus. A subsequent endoscopy showed blue nodular lesions similar to angiomas of the esophagus and stomach fundus. Endosonography confirmed its angiomatic nature. Exploration of other organs, using magnetic r

Carney complex, a familial multitumoral syndrome, comprises spotty skin pigmentation (lentigines and blue nevi), myxomas (heart, skin, and breast), endocrine tumors (adrenal cortex, pituitary, testis, and thyroid), and schwannomas. The skin pigmentary abnormality included two unusual conditions, epithelioid blue nevus and psammomatous melanotic schwannoma. The former tumor occurred on the extremities and trunk, less frequently on the head and neck; was multiple; and did not recur or metastasize. Clinically, it was pigmented, domed, and small (< 1 cm). Microscopically, it displayed two types of

This is a case report and review of the literature on the blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome. The clinical features of the syndrome are discussed, with emphasis on chronic gastrointestinal bleeding and resulting anemia. A new therapeutic modality, colonoscopy with laser photocoagulation, is recommended as a safe, effective, and less invasive method of controlling bleeding from colonic hemangiomas than surgical resection and repeated transfusions. This technique is less helpful for patients with prominent involvement of the small intestine.

OBJECTIVES: Cerebriform intradermal nevus and giant congenital blue nevi are rarely reported melanocytic nevi with clinical and histopathologic similarities. Both are known to produce cutis verticis gyrata. We report a significantly large occipital scalp congenital blue nevus with secondary cutis verticis gyrata. The aim of this report is to increase clinical awareness of this entity, highlight histopathologic and mutational features of cerebriform intradermal nevi and giant congenital blue nevi, and stress the importance of clinicopathologic correlation for diagnosis.
METHODS: Case report an

Cutaneous melanomas may demonstrate a variety of histopathological features and genetic abnormalities. Melanomas that arise in the setting of blue nevi, also known as "malignant blue nevus" or melanoma ex blue nevus (MBN), share a similar histopathological and mutational profile with uveal melanoma. Most uveal melanomas show characteristic GNA11 or GNAQ mutations; additional BAP1 mutation or loss is associated with the highest risk of metastasis and worst prognosis. However, the significance of BAP1 loss in melanomas ex blue nevus remains unclear. We present a case of MBN arising from the scal

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare vascular disorder causing chronic iron-deficiency anemia from gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. We described the case of a 17-year-old Latin American patient with refractory anemia, cutaneous papules, and blue nevi. Endoscopic evaluations identified multiple bleeding lesions through the GI tract. Hot snare resection and clip placement achieved significant clinical improvement and stabilized hemoglobin levels. This case underscores the critical role of video capsule endoscopy and highlights the need for heightened awareness and diagnostic expertis

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare systemic vascular disorder characterized by multifocal venous malformations (VMs). Little is known about the perinatal management of pregnant women with BRBNS owing to the limited number of reported cases. We present the case of a 36-year-old primigravida with BRBNS who underwent an uneventful cesarean section under spinal anesthesia for breech presentation. A thorough systemic examination revealed VMs in various organs, including the skin, conjunctiva, larynx, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and vulva. Prior to spinal anesthesia, careful examin

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disease that presents as cutaneous and extra-cutaneous vascular malformations, most commonly affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We report a case of adult onset BRBNS in an African American male with vascular lesions isolated to the jejunum without any cutaneous manifestations. Physicians should recognize that BRBNS can present without skin involvement and may have complications from visceral organ involvement. Treatment of BRBNS is mainly symptomatic and aims at preserving the GI tract as much as possible. BRBNS may also present as dela

BACKGROUND: Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare vascular malformation syndrome with unclear etiopathogenesis and noncurative treatments. It is characterized by multiple vascular malformations of the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and other visceral organs. The most common symptoms are intermittent gastrointestinal bleeding and secondary iron deficiency anemia, thus requiring repeated blood transfusions and hospitalizations. It is easily missed and misdiagnosed, and there is no specific treatment.
CASE SUMMARY: We report a case of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome combined with disseminated

Blue nevus is a benign melanocytic lesion that appears as a blue or dark mole due to the presence of melanin deep within the skin. In rare cases melanoma can arise from this association with blue nevus, and entity termed blue nevus melanoma (BNM). BNM most frequently occurs on the scalp and is an aggressive subtype of melanoma which has the tendency to metastasize. Similar to acral melanoma, BNM has a distinct genetic profile, is less linked to sun exposure, and has an equal incidence in patients of European and non-European ancestry. It is also less responsive to immunotherapy. This case repo

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) also called Bean's syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by multiple cutaneous venous malformations in association with visceral lesions, most commonly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. We report here, a 21-year-old woman patient, who presented with unilateral, blaschkoid distribution of cutaneous venous malformations along with blue rubber bleb nevus and recurrent episodes of hematochezia due to vascular lesions in the sigmoid colon; likely to be a case of BRBNS. The unusual unilateral, blaschkoid distribution of BRBNS prompted this present repo

Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome is a rare, primarily sporadic condition characterized by vascular lesions principally involving the skin and gastrointestinal tract. Although considered a venous malformation, telangiectatic capillaries, arteriovenous malformations, and lymphangiomas have been reported, but a lymphangiomatosis-like growth pattern has not been described. This case of Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome demonstrated a labyrinth of variably sized vascular spaces lined by an attenuated layer of bland endothelial cells, dissecting uterine tissues and sequestering remaining myometrium. Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare venous malformation disorder causing recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding and severe anemia. We report three children illustrating endoscopic, surgical, and medical management. All presented with melena and transfusion-requiring anemia. Case 1 developed gastric perforation after endoscopic band ligation and underwent emergency primary repair with bowel-preserving excision of accessible lesions, followed by recovery. Case 2 had more than 100 gastrointestinal lesions and underwent lesion-directed wedge resections, achieving transfusion independenc

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare disorder characterized by multiple vascular malformations of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, skin and less frequently in solid organs. An 85-year-old male was admitted to the ER due to melena and was under apixaban anticoagulation. Dorsal hemangiomas were identified on physical examination. On admission, he had hemoglobin levels of 7.6g/dl, esophagogastroduodenoscopy was negative and colonoscopy revealed blood clots in all segments, including the terminal ileum. Capsule endoscopy revealed multiple polypoid vinaceous-colored formations in the p

A 27-year-old white woman presented with enophthalmos in the right eye. The visual acuity was 20/20 in both eyes. External examination showed 7 mm of enophthalmos of the right eye with deepened superior palpebral sulcus compared with the left eye. After Valsalva maneuver, the right eye became 4-mm exophthalmic compared with the left eye. Extraocular movements were full. There was no palpable orbital mass or diplopia. MRI showed diffuse enhancing intraconal orbital and nasopharyngeal masses consistent with venous malformations in the right orbit. Systemic evaluation revealed bluish vascular les

We describe a 66-year-old black male who first presented with subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) and was later found to have malignant melanoma adjacent to a common blue nevus. The melanoma was located on the left buttock and in several left inguinal lymph nodes. Following complete resection and lymph node dissection the patient developed widespread leukoderma. To our knowledge this is the first report of malignant melanoma arising in a common blue nevus. The literature on SCLE and leukoderma in the setting of melanoma is reviewed.

A 76-year-old woman on anticoagulation for atrial fibrillation presented with melaena. Her medical history included previous jejunal resection, aortic aneurysm repair, and cervical cancer in remission. Initial upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and complete colonoscopy showed no source of bleeding. Despite discontinuation of anticoagulation, she developed recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding with severe transfusion-dependent anaemia. Capsule endoscopy demonstrated bluish submucosal vascular lesions in the jejunum, suggestive of Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS), a diagnosis further supporte
