A case of common blue nevus of the uterine cervix in a 32-year-old woman is reported. This lesion was incidentally discovered in a hysterectomy performed for leiomyomas; in addition, a right ovarian benign serous cyst was found. The common blue nevus was restricted to the stroma of the endocervix and was characterized by clusters of dendritic melanocytes with benign histologic features. These cells were positive for melanin, S100, and HMB45. Electron microscopy disclosed melanosomes and premelanosomes. The differential diagnosis with other pigmented lesions, particularly with malignant melanom

Becker's nevus (BN) is one of the cutaneous hamartomatous lesions that often presents as an acquired, single unilateral pigmented hairy patch on the upper trunk, scapular region, or upper arm. Hereby we introduce a 13-year-old girl with the unusual manifestation of BN with multiple acquired, pigmented hairy patches for six months without any musculoskeletal or developmental involvements. After carefully reviewing the literature, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first case in this regard in Iran.

Nevus spilus is a term in the literature used for a benign pigmented cutaneous lesion, occurring shortly after birth or in the early stages of infancy. The lesion itself is very distinguishable in most cases with numerous small papules or macules on a "café au lait" background pigmentation. It can be seen on different parts of the body with predominance in the areas of the extremities. Although benign, in some cases malignant transformation can occur. Malignant melanoma arising within a nevus spilus lesion is not so unlikely anymore. We report a 36-year-old female patient with a thin cutaneous

BACKGROUND: Clark nevi (atypical melanocytic nevi) can be considered as risk markers and potential precursors of melanoma. The authors report on the morphologic changes of an atypical nevus by dermoscopic follow-up examination over a 7-year period.
CASE REPORT: A 43-year-old man had a brown macule on his back, sized 5 mm, with an irregular shape, clinically and dermoscopically diagnosed as an equivocal melanocytic lesion. Dermoscopically during the initial examination, a predominant reticular pattern with peripheral eccentric hyperpigmentation in the lower portion of the lesion could be seen.

Becker nevus syndrome refers to a rare disorder comprising the typical pigmented lesion and its associated developmental abnormalities. Becker nevus itself is typically localized on the upper trunk, scapular or upper arm unilaterally; however, it can occasionally occur as multiple or bilateral lesions on any parts of the body. In this report, a rare case of multiple Becker nevi arranged in a unique checkerboard-like pattern is presented. More uniquely, the associated abnormalities found in this patient, breast hypoplasia and leg lipodystrophy, seem to be regionally correlated with the nevi. In

The pigmentation is the physiological or pathological accumulation of a pigment in a tissue. Physiological pigmentation in gingiva which is a part of masticatory mucous membranes depends on the activity of the melanocytes. These non keratinocytic cells include the melanosoma where an endogenous pigment, the melanin, is synthesized. Quantitative or qualitative disruption of mucous pigmentation leads to the apparition of pigmented lesions. When melanocytes are directly concerned, the lesions can be of intrinsic origin, such as oral mucosa melanoma, the nevus, pigmented oral lichen planus etc. Pi

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To review the prevalence, clinical features, imaging findings, cytogenetics, and risks and outcomes of choroidal nevus.
RECENT FINDINGS: Choroidal nevus is a benign melanocytic tumor, often discovered incidentally on ophthalmic examination. This lesion is generally well circumscribed and pigmented. The prevalence of choroidal nevus in postequatorial region in United States adults (≥40 years old) is approximately 5%. Choroidal nevus is associated with higher lifetime unopposed estrogen and greater BMI. In population-based evaluation, the mean nevus basal dimension is approxi

The follicular variant of Becker's nevus is an under-reported entity. We present the rare occurrence of follicular Becker's nevus in 7 patients, confirmed through dermoscopy and histopathological examination. Dermoscopy shows perifollicular hypopigmentation surrounded by a well-defined net-like pigmentation corresponding clinically to the presence of folliculocentric macules. Histology shows prominent basal and suprabasal melanization surrounding the follicle, corresponding to well-defined net-like pigmentation seen on dermoscopy. However, the melanization does not extend along the entire leng

BACKGROUND: Becker's nevus is a common skin disorder. Lasers and light instruments are the major modalities for the treatment of Becker's nevus, but the outcomes were mixed.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of the intense pulsed light for Becker's nevus in a large Chinese cohort.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of the intense pulsed light for Becker's nevus in a single center.
RESULTS: A total of 45 patients, including 26 males and 19 females (male to female ratio = 1.4), aged 5-42 years, were included in this analysis. Twenty-seven patients (60%) were with hypertrichos

A 58-year-old man with clinical diagnosis of phacomatosis pigmentovascularis (PPV) experienced tinnitus and progressive hearing loss due to a jugular foramen tumor.Attached to the tumor capsule, were several pigmented spots. Pathological examination revealed a tumor composed by two different tissues, namely a Schwannoma grade I associated with a leptomeningeal blue nevus. The neuropathological aspects of this unusual association are discussed. The association of PPV with a pigmented skull base tumor has not been described to date and illustrates the importance of systemic examination in PPV.

Phacomatosis pigmentokeratotica (PPK) is a rare epidermal nevus (EN) syndrome, featured by co-occurrence of speckled lentiginous nevus (SLN) and nevus sebaceous (NS). The underlying mechanism has not been clarified. Pathogenic mutations in HRAS, KRAS and BRAF gene are recently recognized as the genetic cause of PPK. Here we present a case of Chinese PPK with a mosaic mutation in HRAS gene. Physical examination of the 4-year-old male proband showed NS locating on the scalp, with EN and SLN on trunk and extremities. Except congenital fundus vascular tortuosity, no evidence of extracutaneous abno

The divided or kissing nevus is an unusual congenital melanocytic nevus. By definition, these nevi appear on skin that separates during embryological development. These lesions have been reported on the eyelids, fingers, and rarely the penis. We describe an 18 year old uncircumcised male who presented with an asymptomatic darkly pigmented patch on the glans penis. He reported that the lesion had appeared recently and was enlarging. Physical examination revealed a second symmetric lesion on the adjacent foreskin. Punch biopsy of the lesion on the glans penis showed abundant intradermal melanocy

BACKGROUND: Malignant cellular blue nevus (MCBN) is a rare entity due to the malignant transformation of a preexisting cellular blue nevus (CBN).
OBJECTIVE AND METHODS: The clinical and pathologic features of 6 patients with MCBN are described.
RESULTS: Three tumors were located on the scalp, 2 on the trunk and 1 on the neck. The lesions, present from birth or childhood, had enlarged rapidly in the last months before excision. Histologically, there was a dermal proliferation of spindle and epithelioid atypical melanocytic cells. Some of them were heavily pigmented. Numerous atypical mitoses

PURPOSE: To describe the multimodal imaging findings of extensive choroidal caverns within a choroidal nevus in an eye with pachychoroid spectrum disease.
METHODS: A 69-year-old woman was referred with a known history of branch retinal vein occlusion in the right eye and choroidal nevus in the left eye. Fundus examination of both eyes revealed subretinal yellow deposits, suggestive of pachydrusen. Retinal venous collaterals were noted in the temporal macular of the right eye. A lightly pigmented choroidal lesion with nearly confluent overlying drusen and retinal pigment epithelial alterations

Nevus depigmentosus is a congenital hypomelanotic condition for which no effective treatments are available. The hypopigmentation is permanent and enlarges in proportion with growth in the person. Here, I report a patient of nevus depigmentosus on whom we performed suction blister grafting and the resultant pigmentation was satisfactory even at a follow-up after 10 years.

Twenty-two cases of cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenita were evaluated during an 8-year period. All but two patients were examined in the first year of life; 14 of the 22 (64%) were female infants. Four patients had focal cutaneous atrophy associated with the reticulated vascular pattern, and eight had ulcerations of involved skin. Six (27%) had additional anomalies. Of these, three patients had a nevus flammeus, and one had congenital generalized fibromatosis and hemiatrophy. Two of the infants had glaucoma; one also had a facial nevus flammeus and the other had cutis marmorata telangie

A 20-year-old female presented with raised skin lesions all over the body since birth. Clinical examination revealed multiple pigmented macules and hyperkeratotic papules seen along Blaschko's lines over the face, neck, trunk and both lower limbs. Histopathological examination revealed hyperkeratosis with moderated acanthosis and uniform pigmentation over basal zone. Systemic examination was found to be normal. A diagnosis of systematised epidermal nevus in the absence of epidermal nevus syndrome was diagnosed and the patient was asked to undergo carbon dioxide laser mediated destruction of th

Plaque-type blue nevus (PTBN) is a rare variant of blue nevus that mostly involves the breast, head, neck, trunk, and, rarely, the hand and palm. In this study, we report a rare case of congenital PTBN involving the right palm since birth. A 10-year-old girl presented to our department with plaque in her right palm accompanied by a tingling sensation for 1 month. Histochemical analysis indicated a heavily pigmented melanocyte proliferation in the dermis, subcutis, and fascia. The patient was diagnosed with congenital PTBN and underwent surgical excision. No recurrence was observed during a 5-y

The diagnosis and management of a 3-day-old infant with an exophytic pigmented growth on her back and chest are discussed. At 3 days of age, the child underwent a complete surgical excision of this lesion with immediate coverage by partial-thickness skin grafts. Pathologically, the lesion proved to be a thoracolumbar congenital melanocytic nevus with multiple focal areas of malignant melanoma. The child is now 3 years past surgery and shows no evidence of recurrence or distant metastases. The importance of this case lies in the presence of overt malignant melanoma at birth within a giant conge

We report a case of a 1-year 7-month-old boy who had resection of a divided nevus and skin grafting that resulted in the disappearance of residual nevi, graying of eyelashes, and depigmentation at the donor site of the skin graft and around the lips. The nevus partially remained on the lid margins, although resected as much as possible from the upper and lower eyelids. Nevus cell nevus was the histopathological diagnosis of the resected lesion. Approximately 3 years after surgery, the pigmentation of the nevus remaining on the lid margins started to regress, and the eyelashes at the same sites
